I Want Wendell and Anne to Pay for Don’s Disappearance

I wrote this to Rob Eddy, Esquire

 

Dear Bob and Craig;  Re: Wendell Williams

 

We located and recovered the dump truck Wendell stole last night in Clair Mel City at a house titled to his daughter where he was doing some remodeling.  The Sheriff’s Departments sent out two cars, including Deputy Hart, to keep Wendell off of Kenny and the wrecker driver from Stepps.  Wendell told the police that Don’s secretary (Anne McQueen) had issued him a ten day tag to drive it on and that she had the signed documents where Don sold it to Wendell and Wendell said he was still paying for it.  When I arrived on the scene at 9:00 p.m. with the original title signed over to United Trailer Sales, the Letters of Conservatorship and the Corporate documents showing that I am the President of United Trailer Sales, then Wendell all of a sudden couldn’t produce any paperwork that backed up his claim.  I know it doesn’t exist and I can just hope that he produces some phony document, involving Anne McQueen and I’ll nail them both. 

 

Because he alleges to be in the process of buying the truck, the County Police would not take him to jail but they said they would forward their report to the City Police, where the claim was filed and that he could be imprisoned through the Tampa City Police.  When I filed the case with Tampa PD, I told them Wendell had stolen the truck and they did go interview him, but I don’t know what he told them.  Obviously he did not tell them where the truck was or that he had it.  I am not typically a vindictive person, but this may be the only jail time this man ever does for what he did to my husband. 

 

That is why I want to see Anne in jail for embezzlement.  She and Wendell may have gotten away with doing harm to Don but they haven’t escaped all of their treacherous deeds.  I want what little justice Don and I may ever see from this whole ordeal.  The tow cost me $350.00, the reward $500.00 and the truck is now not running and has several flat tires.  For the Animals, Carole Lewis

Ty Serval Escapes

Ty Serval arrived today and promptly escaped. His previous owners had become worried that Ty, who has all of his claws, would harm their young children. The breeder had told them that if they raised Ty with their infant son they would bond forever. By the time Ty was three, the boy was still a toddler and Ty went after him.

 

The parents had visited Wildlife on Easy Street before and felt that Ty would have a comfortable and happy home here. His owners caught him up in a crab trap and transported him to the sanctuary in the back of their pick up truck. After spending days in the heat, on the open road, he finally arrived. 

 

In the course of trying to release him from the crab trap into his new enclosure he got past us and spent days on the lamb.   Daniel Capiro and Jamie tracked Ty back to the furthermost NW corner of the property.  Night after night they were tracking in the dark and one night looked up to see Ty just watching them. 

 

Now that they had narrowed down the capture area, they set up live traps with food, thinking he just has to be hungry or thirsty.   Nothing tasted as good as his freedom, so that wasn’t working.

 

We tried chasing and netting Ty but servals are fast, great jumpers and that proved unfruitful.  We chased him under one of the semi trailer bodies, up on wheels, that littered the area.  I decided I wasn’t going to chase this cat every day forever across 40 acres so we brought cage panels to the area and built a cage around the bottom to confine him.  We created a smaller space, with food and water, so we could lure him into that area and close him in.  It was our longest recapture effort but worth it as we got him in the end.

Letter to Attorney detailing Don’s recent history and mine

When I was originally looking for counsel last September I had spoken with Mr. Hearn but never met with him personally.  I wish I had.  Instead I chose a firm where I knew someone and eight months later I was in worse shape than when it all began.  Enclosed are the letters that resulted in my Attorney quitting, so that you will know what I want in representation up front.  I went back to interview Steve Hearn, Esq. last week and he said that my opposition had come to him and that as a result, he could not represent either of us.

 

I have already consulted with Al Cazin (the second husband to Debbie Ponton.  Her previous husband was Gene Holloway who owned the Sea Wolf restaurant and faked his own death for the insurance.  Debbie is an exotic cat owner with a pet black leopard.  Her brother, Lance Ponton, later became a substantial donor to our sanctuary in his business name of Cordoba) and Fletcher Belcher who both said that they think this case would be too difficult and time consuming for them to take on.

 

I want dedication.  I want someone who is interested in doing what is right and not just lining their pockets.  I want someone who knows the law and knows what they are doing. In this present case I am involved in, the children of my missing husband, by a former marriage were afraid that their dad was spending all of their inheritance on caring for the 200 animals that we have here at WildLife on Easy Street.  They sided with their mother to accuse their dad of dealing dishonestly with his wife during their divorce in 1989.

