On July 22, 2018, 18-year-old Nia Wilson was heading home with her two sisters from a family gathering when she was fatally stabbed. Letifah, Nia's sister, was also stabbed but managed to survive and helped investigators piece together what happened. Thankfully, Nia's killer, John Cowell, was soon apprehended. In their effort to uncover his motive, the police learned that there might not have been one, and her murder could be attributed to the color of her skin. On November 22, 2012, Thanksgiving Day, Nick Brady and Haile Kifer, were supposed to meet with the rest of their family to celebrate the holiday, but the teenagers never showed up. Their families quickly began to worry and filed missing person reports 24 hours later after they couldn’t reach them. It wouldn’t take long before Nick and Haile were found, and sadly, they were not alive. Investigators learned that they were both killed while burglarizing a home. While the homeowner, Byron Smith, stated that he shot them in self-defense, the investigation leads them to believe otherwise.
