The Independent Electoral Commission has amended its elections timetable and will reopen the councillor candidate list submittion process for the local government elections. Some opposition parties have decided to legally oppose this decision by the IEC. Nghamula Chauke had a discussion with IEC Limpopo Electoral Officer Nkaro Mateta and Legal Expert Mpumelelo Zikalala about these latest developments.

The South African Insurance Associations says there are a set of rules that are designed to ensure that policyholder’s or potential policyholder’s interests are protected when transacting with the non-life or short-term insurance products. SAIA's Mosidi Shomang says the rules detail how insurance company should treat policyholders, product design and rights that policyholders have when purchasing and these rules are legislated as part of the Short-term Insurance Act No: 53 of 1998 under section 55.

The Limpopo MEC for the health department, Dr Phophi Ramathuba says they are engaging liquor retailers in the province to work together in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. She says their move is from the realization that the liquor and entertainment industries are the first ones to be impacted by lockdowns. Dr Phophi Ramathuba told Nghamula Chauke that they want the industry to help them but there are no laws to enforce a ban of sale of alcohol to unvaccinated customers.

The former CEO of the Lepelle Nothern Water Board Phineas Legodi has disputed claims by the new chairperson of Lepelle Northern Water Board Dr Ndweleni Mphephu that the new board has already achieved a clean audit as an indication of the board already turning things around. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, Legodi said credit should be given to the board he reported to and this audit outcome is a result of their hardwork.

Limpopo Progressive Women Movement is calling for the ANC Provincial Executive Committe to give a chance to a politically capable woman to be at the helm of the Polokwane Municipality. The Co-ordinator of the movement Nomonde Sivhabu told Nghamula Chauke that they are unhappy with talks that the ANC Peter Mokaba region is pushing for a man to take over the reins at the municipality, to replace the redeployed former Executive Mayor Thembi Simelane-Nkadimeng.

The Socio-Economic Rights Institute says it is disappointed in the manner in which the government is treating the families of the Marikana massacre victims. The institute says 9 years later, the government has failed to reach out to the families where the widows of the men who were murdered are still living in abject poverty. SERI Candidate Attorney Khuselwa Dyantyi spoke to Nghamula Chauke regarding the commemorations of the Marikana massacre and this is what she had to say.

Political Analyst Professor Tinyiko Maluleke says little has been done by the government to honor and celebrate the legacy of Charlotte Mannya Maxeke who was the first black woman in South Africa to graduate with a B.sc university degree. Prof Maluleke says there are no T-shirts that bears Maxeke's face yet even in death she continues to inspire hope and confidence in the lives of many people, in particular black women. Constitutional Law Expert and Author Lwando Xaso spoke to Nghamula Chauke abut the importance of understanding matters pertaining to the constitution and how the law works. She said she is embarrassed by young people’s views on legal matters and most of them were exposed during that time when the Constitutional Court imposed a 15-month prison sentence on Former President Jacob Zuma for the contempt of court.

Political analyst Professor Barry Hanyane from North-west University says he concurs with recommendations by the Former deputy chief justice Dikgang Moseneke that the Local Government elections which were supposed to be held in October this year be postponed to February next year, when there will be a likelihood that a lot of people will be vaccinated by then.

Political analyst and former Minister of Science and Technology Dr Mosibudi Mangena says besides talks that these ongoing protests mainly in KZN and Gauteng are driven by politics, they are also as a result of the forgotten masses on the ground by the government of today. He said young people are hungry and hopeless because they feel neglected and forgotten. Mangena is urging government leaders to go back to basics and remind themselves of why they are in power.