 

In court, the girls, who were all book keepers for Don until our marriage, said that their father had hidden assets from their mother and that he was worth much more than he represented to her and that therefore she was entitled to another million dollars.  She had asked for the divorce when she fell in love with another man and she had told Don she wanted a million dollars and no contest and Don complied.  We waited over a year to be sure she would be happy in her new marriage before Don and I were wed 10/10/91.  When we married I set up a Trust for Don’s children for all of his assets that were his alone.   Four years later Don’s ex-wife had run out of money and with the help of her daughters sued Don for more.

 

Don has an adopted son who spends most of his time in jail and drug rehab and Don had disowned him in 1992.  When his daughters did this to him he disowned them and had barely spoken to them in two years.  Don and I have been working in real estate together since 1981 and I have done his evictions, foreclosures, quiet title suits and replevins since 1987.

 

I’ve completed 84 Circuit Civil cases in Hillsborough County alone.  I am not an attorney.  In fact I only have a tenth grade education, but I study other people’s work and then piece together from the best work I find.  Don and I began WildLife on Easy Street in 1992 because we wanted to give back something for all that God has given us.  When we modified our Trusts in 1995 we added to the successor beneficiaries WildLife on Easy Street so that when we both died the sanctuary would always be well funded.  By this time Don didn’t want anything to do with any of his children nor his ex-wife so he removed them as successor beneficiaries from all of the trusts, except for the  PSRL Trust that I had originally set up for them in 1992.

 

In September 1996 Don asked me to dissolve the children’s trust because he didn’t want anything going to the people who had lied about him for money.  I did not dissolve their trust, nor amend it, because I was raised with strong family values and believed that Don would get over it one day.  He asked me several times to write them out of his Will.  Because he was so against lawyers he didn’t want any part of his money going to probate attorneys so his Will was a very simple document that basically shifted all assets to the Trusts.  Each

Now that you have had a little time to familiarize yourself with this case, I’d like to ask your opinion on a few things.

 

1.  Clifford Opp gave us ten days to file the accounting that was due the end of December.  I believe it expires this week.  I didn’t get a copy.  I had everything done and in the accountant’s hand (chosen by Stalley, the other conservator) by the second week of January for our year end tax returns.  I learned mid April that he hadn’t done anything with it and in fact, still has not filed a return for me.  I have had several meetings with Debra Boje, Doug Stalley, Ben Morris and my mother, Barbara Stairs to try and put together an accounting for the court.  It is a nightmare.  We gave up on Boje, Stalley and Morris and hired an accountant who is familiar with real estate of the type in which I deal and they have been working on if for two weeks.  Mary Wutschel asked that I get an extension good through June 10 at which time she says she can have the early accounting done and the first quarter of 1998.  It wouldn’t be such a mess, except for the fact that the estate is divided into five entities and each one has to be accounted for separately, but as more information is gathered, things get moved from one entity to another and the money trail that went with it then has to be transferred, in order to correct the inventory.  Stalley suggest filing it wrong and amending, but I see that as an opportunity to spend a lot of time defending the changes in court and that is an unnecessary expense.  I don’t want to get the court upset thinking that I am just ignoring the original Order, so I was wondering if we should file for an extension based on these unusual circumstances?  What do you need from me in order to do that?

2. The mall developer up the road from me offered to give Wildlife on Easy Street, Inc., a pile of dirt that has a retail value of 5 million, but I have to pay trucks to haul it at a cost of $250,000.00.  Wendell Williams, a former “partner” of my husband’s stole our dump truck last January.  I gave him several opportunities to return in and then threatened to turn it over to the police.  He told me he took the truck and was using it in Gibsonton, but that he would not give it back because it was a gift from Don to him.  It was an 8,000.00 1978 Brockway and my husband wouldn’t give someone change for the phone, much less a truck we use all the time.  I filed a police report, but never found the truck.  Wendell told me “it wouldn’t be good for my health” to try and recover any of the equipment he took in Don’s absence.  I don’t even know what else he has other than a pressure washer and a concrete saw.  I have had two people in addition to myself, scouring Gibsonton to no avail.  Do I have any legal recourse?  If he says, as he did to me, that it was a gift, then where did he claim it on his tax return?  If he says he doesn’t know anything about it, then I don’t suppose there is anything I can do.  It was parked in a lot I own next door to his office when it disappeared.  He has both his building and mine fenced, with guard dogs.  I can’t even get into my building at 4813 N. Westshore Boulevard.

