    Bside Incoming: Hiatt dB
It’s with great pleasure that we bring you another amazing artist from further a field in our ‘Bside Incoming’ series. An accomplished percussionist and DJ turned producer, and of course a man with an impressive vinyl collection: Hiatt dB.
This is a Bside showcase all the way from New Orleans, where he began his career performing percussion and holding down the decks before founding his very own party series and record label. It’s a city of rich musical history in which Hiatt dB has built his own soundsystem which made its Mardi Gras maiden voyage this year. You’ll find him broadcasting regularly on WUTL New Orleans 91.5 (8-10pm Saturdays) as well as promoting some great dance music from across the Gulf South via his Mystery Zone Records.
    https://mysteryzonerecords.bandcamp.com
He is actually the first American to release on Rhythm Section, our own first feature of the ‘Bside of...’ series. The B2 track ‘Everyday Break’ is an energetic breaks track that only serves to prove his pedigree as a percussionist:

    Bside Incoming: Bill Brewster
This week we have the pleasure of presenting you a man who knows the ins and outs of the industry, a DJ, a music writer and compiler.
When he’s not tearing up dancefloors at some of the worlds best party spots like London’s Fabric, he’s working away at the discovery and promotion of new music. Through his own deep house label Forensic, editing Mixmag USA, curating the After Dark spin off series of the amazing late night tale compilations, or
writing an in depth book dedicated to the profession ‘Last Night a DJ Saved My Life’ .
Safe to say Bill’s a busy man, so we’re certainly delighted that he’s taken the time to share with us some of the many Bside gems discovered over 50 years of collecting, throughout a long and illustrious career in the music industry.
And gems of the purist Bside variety they are: some post punk experimentation into electronic music, soul music of the highly collectible kind, charity shop magic, and a sprinkling of the deepest dance floor grooves.

Hailing from Toronto, but spending lots of their of time in Johannesburg where the record label has taken its deep rooted musical influence, La Casa Tropical crew are on a mission to release and reissue the feel good party gems that they have discovered on their African adventure.
No wonder then, that our past guest REES opened his Bside account with this sunny song from their 2018 reissue of Bayete’s Blue Monday, just a little taste of the amazing music they have discovered in South Africa :
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKotiKqJssY

  • Bside Incoming: Tiptoes
    Bside Incoming: Tiptoes
The re-upload marks the 14th Bside brought to you since the start of Scottish quarantine, and provides another chance to find some fresh music as we take a journey through the record bag of Glasgow based producer and crate-digger TIPTOES. The whole episode is infused with the kind of deep rhythms, moody chord progressions, and jazzy interludes that you can be sure to expect from his productions:
Tiptoes popped up on our radar with his recent EP Rhythms & Solos, released on Nómada Records : The record label and jazzy collective featuring one of Bside’s favourite artists, Felipe Gordon. Safe to say we have a lot of time for his punchy remix of Tiptoes jazzy title track. (https://soundcloud.com/…/tiptoes-rhythms-solos-felipe-gordon).
But he’s long been a proponent of deep house grooves; his 2011 debut album (under his name Dominic Martin) ‘Family Affair’ on the highly respected LostMyDog record label thrust him onto the scene with some of his tracks being graced by the decks of Kerri Chandler, Milton Jackson, Eats Everything, Mosca, DJ Spinna, Mark Farina, DJ Sneak, and Maya Jane Coles. ( Here’s a personal favourite https://www.youtube.com/watch…).
And in recent years he has also been pumping out some serious heaters under his current alias on Guesthouse USA, notably ’Steppin’ which has featured on an essential mix (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leaGfBUzX4w).
His most recent release 'Ruffcut' on Moment Cinetique carries some heat with strong vocals over deep and suspending chords. (https://momentcinetique.bandcamp.com/album/ruffcut)
This Episode’s got it all; much loved classics from Soichi Terada and Kerri Chandler, hidden gems like ex-terrestrial’s downtempo electro, some wax magic with a Mr.G record at the ‘wrong speed’, a dose of rare salsa, and plenty of funk!

*To put it straight - we had a shocker. While attempting to remove the previous file off one playlist and add it to another, we deleted Tiptoes' mix from Soundcloud all together. It was a truly heart wrenching moment as his mix was both up there with our favourites, and it had got a lot of listens and likes from you lot. So rather than just quietly uploading the mix again, we want to present it as we normally would - loud and proud.*

  • Bside Incoming: Benster
    Bside Incoming: Benster
This week we bring you our second Bside Incoming mixtape from Copenhagen - this time in the very capable hands of Benster.
You will often catch him doing his thing as ‘MARSMAND’, his solo alias, but he is also a man of many projects and collaborations : one half of '303 Brothers' and the ‘Jazztronauterne' (Jazztronauts); part of the ‘Back When Club’ duo that brought the retro dance experience to the Chateau Motel in its heyday as well as one of ‘The WaxWarriors’ who were crowned Denmarks “Best Radio Deejays” in 2017.
With a DJ career spanning the last 12 years and a plethora of musical influences you can expect anything from disco to jazz-funk, from techno to video game soundtracks, from house to ambient mixtapes. He’s been almost entirely playing vinyl since 2014 and naturally Benster has a few gems tucked away for our Bside audience.
Bringing us in with a silky smooth intro, easing us in with some funky rhythms, but he’ll be sure to have you two-stepping by the end! Another wonderful Bside selection for you.
