When Ryan Day arrived at Ohio State in January of 2017 as the Buckeyes' co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, he was overshadowed by the hiring of offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Kevin Wilson. Almost everyone -- certainly including us here at Bucknuts -- thought Wilson was the one who was going to bring the offense to new heights in Columbus. After all, it was Wilson who was relatively successful as the head coach at Indiana (and always fielded good/great offenses at IU) and it was Wilson who had a history of being a standout offensive coordinator at the college level at Oklahoma and Northwestern.
Yet, in the span of one year, it was Day who was turning down an opportunity to be an offensive coordinator in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans. It was Day who was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2018. And it was Day who became just the second assistant coach ever at Ohio State to make a salary in the seven-digits (joining Greg Schiano).
Then when Urban Meyer was suspended, it was Day who took over the program during preseason camp and for the first three games of the 2018 season. Then when Meyer retired after the 2018 season, Ohio State was so impressed with Day that they didn't even do a search for a new head coach. The Buckeyes promoted Day to head coach, and the early returns on the recruiting front and just how he handles his business in general have been positive.
On today's show, Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle to discuss the quick rise of Ryan Day, plus:
* How Justin Fields and Matthew Baldwin look so far at quarterback.
* Thoughts on OSU's 2019 wide receivers.
* Ohio State's basketball team defeating Indiana on Thursday and advancing to face Michigan State today in the Big Ten Tournament.
All of that and more is coming at you on the Friday extravaganza.
Ohio State spends every recruiting cycle battling the nation’s best programs for the nation’s best prospects. This cycle is no different when it comes to the quality of targets.
But Ohio State has a new man at the helm in Ryan Day. So every big-time recruiting tussle takes on a more interesting tone.
247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong is here to spread wisdom all over when it comes to:
* Bijan Robinson
* Mekhail Sherman
* Rakim Jarrett
* Jalen Kimber
And more!

Ohio State has seven commitments in its 2020 recruiting class, which is ranked as the No. 5 class in the country thus far by the 247Sports Composite.
The People's Champ, Matt Baxendell, joins Dave Biddle on today's show to discuss that, plus:
* What has stood out about spring practice for the Buckeyes so far?
* Who are two inexperienced defensive backs who appear to be coming on strong for OSU?
All of that and much more is coming at you on the Wednesday extravaganza.
Ohio State has seven Class of 2020 commitments thus far. All seven are offensive players.
That seventh commitment came yesterday from Norwalk (Ohio) tackle Trey Leroux. He's the fourth offensive linemen added to the mix. You can see a trend developing here, huh?
What does Duane Long think of adding Leroux? What does it mean for the rest of Ohio State's offensive line targets?
Also:
What do we think of the quarterback 'competition' between Justin Fields and Matthew Baldwin?
Greg Mattison is the true boss of the defense. Is that a good thing?
All that and more so spend 5ish with us today, 'Nutters!
The Joshua Perry Show, starring former Ohio State linebacker, captain, national champion and NFL player, Joshua Perry, is back and there is plenty to discuss.
* One of the big differences Joshua has noticed with the program as the Buckeyes transition from the Urban Meyer era to the Ryan Day era is a sense of calm at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. You will want to hear Joshua's detailed thoughts on the matter.
* What else is standing out about OSU's spring ball thus far?
* Does Joshua think it is a legit battle for the starting quarterback job between Justin Fields and Matthew Baldwin?
* What are the current players saying about the new coaches? How is everyone meshing?
* Ohio State is on spring break this week. Joshua explains just how worried the coaches are when the players are on spring break.
All of that and more on the latest edition of The Joshua Perry Show.
Ohio State's football team is off this week due to spring break. However, two practices of spring ball are in the books, and we take a look at what has stood out for the Buckeyes at this very early stage and what has perhaps surprised us.
Bill "Bank" Greene joins Dave Biddle for today's show for that, plus:
* Matthew Baldwin has looked good during the portions of practice that have been open to the media. But is there are true quarterback battle at Ohio State for the starting job, or do we pretty much think it's Justin Fields' job for sure?
* A close look at OSU head coach Ryan Day's recruiting strategy thus far. It reminds us a lot of two legendary coaches who recently led the Buckeyes' program.
All of that and more is coming at you on the Monday extravaganza.
Branden Bowen has not played in a real football game since October of 2017 against Maryland when he was Ohio State's starting right guard. Bowen suffered a broken leg that day which required multiple surgeries.
Now a fifth-year senior, Bowen is running with the first-team offense at right tackle for OSU this spring.
Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle for his usual Friday visit to talk about Bowen, and JBook also covers:
* What has stood out about Ohio State's spring ball thus far?
* Impressions of Justin Fields and Matthew Baldwin.
* The Buckeyes' practice this morning is open to the media. What will we be keeping a close eye on?
All of that and more on the Friday extravaganza.
Ohio State’s staff is full-speed ahead when it comes to the Class of 2020. Ryan Day and Co. are tasked with showing they can recruit at ‘Meyer level’ without you-know-who around for the cycle.
So we thought it was time to take it from the top. Where does Ohio State stand with its top uncommitted targets? We brought it 247Sports Director of Recruiting to answer just that on the following top prospects:
* Bryan Breese
* Julian Fleming
* Sa’vell Smalls
* Arik Gilbert
* Kelee Ringo
* Mekhail Sherman
* Kendall Milton
* Rakim Jarrett
* Darnell Washington
* Justin Rogers
* Johnny Wilson
* Bijan Robinson
* Antoine Sampah
* Fred Davis II
* Jordan Johnson
* Clark Phillips III
* Darrion Henry
Sit back and soak up the knowledge as you spend 5ish with us today, ‘Nutters!
Spring practice begins this morning for Ohio State, and the first hour is open to the media.
What will we be looking for the most during the first spring ball of the Ryan Day era? What are the biggest storylines for the Buckeyes?
Patrick Murphy joins Dave Biddle to talk about all of that and much more on a jam-packed edition of the Wednesday extravaganza.
Who made money?
Who still needs to sell themselves a bit?
Duane Long is here to break down all things Buckeyes from the NFL Scouting Combine.
Did Nick Bosa pass the doctors' test?
Dwayne Haskins is not fast.
Kendall Sheffield saw a Brinks truck drive away.
The truck may be headed for Mike Weber’s house.
But the truck can’t catch Parris Campbell.
We put a bow on Ohio State’s trip to the annual talent show and ponder which Buckeyes will be Indy bound a year from now.
