Farmers checkoff dollars are put towards funding research to build better farm programs for Illinois corn growers. This week, University of Illinois ag economist Gary Schnitkey highlights research being done to improve crop insurance, farm programs and on-farm conservation and how farmers and organizations utilize the research to lobby for changes in DC.

To Wyatt agriculture means helping the world. Every job is related to agriculture either directly or indirectly and there would not be anything without it. He is involved in FFA, DARE, class treasurer, football, and church. Once Wyatt graduates, he plans to attend Southwest Technical college and major in agri-business. After college he plans to come back to his family dairy farm.

His favorite part about high school sports is being able to hang out with his friends while doing what he loves most. He has learned many life skills that will be with him forever. To Will agriculture means a lot and has opened his eyes to a whole new world. There is so much work that goes unnoticed by others outside of the agriculture world such as the amount of work that goes into providing for the world. Will is involved in football, wrestling, baseball, the school musical, and 4-H. Once he graduates Will wants to become a diesel mechanic or welder as well as working on the farm.

Cally Faulhaber was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the court. Her favorite part about high school sports is getting to compete and meeting new people. Agriculture is a huge part of Cally’s life. Growing up on a farm has helped her to view the world differently, allowing her to see the hard work that provides for our world. Agriculture has also helped her in deciding what she wants to do after she graduates. Cally is involved in track, basketball, volleyball, Student Council, FCCLA, Oral Interp, National Honor Society, Yearbook, and All School Play. Once she graduates Cally plans to go to college to pursue a degree in agricultural education.

His favorite part of high school sports is the competition they provide as well as the friendships and life lessons that come out of them. To Austin, agriculture means having a role in providing for the world. He is involved in FFA and basketball. Once Austin graduates, he plans to attend a 4-year university to pursue a degree in agriculture education.

Her favorite past about high school sports is being able to meet new people from neighboring schools and building relationships with them. She also loves playing and growing as a player with her teammates alongside her. To Samantha, agriculture is the gift that keeps on giving. Agriculture has provided her and many other people in her community with opportunities and has taught her a multitude of life lessons, which formed her into who she is today.

Chisum Schmiedeberg was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his efforts on and off the field. His favorite part about high school sports is getting to play with his friends and building bonds and memories that will last a lifetime. To Chisum, agriculture and farming are more than just jobs, they are a lifestyle. They are not easy jobs either, but jobs that require a lot of hard work and dedication. Chisum is involved in Football, basketball, baseball, trap shooting, student council, and 4-H. As of right now Chisum is not sure what he wants to do after high school, but he is excited for what the future holds.

Reagan Koester was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the field. Her favorite part about high school sports Is the family atmosphere that is created with her team, coaches and supporters. To Reagan agriculture is all about opportunity. Growing up on a farm has given her a hard work ethic, and one thing that was engraved into her head is that “winners never sleep in.” Being involved in different agricultural organizations such as FFA and 4H have taught her, public speaking skills, leadership skills and organizational skills. Reagan is her FFA president, 4-H president, Business Professionals of America president, class vice president and Student Council president. She is a part of speech and debate, FCA, NPTV, NHS, math bowl, Big Brother's Big Sister’s, soccer, track, United Way, youth group, young life, Indiana State Fair, and many service projects. Once Reagan graduates, she plans to attend Purdue University studying agricultural business with a concentration in finance with plans to go to law school to obtain a law degree in agricultural law, estate planning, elder law, and corporate law.

Allie Younce was nominated as Beck’s Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the court. Her favorite part about high school sports is the bond formed between teammates and coaches as well as the competitive atmosphere they create. Sports helped her build her confidence both physically and mentally and they have taught her how to better respond to conflict. To Allie agriculture is the foundation of community and it’s specifically important to her community. Agriculture is important in providing the world with its necessities as well as providing opportunity and teaching life lessons. Allie is involved in volleyball, basketball, Student Council, class president, National Honor Society, FCA, cheer block, church youth group, community food drives, praise and worship team, VBS volunteer, and has participated in various mission trips. Once Allie graduates, she plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) in Marion, Indiana to pursue a bachelor's degree majoring in nursing and minoring in ministry. It would be a joy for Allie to utilize her nursing career to pursue medical evangelism in other countries. Later in her career she may pursue a practitioner's degree. She is determined to impact the lives of others and serve them!
