The two cyclonic circulations located over either ends of the South Bay of Bengal have prompted the formation of a trough from the Central Bay reaching out towards the coast of Tamil Nadu, seemingly positioned to propel the next spell of rain and break the jinx surrounding the North-East monsoon.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) maintains the watch for north-easterly winds to strengthen over the extreme South Peninsula (southern parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu) from tomorrow (Wednesday) in what apparently is going to be a three-day burst lasting until Friday.

The North-East monsoon has not been able to rev up to its true potential, hampered even after 10 days after it made a delayed onset over the South Peninsula, mainly on account of lack of adequate number of supporting systems in the form of low-pressure areas or depressions.

The IMD has forecast that the rainfall may gradually pick up after next two days along the Tamil Nadu coast and spread thin over the rest of South Peninsular India. Coastal Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, may receive better organised rain from Saturday, Diwali day.

India’s COVID-19 caseload went past 85 lakh, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 78,68,968 pushing the national recovery rate to 92.49 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.

The total coronavirus cases mounted to 85,07,754 with 45,674 infections being reported in a day, while the death toll climbed to 1,26,121 with 559 new fatalities

In other news,  On the fourth anniversary of demonetisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said it has helped reduce black money, increase tax compliance and formalisation, and given a boost to transparency.

On November 8, 2016, Prime Minister Modi announced the decision to ban all currency notes of higher denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 from midnight.

For the past two years, gold has been one of the best-performing asset classes.

The India Meteorological Department's outlook for Sunday shows that Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry will receive rains. The IMD has said that heavy to very heavy rainfall likely lashing isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, while thunderstorm and lightning are forecast at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Kerala.
