c2eMusic Soulful Deep House

As the year draws to a close it’s time to reflect back on the goodies served up to us by the finest soulful house producers on the globe.
I’m sure there won’t be too many surprises, although with this being my show I get to choose my favs from the year.
It’s fair to say there wasn’t much disagreement in the chatroom during the show. There are a couple of naked beats in the session which I apologise for, it is easy to get carried away in the chatroom before realising you should have dropped the next tune on the last set of 32′s!
I was surprised at how many quality vocal tracks were released this year as it would be fair to say that the soulful scene isn’t as big as it was, especially with the Deep house sound growing at the moment.
Great to see tunes from the likes of Reel People, The Layabouts and of course the rear guard, Dave Lee, Spen, Josh Milan. Sean McCabe was in fine form again this year with three tracks in this mix. The guy is a legend already. Don’t forget to tune in every Thursday 10am to 12pm GMT on Pressure radio to catch these sets live. Be part of history in the making.

This mix has been available exclusively on the www.c2emusic.com site since 13th Dec. For

I put this show together while on a long-haul flight up to Singapore. Well what else are you going to do while stuck in a tin can for 8 hours?!
The actual show varied from the original idea with much more disco than planned.
The majority of the mix is deep with a big influence from the new London garage sound that the likes of Danny J Lewis are pumping out at the moment.
Then to keep you on your toes we grab our roller boots and do a couple of laps to some disco infused house.
We chunk things up again before coming back down with a track from 2007 - Pepe Bradocks Burning".
Thanks to everyone in the chat room as always. Time always flies with the bantar we have in there.

This mix is the last in the 92, 02, 12 series. It's a vinyl only affair which made it great fun to do as it was a rare chance to blow the dust off the old 1210's and touch the music. Even have a couple of authentic fat finger moments too!
Putting the session together I was amazed how many tracks were actually from 2001, which means 2001 is set to get rinsed a couple of times in upcoming shows too.
Anyway back to 02 and it's not that shabby either. I'm sure you all remember - Soulfuric & Defected rules the waves and that is evident in this mix.
Some big tunes in here and it may surprise you that they are now 10 years old.
We had a good old reminisce in the chat room during the show.

The clocks have changed in the UK now so the show now starts 10am GMT (well it always did!) However this will now be an hour earlier for those in the UK.

We had ourselves a bumper show this week with an extra 30 minutes. The mix covers pretty much every base on an epic journey.
Starting with a fav of mine from 1991 - "In The Air" on Strictly Rhythm".
The mix then get's deep for a couple of tracks before bringing in some mellow vocal sounds.
We start to turn the screw around the hour mark but keep it vocal. Some incredible tracks in this section. If you like your up-tempo vocal house your in for a treat.
The jumping pumping discofied stuff is next with plenty to shake your rump to.
The gloves come off in the next section as we get chunky and deep.
We finish off with a modern classic from Josh Milan.
Great fun in the chatroom with the Thursday crew and great support on the outside from the regulars, Andy, Claire and Mandy in the UK. I appreciate all of your support, makes my Thursdays special.

Catch you all next week - same time, same place.
Don't forget to join the FB page to keep up to date.

Finally this week would have been C2E Family member Melvin Carlton Roberts 30th birthday but sadly he isn't with us to celebrate. Emma his partner has set up a site to make donations to PSC research to help prevent others from being taken too soon.
Please show your support - every little helps.

Since last weeks show was a trip back in time to 92 I thought it would be wise to reassure everyone that music is still strong today, so this weeks show is a best of 2012. Obviously we are only 3/4 of the way through, but as this show demonstrates 2012 has been a pretty good year by anyone's standards.

This mix is definitely on the chunkier side, so we may well see a more soulful "best of" before Santa drops his sack down the chimney.

The end of this Podcast is slightly different to the live show. That's because I fought the Dropbox and..... the Dropbox won - during the first 15 minutes of the show, so I restarted and forgot to hit record again!
In the live show the guys in the chatroom twisted my arm to keep it pumping. However I re-recorded the session on Sunday night so chose to end on a more mellow note (it was late and I was knacked.)

Thanks to everyone that listened to the live show, it was a busy chatroom once again and it was great to see long time supporters in there.

Likely to get back to the new stuff next week - so remember to tune in for the latest sounds around.
As Colin rightly pointed out, I've been telling everyone an incorrect UK time for the show. It is on at 11am BST (10am GMT), so I apologise to anyone that misses the first half of the show.

