It’s crucial that we take sin seriously. Unrepentant sin leads to God’s judgement and if it’s not dealt with it will spread like a cancer in the church. But God’s wonderful offer of full forgiveness is available to all who will turn from their sin and turn to the Lord Jesus. We can be washed, sanctified, justified, accepted by God, and restored to loving fellowship with one another.

Fellowship is one of the most misunderstood words in Christian circles. In Malaysian churches, fellowship normally means eating and hanging out. We easily confuse friendship with fellowship, because we haven’t truly understood what fellowship is all about: not just eating together or hanging out, but being partners in the gospel. In this final chapter, we’re given one final window into peace and joy that gospel-partnership brings.

Very often we try to prove our value and earn our acceptance through our achievements. Our longing for acceptance drives us on an endless desire to succeed, all in the hope that somehow others will appreciate us. This striving for acceptance can also happen in our relationship with God. Our natural tendency is to think that earn God’s acceptance by impressing him with our moral and religious achievements. But Christianity is very different. At the heart of Christianity is not an attempt to impress God with our good works, but a relationship with Jesus based on grace.

We live in a world that is bitterly divided. Our world is divided by race, by social status, by gender and more. Sometimes division even enters the church. All because we insist on our desires, our way. We long for unity, but If there is going to be real unity, there must be a deep change in the human heart, the kind of change that only the gospel can bring. We must be transformed to live live no longer for ourselves, but for Jesus and for others. Real unity can only be found in the gospel.

What does it look like to live a gospel-shaped life? In Philippians 1, Paul shows that the gospel is his heartbeat: "to live is Christ and to die is gain" (1:21). Paul's whole life is directed towards honouring Christ and making him known.

What does it mean to be a woman?

Many woman struggle to know who they are meant to be, and how they are to live in this world. The church has not been unaffected by these social developments. But discussing the role of woman can be a very divisive issue, that can lead to much anger and bitterness. The complex and very sensitive nature of the issues mean that it’s vitally important for us to come back to the Bible and ask what God has to say in his word on these matters.

What does it mean to be a man? What is biblical manhood? For many of us – being a man – means being powerful and courageous and strong and successful, because that’s what we see on the movies and in the news. But the biblical worldview is quite different. The essence of biblical manhood is sacrificial service. Biblical manhood is about taking responsibility and using your God-given strength and role to love and serve others.

Who or what is your master? Who or what are you serving? For most of us, I think that the idea of serving someone is not particularly appealing. Because deep down - we want to be free. We want to be free to do what we like to do, when we want to do it, without anyone telling us what to do. But God wants us to understand through his word that such a life is not freedom, but another form of slavery. True freedom can only be found in submitting our lives in service of King Jesus.