3. As for Anne McQueen:  She has been the most costly party in this suit to me, as she is continuously filing demands to which my attorneys have had to respond.  Her latest is to call up for a hearing my Motion in Objection to her attorney’s fees being awarded.  It is set to be heard on June 29.  As we discussed, I wish to pull my assets out of the conservatorship and will get some fight from the kids, but expect the majority of the litigation to come from Anne’s protests.  I would like to remove her from the conservatorship first, so that I don’t have to pay you and her attorney to battle out something that is none of her business.  I will lose more by trying to pull out while Anne can still give me so much grief.  As you may recall, getting Anne out of the picture may be a little complicated.

I was really under fire now as the inventory was due and so was the accounting not to mention all of our state and federal tax reporting obligations. For the first time in the history of our company reports were made on time to the IRS. Before February all year end reports were delivered to the Accountant for the 1997 tax return. He had just completed the 1996 return. Never before (14 years) had we been able to file on time but this year if the Co-Conservator’s Accountant did his job, our taxes would be filed on time. 5/13 : He didn’t get his part done and it is still on his desk. Gave Sheriff’s Access to Don’s Medical Records I responded to a request from the Sheriff’s office to give them access to Don’s medical and dental records in case #97-069358 MP#97m01800 I was told the information would be included in the Florida Crime Information Center’s computer records for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Note from 7/26/2020 I just assumed the police already had access to all of Don’s medical records because they were the police. On 9/6/1997 I had faxed them all of the info about Don going to medical and psychiatric doctors in June 1997. Here we were, 8 months after I gave them that, and they were just now asking for authority to access the records? Maybe it was because of the guy found floating in the gulf more than 2 weeks ago that made them think of it? Now I’m wondering if they ever spoke to the doctors, and if they did, then did they follow up on the MRI that had been prescribed? Or the results? I never knew the results and would sure like to. There was a hearing before Judge Nick Ficarrotta on Freeman and Boje’s fees and on the Co-Conservator’s fees and his attorney’s fees, all of which I consented to and no one came in opposition to the hearing, so they were granted.  When I got home today there was a Notice of Taking Deposition scheduling me for May 28 by LeRoy Merkle.  I called his office to reschedule as I will be at a cat care seminar in Nevada from May 26 until the 31st, but LeRoy Merkle says it cannot be rescheduled.  I have already paid for the seminar and the airfare and hotel accommodations and cannot cancel.

Body Sounds Like Don in Manatee County

Letter written by my mother and faxed to Detectives Lingo and Fernandez on 4/27/1998.

 

RE: Jack Donald Lewis Case #97-069358

 

Dear Detectives:

 

Carole Lewis has asked that I send you a copy of the article in today’s Tampa Tribune.  I called the Manatee Sheriff’s Office and they said that although all missing-person cases are checked by computer, it would be best to have you confirm that this case was also included.

 

I don’t know if you were told or not, but Jack Donald Lewis has two 6” steel or titanium pins holding his jaws together from surgery done from a previous plane accident.  The evidence to us looks as though Don Lewis was trying to fly a cat from Tampa to Texas.  We know the man in Texas called several days later and asked why Don wasn’t there with the cat he had promised to bring him.  Since Don disappeared in mid-August, this is not likely to be him but we would appreciate your checking out the below article and letting Carole Lewis know.

 

Also she has requested a copy of the missing-person report.  She has never received one.  Please let us know if you need any additional information.

MANATEE  Coast Guard Recovers Body Bradenton:

 

Manatee County sheriff’s deputies are trying to identify a body found floating more than 30 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico.  A sport fishing boat captain radioed the Coast Guard shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday that he had come upon a body floating 32 miles west of Longboat Pass.

 

The Coast Guard sent a boat to the location and recovered the body of a white male.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office at (941) 747-3011 or CrimeStoppers at (941) 77-COPS.

Infra Red Laser Scope Light

 

Jamie told me tonight, that last night she and Daniel Capiro were driving home and she saw a red light flicker across the dash board.  About five minutes later, out of the corner of her eye, she saw it again, but just assumed they were passing something that was reflecting red.  The third time, Daniel Capiro asked Jamie if she saw the red light flicker on the dash board.

 

Looking around they could see nothing that would cause the red light, so they both stared intently at the dash for another five minutes or so and then they saw the light, moving erratically and then fixed, a single pinpoint of light.  Jamie wasn’t driving and spun around to see an older man, with a beard and glasses, driving a dark expensive sedan, “like a Lincoln” who was smirking at her.

