PRIORITY Q&A

Andrew D.

In the story, “Eggman’s Day Off”, from Sonic Annual 2020, Dr. Starline is looking at events happening through portals from the Warp Topaz. Were these events happening simultaneously? Also, those events took place after Dr. Starline had already started to have doubts about working for Dr. Eggman, yet in this story he still seems to be a big fanboy. Would you say this story takes place before the events seen in the portals and ignore the contents of what was seen, or would you say this takes place after those events seen in the portals and ignore Dr. Starline’s unwavering admiration of Dr. Eggman? Or perhaps you might have a different solution altogether?

AfroLuffyX

Since Webtoon series like tower of god and god of high school managed to have anime adaptations with the help of Crunchyroll, how would you feel If webtoon come to you and talk about Drogune getting animated series?

I know by the time I’m Writing this question there isn’t that much material to adapt, but! would you gave the staff The outline of the story you planned or allowed to staff to do their own thing with the material and how much creative input would you do?

Koopaling Krew

I know that Sonic is "the fastest thing alive". And Shadow seems to be about on par with Sonic's speed consistently. But I've noticed that his shoes have these sort of "boosters" on the soles whenever he runs. So my question to you is, is Shadow as fast as Sonic because of the aid of his special shoes? Or is Shadow naturally as fast as Sonic and his shoes' functions are for a different purpose?

Scruffymatt

A hypothetical question for you this week: if the Sonic cast decided to have a go at playing Dungeons and Dragons (or any other kind of tabletop RPG), what race and class do you think each of them would play? Would Tails be the dungeon master, or do you think someone else would better fit that role?

On a semi-related note, I'm curious as to whether Bumblekwest is still happening at some point in the future? I'm assuming it's on the back burner while Ian's voice still isn't 100%?

AWF

I know Ian has said before that he doesn't indulge in Sonic related fan content because, as writer for the official comic he worries it might affect his creativity, worried people might say he plucked ideas from their stuff, etc,

...Will the female characters ever be the ones to lead the charge? You know like Amy, Tangle, Whisper, Cream, etc. With all the focus and dvelopment Cream has been having I would expect her to play a major role later on. In Sonic Universe #16, Espio brings up “The Sneak”, a name Sonic went under in StH #97 when he had to stay at Knothole under house arrest. How exactly does Espio know about this because, during that, Espio was on Angel Island along with Mighty and Vector when it was sent to a pocket dimension when the Dark Legion fired the Quantum Beam?

What are your thoughts on issue 94 of Archie Sonic and the idea of sonic And the Other freedom fighters going to School ? My opinion on the issue is Sonic going to school at that point in time in the book history was an Extremely a bad idea especially when Eggman is still alive and kicking plus they didn’t need to go to school and they could’ve written issue 94 about sonic and Co. getting jobs The whole issue Felt like I was reading a fanfic

Now that Archie sonic is gone would you bring all characters from archie sonic into idw sonic since they don’t have a home anymore like the knothole freedom fighters?

I've been doing a bit of thinking about the Sonic Mania timeline recently, and I'm wondering what it was that caused the timelines to split. For a few years I've been wondering about how classic Sonic is "from another dimension," but I recently came across the theory that the Time Eater snatching classic Sonic, Tails and Eggman in Sonic Generations created an alternate timeline - the Sonic Mania timeline, if you will. But now that this thing finally makes sense to me, I've started wondering what the cause of the timeline split is. What changed that made the Phantom Ruby appear in the Mania timeline, but not the main series timeline? Sonic and Tails got back to their own time at the end of the game in Generations, so that shouldn't have made a significant difference. Was the big change that classic Eggman was trapped in Whit...

Or is there possibly something to the theory that the Phantom Ruby is actually a fragment of the Time Eater which broke off and fell backwards in time when the Super Sonics destroyed it? I'm really curious to hear your thoughts on this one,

Do you know if his plan where the ARK crashes into the Earth was automatically activated by Eggman once he inserted the seventh Chaos Emerald into the Eclipse Cannon? Or was it a failsafe that was triggered when Sonic used the fake Chaos Emerald to destroy the cannon? Did the scene of Sonic wrecking the Eclipse Cannon at the end of Sonic Adventure 2's Hero story even canonically happen...?

How does the process differ between being the sole writer for the comic and taking a back seat while another writer takes over with your input? How much of the story are you told about, and how does it effect you coming back as sole writer, assuming we’ll see you writing on the book again.

