Canada will not bend the knee to Orange Jesus. That’s one reading of our recent federal election. The ballots were barely tallied before headline writers around the world were posing the question: Will Canada lead the global opposition to Trumpism?
Do we have the muscle for the fight? Are we internally coherent enough to pull it off? Can we stay focused long enough on what Canada is and could be? These and many other questions need answers before we can address the notion of whether or not Canada is fit to lead an international rebel alliance against an increasingly unhinged and aggressive United States.
Stephen Marche, author of The Next Civil War joins us to tackle the idea.

Jesse Brown is an ideological slut. Well, so he says. His past votes have jumped, in no particular order, from the Conservatives to the NDP “....maybe there was a fringe party or Parti Québécois vote in there somewhere, I can’t even remember who I’ve thrown in with over the years — I have no loyalty, I’m politically promiscuous.”
Given that this is supposed to be the most consequential vote of our lifetimes, and with the polls closing in just a few hours, you’d think even the “politically promiscuous” Jesse Brown would have settled on a party by now. Nope.
So on today’s show he’s gathered the best minds, or at least the most available of his colleagues at Canadaland, to argue the merits of each party.

The “adult in the room” tends to be shouty.
Mark Carney has been portrayed as a measured and methodical counterpoint to Trump throughout his campaign, but earlier reporting reveals a different side of his personality.
But is it a problem if Carney isn’t as cool-headed as he appears?

While most Canadians are gearing up to head to the polls, some are looking for an escape plan. This week, we’re examining the deep roots of Western alienation, Danielle Smith’s separatist flirtations, and what could erupt if Mark Carney’s Liberals sweep to power. To do that, producer Sam Konnert heads out to Alberta to talk to some voters, and calls up Preston Manning, the man behind the conversation. Later, host Noor Azrieh sits down with Dr. Lisa Young for a serious reality check.
And the latest on the utter sidelining of Indigenous issues, a polling update, and why you should get your arse out to the polls on April 28th.
