The question of whether or not God favors men over women is a crucial one. The thorny issue of women being undervalued, devalued, oppressed, or in bondage in masculine-favored societies over the ages is ongoing, if less overt. The pain is real and particularly difficult if it looks like God is for it on any level. The Old Testament of the Bible truly reflects societies where this was simply not questioned. The difficult passages regarding women in the New Testament and how they have been handled poorly and filtered through faulty lenses do need to be addressed. He defined loving one another as laying down our lives for one another. God meant us to serve from the freedom of love, which brings joy and fulfillment. It is the cure for the trap of depressing self-absorption that counters our original design. How do we get there?