 

Immediately she ducked and stayed down while she told Daniel Capiro to floor it.  She said they thought better of it and decided to pull over and see if he would pass them so they could get his tag number, but he must have turned after they took off, because he never did pass where they had pulled off.  If the car had been driven by youngsters I would have thought it to be a pointer pen light gag, but an older person in an expensive car could better afford an infrared scope.

 

I told her to be extra careful but not paranoid, because I would most likely be next in line.   I explained to her that if someone is trying to upset her they could easily push her into hurting herself, as in trying to escape on a dark road at night, and not put themselves in any danger.  There’s no law against having a pen light in your pocket.  I urged her to keep her wits about her.   As long as I’m breathing she would be a risk, not worth taking.  I did tell her if anything happens to me to get out of town.

 

As for Richard Dery, I don’t know quite what to make of that.  Gary (everyone calls him Crazy Gary) was telling me tonight about some silly listening device he’s working on made from a batman toy and a salad dish whereby he insists I could stand at food prep and count the breaths the lion takes across the lake.  I may ask to borrow the thing and see if Dad can set up somewhere in the yard to effectively listen in to Dery and I if he insists on dragging me out into the middle of the parking lot to talk.

 

When Richard Dery left us he went to work for Don’s ex-girlfriend Pamela Enriquez, who boasts of being a witch.  I have never trusted him due to his close association with her.  Even Crazy Gary I don’t trust (not just because he looks like Don) but because he has been here every day since the week Don left and he’s always saying stuff that sounds like he knows more than what he pretends.  This listening thing for instance:  How did he know I would have any use in such a thing?

 

A few weeks ago he was telling me about these infra red scopes and silencers so quiet that he says you could kill somebody in an elevator full of people and no one would know until the crowd disbursed and the body fell.  I vacillate between thinking he’s very ingenious and very weird.  He’ll go from talking about all of his own little house cats and their favorite pastimes and launch into an excited explanation of the theory of relativity and converting atoms into who knows what, complete with diagrams on the food prep chalk board to constructing models out of chicken pieces.  I asked Jamie if there was any way the man who they saw that night could have been Crazy Gary in disguise but she was sure it wasn’t.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

 

Laboratory equipment including steroids microscope, light table, lighted magnifiers, LeeTEK machine, grids and gauges were used to examine the documents.  A stroke and letter comparison was made.  Based upon reasonable scientific certainty, it is my opinion that:

 

The handwritten Jack Donald Lewis signatures identified in Q-1 through Q-3 and the Jack Donald Lewis / Don Lewis signatures identified on S-1 through S-21 were written by the same person. 

 

Previously on 11/1/1997 Peter Candler, FACFE of Mark Write, Inc.,  also stated after examining the same documents that:

 

It is our unqualified opinion that the questioned signatures of Jack Donald Lewis as they appear on the Questioned Documents Number 1, 2 and 3 above are genuine.

Don at Albertson’s 11 Days After Disappearance

Letter faxed to Detectives Lingo and Fernandez:

 

I was eating breakfast at Denny’s (corner of Hillsborough and Memorial Hwy. in Town N Country) and the waitress, Lisa Stoll (884-9359) told me she saw my husband on August 29, 1997 which would have been eleven days after his disappearance.  She said she was sure of the date because she had moved to her new home then.  She claims to have seen him at the Albertson’s across from this same Denny’s and that he was picking up photographs he had developed there and was showing her pictures of his cats.  He gave her a brochure and told her to come visit him there.  She said she recognized him at Albertson’s because she had been his waitress at Denny’s but Don and I ate there together frequently and it seems a little weird that although I still eat there all the time, she just now has recognized me as his wife. 

 

I had given Don several of the little disposable cameras to use in Costa Rica, but never knew him to develop his own photos.  He would always bring the camera to me and I would take it to K Mart.  He was showing Lisa the pictures and they were cats (not prostitutes) so I don’t know why he might be hiding these particular photos from me. 

 

The brochure that Don would’ve given her to Easy Street had a map to here and our phone number.  If Don knew who he was while he was speaking to her and had a map to his house, and was coherent enough to be developing photos, he should have been able to find his way home. If he was hiding it would have been pretty stupid to tell someone his name, give them directions to his house and invite them over.  Lisa said she lost the brochure and that she did not know who she should tell about her encounter.  It seems a little flawed but it is the only “positive” siting of which I have been told. 

 

Goodness knows I’ve nearly wrecked the car countless times because I thought I saw Don somewhere and was trying to get a better look.  I am sure that she would be happy to tell you all about her encounter.  I wish she had called you or recognized me last August.  P.S.
