The Centre does not seem to have data on the jobs lost during the pandemic, as the answers given by the Labour Ministry in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday showed.
But Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar did inform the Upper House that over 1 crore migrant workers returned to their home-States during the lockdown.
A quick analysis of 33 written answers tabled by Gangwar showed that eight questions related directly to job losses during the pandemic.

According to SIAM, passenger vehicle sales were up 14.16 per cent year-on-year in August, while FADA numbers show that PV sales fell by 7.12 per cent. Similarly, in the two-wheeler segment, going by SIAM numbers, sales were up 3 per cent y-o-y in August, while FADA said sales to customers fell 28.71 per cent.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is leading in opinion polls against US President Donald Trump. A YouGov poll shows that Biden (51 per cent) has a 11-point lead over Trump (40 per cent).
A CNN poll backs this poll. Biden has the backing of 51 per cent of registered voters, while 43 per cent back Trump.
According to this poll, both candidates have seen an increase in support after the respective party convention, but Trump has more support compared to Biden. For Biden, it's up by 7 per cent to 45 per cent, from the pre-convention 38 per cent, while for Trump, it's now at 77 per cent, a big jump from the 67 per cent before the convention. So can Trump still win?

After 43 years, the DMK has a new general secretary. The party's general council, in a virtual meet held on Wednesday, appointed senior leader Duraimurugan, who was its treasurer, as its new chief. The post was held previously by K Anbazhagan, who passed away on March 7, 2020. The council also appointed TR Baalu as its treasurer, A Raja and K Ponmudi as the party's deputy general secretaries.
