Carolina gave up 5 goals in the 2nd period and went on to lose to the Avalanche 6-4 in Denver. The Canes winning streak ends at 8 straight. The Hurricanes had a 2-0 lead on the strength of goals from Jack Drury and Jordan Martinook, but Cale Makar's second period shorthanded goal ignited a 5-goal outburst. It was the first shorthanded goal the Canes have allowed this year. 9 minutes and 34 seconds later, Mikko Rantanen scored the Avs' 5th of the period and Carolina never regained the lead. Martinook scored his second of the game early in the 3rd to get the Canes within a goal, but that was it for their scoring on the night. Martin Necas scored a 2nd period power play goal to extend his streak to 9 straight with at least 1 point. Necas has 20 points in that stretch and has 23 points (8g, 15a) in 13 games this season. Spencer Martin made 24 saves in his first start for the Hurricanes this year.
Jack Roslovic's brace pushed the Canes past the Penguins, 5-1. Carolina has now won 8 straight games and improves to 10-2 on the season. He has 9 goals through 12 games. Last year, Roslovic had 9 in 59 games split between Columbus and the NY Rangers. Jordan Martinook, Eric Robinson and Jaccob Salvin also scored, with the first two doing so for a second straight game. Jalen Chatfield had 3 assists, the first time in his career he enjoyed a 3-point night. But, the real story tonight was Pyotr Kochetkov and his 36 save performance. He was the best player for Carolina on a night when the Canes allowed a lot of shots and some high quality scoring chances to the Penguins.
Martin Necas continued his hot streak scoring with 30 seconds left in regulation as the Hurricanes were able to beat the Flyers, 6-4. Necas' 7th goal of the season was his 3rd game-winning goal of the year. He also added an assist earlier (on the Eric Robinson goal) and now has a career high 4 consecutive multi-point games. Jackson Blake, Jack Roslovic, Jordan Martinook, Seth Jarvis and Robinson had the other goals. Brent Burns had 2 assists.
Dimitry Orlov scored twice as the Canes cooled off the red hot Capitals, 4-2, at Lenovo Center. Martin Necas factored in on the first three Hurricanes goals, setting up Orlov for the first and third. In between, his quick breakaway brought Carolina back even 2 1/2 minutes into the 2nd period. Necas has 18 points (6 goals, 12 assists) in his first 10 games after his 3rd consecutive multi-point game. He has 6 of those in his last 8 games. But, the real story tonight was Pyotr Kochetkov's steady, mature performance in net. 19 saves was all that was needed, but he was rock solid throughout.
Andrei Svechnikov and Jack Roslovic each had two goals and Martin Necas piled up 4 points as the Canes scorched the Bruins, 8-2, at Lenovo Center. Carolina got an early goal from Jack Roslovic to take a 1-0 lead. Then, after Boston drew even on the power play, the Hurricanes responded with 3 goals in a 52 second span to take a 4-1 lead into the first intermission. From there, the Canes just poured it on. Pyotr Kochetkov made 13 saves in the win as Carolina moves to 7-2 on the year. Necas leads the Canes with 15 points (5g, 10a) in 9 games. Svechnikov is second on the team with 10 points (4g, 6a). Jordan Martinook notched his 200th career point and Dimitry Orlov played in his 800th career NHL game.
Sebastian Aho's second overtime winner of the season gave the Canes a 4-3 win over the Canucks. Carolina closes out the road trip 5-1-0 with a 4th straight win. Martin Necas had a goal and an assist (on the Aho game-winner) and has three multi-point games in the last four. Williams Carrier had his first goal with the Hurricanes and Jack Roslovic scored his 4th of the season. Carolina will return home to play Boston on Halloween.
The Canes continued their road trip dominance, flying past the Kraken, 4-1. Andrei Svechnikov scored a first period power play goal -- the 5th straight game in which the Canes have connected with the man advantage -- and Frederik Andersen made 18 saves as the Canes won for the 5th time in their last 6 games. Jack Drury, Seth Jarvis and Dimitry Orlov also tallied goals for the Hurricanes who raised their record to 5-2-0 on the season. Andersen won for the 3rd time, and improved to a 1.48 GAA/.941 SV% in 4 starts.
Martin Necas' 100th career goal highlighted the Canes' 4-2 win in Calgary. Carolina got a power play goal from Seth Jarvis and goals from Jack Roslovic and Eric Robinson in winning for the 4th time in their last 5 games. Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 30 shots for his 2nd win. The Canes scored a power play goal for the 4th straight game and shut down the Flames' two chances with the mad advantage. Carolina is 4-2-0 on the year and will travel to meet Seattle on Saturday night.
Sebastian Aho's goal with seven seconds left in overtime pushed the Canes to a 3-2 win in Edmonton. Shayne Gostisbehere and Martin Necas each scored in the 3rd period as Carolina rallied from a 2-0 deficit after 40 minutes. Ghost, who notched his 3rd power play goal of the season, has now scored in 4 straight games. Necas' 2nd of the year tied the game with 6 1/2 minutes to play in regulation. Oh, and Frederik Andersen was spectacular in net. 33 saves for his 18th career win over the Oilers. He's 18-2-2 lifetime against them.
The Canes scored twice on the power play, were perfect on the penalty kill and got solid goaltending from Frederik Andersen in a convincing win over the Penguins. Sixty four seconds after Drew O'Connor gave the Pens a 1-0 lead, Carolina rookie Jackson Blake brought the Canes even with his second goal of the season. Martin Necas and Shayne Gostisbehere scored power play goals - Carolina's first two of the season - and Jack Roslovic's first goal of the season closed out the scoring.
