In this episode of Living in Step with the Holy Spirit, Bruce Downes reflects on Romans 13:12–14 and St Paul’s call to “put on the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Holiness can sometimes seem like something extraordinary, reserved for saints, religious people, or those whose lives appear far removed from our own. But Scripture tells a different story. God calls every one of us to holiness.
Bruce reminds us that holiness is most often lived quietly in ordinary life. It is lived in our homes, workplaces, marriages, friendships, responsibilities, conversations, and daily decisions. It is lived when we choose patience instead of irritation, honesty instead of convenience, kindness instead of criticism, generosity instead of self-interest, and forgiveness instead of resentment.
To “put on Christ” means allowing His character to become visible in us. It means allowing His humility, mercy, compassion, purity, obedience, and love to shape the way we live.
The Holy Spirit does not simply teach us about Jesus. He forms Jesus within us.
Today’s invitation is to make the daily choice to put on Christ, not in some distant future when life feels easier, but today, in the ordinary moments of your life.
