• This week in the markets – Cash fed cattle ended the week $1 lower. Feeder cattle markets were steady to $2 higher. June live cattle futures closed $5 higher and the August feeders closed $1.50 higher. Boxed beef gain $76 this week on strength in all primals. Cash hogs gained nearly $8 this week and the June lean hog contract gained more than $11. Pork cutout value closed nearly $21 higher on strength across the board. 
• Processing pressure: There continues to be pressure in the processing sector. The President invoked the Defense Production Act which should eventually alleviate some pressure on the supply chain. 
• Restaurant performance index: The March overall index came in at 95, that is a record low, surpassing the previous record low which was in December 2008. Same store sales and customer traffic both registered 15-point declines from February to March. The expectations component of the index also fell, down 3 percentage points as the outlook look clouded.