Diane W.

Which season do you think The Simpsons should’ve ended...? And do you think voice actors should be casted based on their talent, regardless of who they are?

Koopaling Krew

Congrats on Tangle and Whisper appearing in Dash and Speed Battle! I was wondering, in the event that the two appear in a mainline Sonic game, or a major spin-off like Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games or Sonic Racing, that will likely mean those two will have voice actors for the first time. So my question is, who do you think should, or be a cool fit to, voice Tangle and Whisper? (and if you had infinite money and sway to pick any voice talent)

Hi Ian and Kyle, how are you guys doing today?

Ian, when the ArchieSonic comics got rebooted in issue #252, you were given the opportunity to do a lot of new world building and create a number of new freedom fighter characters from various parts of the world... Did you have any plans for stories or characters in this area of the world that will eventually see the light of day in Lost Hedgehog Tales? If not, what do you think you'd come up with if you were asked to pitch a new team of characters from this region?

Alex M.

In the last two Sonic IDW Annuals, why is it that Amy didn't really physically appear but was still featured in the covers? Will she ever actually appear in an Annual or is there just no ideas/interest on a story featuring her? And two, I notice that despite the leadership/tactician role she's been filling, she is a lot less physically active that she was before. Is that because of her role in Forces and is it permanent or will she become more of an active fighter as the comic goes along? Lastly I wanted to thank you for what you said in the last Q&A about Tangle & Whisper and creating them to have more active female characters in the story. I'm glad to hear you want there to be more active female characters. You see i'm a trans woman, and it is very important to me to see more relevant female characters in the stories i'm into. I hope this means there will be even more of a push for female characters in the comic and more female focus in general. Or at least more balance between the male and female characters.

PS. Can you guys say "trans rights!" please?

Diane W.

About your Sonic stories before joining Archie...Ian, why do you always write your Sonic the Hedgehog fan-fictions as grim, dark, and mean-spirited where you portray the characters as hypocritical terrorists, evil generic villains, being jerks to other characters despite their actual dynamic in the official games, GUN as villains, and either brutally killing off characters, or giving them downer endings where they lose everything and everyone that they love, sometimes deciding to take over the world for the sake of world peace? Did you use to have problems as a teenager or do you just like writing dark and gritty stories of a franchise targeted...

Hey there fellas, I hope you're having a good podcast. I was wondering what your favourite Sonic game soundtracks are? I've been listening to the Sonic Generations and Sonic Mania soundtracks recently while I've been working on my achievements, and those two are just *chef’s kiss*

Crooker

What kinds of things would you try to do to differentiate the Chaos Emeralds from the Super Emeralds, in a hypothetical alternate reality where they were still canon?

Chris A.

If Ken Penders didn’t filled the lawsuit against archie comics would the pre reboot sonic still exist and reached to issue 300?

Andrew D.

It has just been revealed that Tangle and Whisper will be coming to Sonic Dash and Sonic Forces: Speed Battle. Are they fully owned by Sega, or is it a joint ownership between them and Sega? And do you think this opens the door to other Sonic characters from the other comics or tv shows? I’d love to see Sticks for example.

Koopaling Krew

What is your reaction to Tangle and Whisper appearing in Sonic mobile games? Does this influence your decisions in how you make new characters for the IDW series?

Diane W.

In the Archie reboot, if there was a mandate that SEGA characters are not allowed to have family members introduced into the comics, a mandate that Penders characters or locations or events cannot be mentioned or named beyond vague references, and a mandate that classic forms of characters can’t be implied to be younger forms of the characters, how were you able to get away with giving Shadow a biological brother in the form of Eclipse the Darkling, making Naugus and Wendy Witchcart brother and sister, retelling the story of how Sally met Nicole in holo-form for the first time, and making Sonic, Tails, and even some of the SatAM cast look like their classic selves when going into flashbacks of their past?

Standard Q&A

Adriana R.

Do you know any character name in Jackal Squad? We the fan know that Infinite is not his real name but we really want to know. Some of the fans have idea of jackal Squad members' name that can be close to it.

Diane W.

What if Bunnie got infected with the Metal Virus? Since the Metal Virus cannot infect something that’s already metal, what would happen to her robotic limbs? Will they remain on her as a zombot or would they fall off and new limbs grow in their place as the metal virus can heal damage that the zombots take?
