For Part 1 of Episode 0018, the Bums cover the lunacy that is the NCCA March Madness men’s basketball tourney, leading up to the final showdown between Gonzaga and Baylor, UNC’s new head coach (Hubert Davis) who is Mr. Salem-Winston, the Carolina Panthers crazy-like-a-fox acquisition of Sam Darnold for “a bag of beans” (and a few draft picks), the first week of MLB baseball including the Chicago Cubs hitting woes (the Bums have more hits than the Cubs starting line-up), the tragic murder/suicide of five souls in South Carolina at the hands of former-NFL corner back Phillip Adams, Rocky and Paddy knife fight over the Masters in the shadow of Georgia’s racism, and finally a quick check-in on Tiger Woods-Andretti.
The Bums dive into Part 2 with a story epitomizing the ‘thrill of victory and the agony of defeat’, as Rocky ran the gauntlet in a single day (COVID-19 vaccination and DMV license renewal) before crashing his e-bike on the way to drink beer, speaking of beer — the Bums review Chicago’s own Old Irving Brewing and their cornerstone Scentinel IPA, dining out in Chicago, the crucifixion of Scumbag-of-the-Week, Steve Waithe (track-and-field coach at Northeastern University) who scammed female athletes into sharing nude/semi-nude pictures, and the Bums close with a segment highlighting shocking and overt racism from cartoons of old (fan request from Boston Dough).

Welcome to Episode 0017, a slightly shorter version due to an unplanned power loss (ah…shit). In Part 1, Paddy leads us into the abyss with a new segment, “I did not know that”, which focuses on the origins of March Madnessl, the Bums take stock in the NCAA Mens tourney leading up to Final Four, and Rocky slams the NFL’s decision to expand the regular season to 17 games, a review of MLB opening day “who ha” and assorted Chicago baseball chatter as the Cubbies eyeball Anthony “Two Chains” Rizzo’s contract extension.
Part 2 starts with a bang and fizzle, as the Bums sacrifice fifteen minutes of live recording due to “power problem” (we’ll make it up next week). Getting back on track, the Bums discuss the Vaccination “function” before launching into an update on the new CNN TV series focused on serial killer John Wayne Gacy, and finally the Bums take a stand on the topic of voter suppression and racism leading up to MLB’s wise decision to relocate the AllStar game from Atlanta, Georgia.

In Episode 16, the Bums start out with a Scumbag of the Week diatribe courtesy of Deshaun Watson, before pivoting to celebrate the life of the late/great Elgin Baylor, an overview of NBA free agency and the Chicago Bulls’ new star Nikola Vučević, the ‘big bag of trouble’ that former Chicago Cubs prospect Jesus Camargo-Corrales is in, before wrapping Part 1 with a State- of-the-Bracket overview from early rounds of March Madness, the soft and disappointing exit from nine teams from the Big 10 conference and other busts, and finally an update Bears QB search that will undoubtedly trickle into the NFL Draft.
On the back side, the Bums explore a new six part, six hour docu-series entitled, “John Wayne Gacy: Devil in Disguise”, including a shout out to our neighbor and friend Alison True (executive consultant) who worked on the series, continuing forward with a hard discussion around recent domestic terrorism in Georgia and Colorado stemming from the lack of common sense gun reform, before closing with a beer review from Sketchbook Brewing that covers a German wheat ale, a Citra Pale Ale, and a Hazy Double IPA which came to the Bums from honorary Bum and listener, Jolanta (a kind thank you).

Welcome to Episode 15! The Bums latest episode starts with a toast (shocker) to the late and “Marvelous” Marvin Hagler, inside of pugilism’s golden era of middle-weights, before things get serious on the Eve of March Madness. NFL football blabber begins as Drew Bress prepares to carve his initials and jersey number into the HOF legacy tree, followed by an NFL free agency update, which begins with a uproarious whimper as Mitch Tribinsky (sic) brings his act to Bills Nation, Ryan Fitzy rides the trail of tears to Washington, and the Bears announce another blockbuster acquisition with the signing of fucking Andy “0-and-5-in-the-playoffs” Dalton — if you tune-in carefully, you can actually hear Rocky’s head explode while discussing the state of the rapidly eroding Chicago Bears franchise.
Part two starts with a shamrock-o’-rific extravaganza as the Bums drink-in another St. Irish Boozing Day, with Paddy revealing Irish/Ireland facts that will surprise even the O’Rourkes, O’Malleys and McGees of the world. Racist xenophobes are ground to ashes by the Bums, on the tail of yet another violent attack on our Asian community, before things get a little more lighthearted as chatter turns to the musical sensation known as the GoGos (recently covered by a solid SHOWTIME documentary), followed by a fun jib-jab on 1970’s TV series.

Paddy kicks off Deuxième Partie (a gentle reminder that we’re an international operation) with ten points of light — France edition, before moving on to how a highly entrepreneurial kid takes sneaker maker Nike’s employee discount policies to a new level, while Rocky’s trip to the barbershop discovers a new activity (MMA Basketball) invented by those sneaky Russians, MMA giant Dana White brings his brand of greed to Texas, rollover car accidents are becoming popularized by sports figures (looking at you Jimmy Graham and Tiger), before closing with a listener request from Nicky Fish Hooks (aka NFH) on the topic of where INXS falls into the pantheon of musical band greatness (or not).
