A disturbing moment, during an otherwise-joyful Oscars ceremony last night -- when actor Will Smith jumped on stage and slapped comedian Chris Rock -- after a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Smith then returned to his seat, but continued to shout at Rock, appearing to be very angry. A short time later, Smith won the Best Actor Oscar for the film "King Richard" -- and gave an emotional speech, in which he seemed to defend his actions. Many people are asking what President Biden meant when he said Russia's president "cannot remain in power." The president ad-libbed that remark during a speech in Poland on Saturday, where he met with Ukrainian refugees. Mr. Biden and other officials say he did not mean to call for regime change in Moscow. Fighting continued through the weekend, with Russia focusing most on capturing territory in eastern Ukraine, including the devastated city of Mariupol.

Aviation officials confirm a Boeing 737 passenger jet, carrying 132 people for China Eastern airlines, has gone down in a mountainous area in the south of the country. At least six people were killed in this Russian attack on a shopping mall in Kyiv -- the latest of many acts of violence which appear to be targeting civilians. In the hard-hit city of Mariupol, hundreds of miles southeast of the capital, Russia offered to let civilians escape if Ukraine would let it take over the city. Ukraine's government said no. The U.S. Supreme Court says Justice Clarence Thomas is in the hospital, but should be released in the next few days. The court says the 73-year-old was experiencing flu-like symptoms. The Senate begins hearings this morning to consider Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's nomination to the Supreme Court. Now to some *wild games* from the first weekend of march madness. Top seed Arizona nearly got an early ticket home before beating Texas Christian. Other teams were not so lucky.

Russian missiles hit a new target in western Ukraine -- as the U.S. warns that Vladimir Putin could be preparing to use chemical weapons. This morning, President Biden has been speaking with Chinese President Xi Jinping about the war. Russia has asked China for military aid -- but the U.S. has warned Beijing there will be tough consequences if it says yes. Authorities say a 13-year-old was driving the pick-up truck that collided with the van carrying the athletes on Tuesday. Now to the men's NCAA tournament, multiple games came down to the final seconds -- and a lot of people's brackets are already busted. But the biggest surprise was an overtime win, by a small school from New Jersey.
