Buffy Boys

Satanic panic clutches the pearls of Sunnydale's suggestible parental population! When Joyce finds two ritually murdered children the town turns just a lil fascist against witches, slayers and other queer allegories. Who Watches The Watcher Watchers? The Buffy Boys do in S03E11 "Gingerbread".

Key Buffy Bits from this episode include:

• Black nail polish and boy witches: Magic as metaphor for gender defiant transgression

• Selective memory and mass delusion; resisting dark forces by choosing the burden of awareness

• Joyce's pitch perfect Anita Bryant impersonation

• The pervasive and illiterate terror of deep European folklore

• "Now, let's be clear. The brain damage happened before I hit you"

 Yours in Slaying,

Buffy Boys

Yours in slaying,  The Buffy Boys

Angel is being haunted by the First Evil who torments him with the memories of all the people, and accents, he has mercilessly butchered. Can Buffy talk him out of his pity party before the sun comes up? The Buffy Boys have a Very Slayer Christmas in S03E10 "Amends".

Key Buffy Bits from this episode include:

• Emotional Special Effects: Ethical story-telling in the use of traumatic plot points as character flavour
• The unavoidable Buffy-as-Christ imagery
• The Call is Coming from Inside the Queer - the monster as a surrogate for the marginalized viewer
• Laying the groundwork for Angel's spin-off redemption premise
• "Strong is fighting. It's hard and it's painful and it's every day"

Yours in Slaying,

The Buffy Boys

A heartbroken Cordelia gets her wish answered by a vengeance demon and she's transported to a Buffy-less and vampire-ridden Sunnydale. Key Buffy Bits from this episode include:

• For Want of a Stake: nature versus nurture in the evolution of Buffy's unique found family
• Bi Now, Dead Later: Vampire Willow's complicated contribution to Willow's sexual liberation
• The Wishverse - continuity tangles within the Buffyverse lore
• "World is what it is. We fight, we die. Wishing doesn't change that"

Spike is back in town on a whirlwind one-episode-stop to coerce Willow into a love spell that'll win Drusilla back. A magic shop, a 1959 vintage car, and at least four relationships will be ruined before he's done. But what's a little emotional trauma between friends? The Buffy Boys dive into the empty swimming pool of S03E08 "Lovers Walk".

Key Buffy Bits from this episode include:

• The Platonic Slayer: The climax of Buffy's tragic romance and its heralding of the core Buffy format
• Vamp: is it camp? - Spike's defanging and the comic turn of the soulless undead
• Gateway Witchcraft: addiction allegory in Willow's sliding magical and moral standards
• ""There will be no 'bottle in face', and there will be no having of any kind with me!"
