Jennifer’s starting from scratch, $1000 budget (About $84 a month) to become an Acrylic Painter:
Watercolor Paper, in small sizes
8-12 colors, mid tier paints- Liquitex basics
CHEAP brushes
Find Free courses (youtube, in person gatherings, etc)
After a few months find a paid class. Community College, local academy’s, or an online course.
From there decide on more supplies, or more education
Stephanie’s starting from scratch, $1000 budget (about $84 a month) to become an oil painter:
10 oil colors, I like Gamblin’s 1980’s student grade colors.
Synthetic brushes (5-8) kinds
Masters Paintings soap
Rags (cut up old sheets or towels, make sure to throw them away OUTSIDE when done with your painting day.)
Small bottle of Gamsol (for helping thin paint and remove color from brushes)
Oil primed paper, and flat canvas sheets.
Now find a drawing class! Live models are great, would also recommend still life classes.
Drawing supplies 6B-6H
A sketchbook 8x10 in or BIGGER
An eraser, tape, viewfinder
For the 2nd have of your painting year, look for a color theory/ color mixing class.
That will use up most of the $1000 and get you very far in your art journey!
Host and artist Stephanie Scott breaks down the practicality of the art career with topics including: sustainable creative practices, social media skills, and mindsets to keep us in the studio. New episodes every Tuesday!
