Bucknuts Morning 5: An Ohio State athletics podcast

What is the latest with the top uncommitted recruits on Ohio State's board?

The Dean of Ohio State Football Recruiting, Bill Kurelic, joins Dave Biddle to tell you what you need to know about K'Vaughan Pope (who will announce this evening), Micah Parsons, Jackson Carman, Kamryn Babb, Tyreke Smith and Blue Smith.

Also, what is the deal with DE Andrew Chatfield? Is he looking elsewhere? Are OSU's coaches encouraging him to look around?

How many spots do the Buckeyes have available in their 2018 class?

The Friday extravaganza has you covered on all of that and more.

What has been the key to Ohio State's consistent success on the field?

It's a direct result of success on the recruiting trail and it is not just about getting the most talented prospects to Columbus.

It's more than that. 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong is here to provide insight on how much more.

You will like his reasoning.

Also:

* Will Blue Smith be blue?

* How surprised are we that J.K. Dobbins is the 'surprise' of camp?

Don't digress! Spend some quality time with us this a.m.!

Usually, the longer you wait to buy tickets to a big football game on the secondary market, the better.

However, is this year's showdown in Columbus between Ohio State and Oklahoma the exception to that rule?

The People's Champ, Matt Baxendell, joins Dave Biddle to give advice on all things involving OSU football tickets, plus:

* Are we buying the optimistic talk about the Buckeyes' wide receivers through the first few days of practice?

* What stands out defensively thus far?

That plus more on a relatively quick edition of the 5ish (for our long-winded standards).

If it's fall camp it can mean only one thing: freshmen hype.

We all play a role in the hype train engine. Sometimes it drives us towards reality.

Other times it drives us toward Rod Smith.

The hype doesn't always match the production.

But that won't stop us!

The annual freshman hype train is leaving the station and it looks like defensive end Chase Young has a first class seat.

We bring in your fave Duane Long to address the Young buzz and try to put it in context. Let's just say Big D is no wet blanket in this case.

Also:

* Why Haskell Garrett is off to such a good start ...

* Top Class of 2018 cornerback target likes him some Buckeyes ...

* Michigan lineman yet to play a down as a high school junior is worth the hype himself!

Start your August with us 'Nutters!

What is the latest on the No. 7 inside linebacker recruit in the country, K'Vaughn Pope?

Alex Gleitman joins Dave Biddle to give insights on that, plus:

* Besides Pope, what is the biggest recruiting storyline on Gleitman's radar right now?

* Pivioting to team coverage, what has stood out most about the Buckeyes through the first two practices?

* Will Sean Nuernberger win the No. 1 kicker job and have a good season?

* Who will win the battle at right guard?

* When will Urban Meyer next meet with the media? (Hint: Very soon.)

All of that and more is covered on the Monday extravaganza.

When Ohio State opened practice on Thursday, it was true freshman J.K. Dobbins who was getting the first-team reps at running back.

Will the Buckeyes have their first true freshman starting RB since Maurice Clarett this season?

Probably not, since the reason Dobbins was running with the first-team was because third-year sophomore Mike Weber was nursing a minor injury. But it was still "interesting" to see Dobbins ahead of Demario McCall, as our Jonah Booker says on today's show.

How much will Dobbins play this year?

J-Book joins Dave Biddle to discuss that, plus:

* Who will win the right guard battle?

* Wide receiver Johnnie Dixon keeps getting singled out in a positive manner by the coaches. Are we buying this will be Dixon's breakout season?

* Defensively, what stood out after the first day of practice?

We have that and more as you end you work week the right way -- with the Bucknuts Morning 5.

It's a double-whammy for Bucknutters today here on the BM5.

First, we bring in Dave Biddle 'live' from the field as Spring Practice has kicked off. Our guys were able to take in portion of this today's 6:30 a.m. practice.

Who aced the eye test?

Who lined up at right guard?

Who was on the sideline?

Then, 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong stops by for his weekly spot to talk all things Buckeye recruiting.

Marcus Hooker headed for Buckeye status? Blue Smith the same? How about Jason Oweh?

It's all here in a power-packed BM5ish!

What are the biggest storylines as Ohio State begins preseason camp early Thursday morning?

Patrick Murphy joins Dave Biddle to discuss that, plus:

* What were highlights from Big Ten media days from OSU's perspective?

* The Buckeyes have a whopping seven fifth-year seniors who could all play big roles this year. We love this. Do you?

* What kind of playing time can fans expect from backup running backs Demario McCall and J.K. Dobbins?

That and more on the midweek extravaganza.

Is it a weakness?
Or is there strength in numbers?
Is it all a mind game?
Buckeyes boss Urban Meyer took the podium at Big Ten Media Days in Chicago on Monday to address the state of his team.
Right guard?
Replacing Malik Hooker?
Complementing Marcus Baugh?
We knew the areas of concern. But having The Urb reference them for all to hear let us know some things.
What things?
Things that Duane Long can speak on. And he did. On this show. Today. For you. Enjoy.
Spend 5ish with us this a.m.!

Are you ready for some football?

Big Ten media days runs Monday-Tuesday, and Ohio State has all of its media obligations today.

Dave Biddle and Steve Helwagen are on the scene in Chicago.

On today's show, we give you the schedule for events for the Buckeyes today. Head coach Urban Meyer is joined in the Windy City by defensive end Tyquan Lewis, center Billy Price and middle linebacker Chris Worley.

What are the biggest storylines for Ohio State on offense heading into training camp?

What are the biggest storylines on defense?

Biddle and Helwagen converse about that and more on this (relatively) short edition of the 5ish.