However for everyone in Australia next weeks show starts an hour later - so 9pm Sydney time to 11pm. That's due to our clocks going forward this weekend. This will be the regular time during our Summer. Hope I can persuade you to stay up late on a school night :)

This mix was inspired by my mate Bob who tunes in every week. He reached out for a pick me up and something inspirational so here we have it.
For all those true soulful house heads this will be like a 2 hour journey round a musical Madame Tussauds with just about every track bringing back memories and putting a very big smile on your boat race (face for all you guys over the pond :) ).

It was a great show with my busiest chatroom to date so thanks to everyone for helping to make it feel special. You'll notice this mix is 2hrs 16 mins long, but when music sounds this good you don't want it to stop.

So many HUGE tracks on here I can't even begin to pick out favs, they are all stellar examples of what got us hooked on this sound.

Hope you enjoy the mix as much as I enjoyed putting it together. This is one for your iPod's favourite playlist.

If you haven't already, please show your support by joining my new Facebook page dedicated to all things C2E. No spam from all and sundry, just more of this, plus snippets of what's in the cart, blasts from the past and spotlight on what is making my ears smile right now.

Back after a week away. Hope you all missed me :)

To make up for being absent last week I've put together a phunk extravaganza. At least that's what I'm calling it. Not sure how you would describe this kind of house, it's meatier than disco, but it's not funk, and it sure ain't funky house. So phunk it is. You heard it here first.

Most of the tracks here have featured in past mixes, but I have managed to drop a couple of new ones in there to keep you on your toes.

Hard to pick out tunes in this mix because I love them all, that's why they're in here.

Next weeks show is likely to feature a few new tracks again so be sure to tune in to hear the latest and greatest sounds of C2E.

We'll do a little "who's listening in the most exotic location" competition, so if it's exotic where you are, jump in the chat room and let us know.

It's Hong Kong next week for me, but I'll be back in time for the show. Anyone need me to get them any cheap electrical goods? ;)

It's taken a while for 2011 to turn up a big chunky mother of a mix but this one more than makes up for it. Not much to sing along to I'm afraid, but if your looking to get your sweat on you've come to the right place. The opener takes us back to 2009 and a track that I tried hard to find a home for a couple of year back but couldn't. The big phat bass that kicks in gives you a heads up of what your in for. It's not long before Jimpster makes an appearance and he is quickly followed by the Constipated Monkeys who still hold the title of best production name! Many of you will remember their track "Erectus" from the early Subliminal days. "I Keep Thinking Of You" has that new deep house feel to it with the smooth deep flowing sounds. "Vinyl Theme" takes the bass to a whole new level thanks to Max Martinez. Pol On evoke memories of early 90's rave with the synths in "Heavy Rain". It's been a while since we had any Milton Jackson on here but "One Clap Wonder" gives us a great excuse. Next up it's Lovebirds who have delivered BIG, firstly with "Give A Sh1t" which has a deep twisted disco sound with an overlay to die for. We stay with the disco biscuit for Art Of Tones "Dolces" which demonstrates the forward thinking and diversity of the producer. If you go back through older C2E mixes you'll see what I mean. Every track is different and pushing the boundaries. Next is the second Lovebirds track which has already found it's way into my top 3 tracks of 2011, yes it is that good. If you asked me to choose a track that encapsulates the C2E sound I strive for I would have to say "Chasing Things". It's everything I love about deep house music. We stay deep but transition from disco to East coast with "All Nations". One of the few vocal tracks is next and boy did Groove Assassin give this bad boy a workout. "Perfect Love" is a great big bouncing beast of a tune and will have you jumping around uncontrollably. The Aussies get in on the act next with Nathan G's "The Promise", again some great synths and chords in there. "So Real" has an old skool UK garage feel to it as it chugs and bounces along. The next track "It Keeps You Movin'" does exactly what it says on the tin and comes a very close second to Chasing Things. It's nine minutes long but that doesn't feel long enough as you just wanna clear some space and go nuts to this little gem. We start to ease out of the mix, but it's pretty gradual. "Toms Over" sees Kerri Chandler get in on the act. The track then floats over the top of Joey Negro's Medusa mix of "Every Day Of The Week". I have to say Dave is a very busy man at them moment, a ton of releases from him and all of them up to the standards we've come to expect. We leave the mix with "Make It last", a little deep disco number that I would have loved to squeeze more of in. I think this mix is going to live in my favourites for the rest of the year at least. Hopefully I'll get the chance to add another similar mix to the vaults before the year end. In the meantime, go get a towel handy to mop up the seat your about to make, and TURN IT UP!
