· This week in the markets – Live cash cattle down $1.50 while feeder cattle markets were anywhere from $2 to $7 higher. June live cattle futures were up $2.70 this week and August feeders ended the day $6.40 this week. Choice box beef is down $31 this week. Barrow and gilt prices fell another $4 this week. June lean hog futures were down $2.40 this week. Pork cutout value fell $8.30 this week, drug lower by loins and ribs.
· Slaughter – Estimated weekly slaughter in this holiday shortened week for cattle was 5.6 percent lower than last week and hog slaughter was down 8 percent. Cattle still trails year-ago levels by 11 percent and hogs by nearly 8 percent.
