An alarming situation in Poland, our NATO ally, where a missile landed in a village, killing two people. It happened just across Ukraine's border, after Russia's biggest missile barrage of the war caused heavy damage across Ukraine. Poland's president said it appears to be a quote "unfortunate accident," and President Biden says it's very possible that the missile came from Ukraine. At the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia, President Biden rounded up other world leaders overnight to discuss the missile explosion in Poland. After spending the last two years claiming the 2020 election was stolen from him, former President Trump is officially ready for 2024. Last night, he announced he's running to get back into the White House, despite a number of legal troubles, and just days after a disastrous midterm where many of his endorsed candidates were defeated. CBS News now estimates Republicans are one seat away from winning the 218 seats needed for a slim majority in the House, after failing to take over the Senate. Both of the top GOP leaders on Capitol Hill, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, are facing challenges from within their party.

He's been telling allies he plans to move forward, despite taking some heat within the GOP over disappointing results in the midterms. Russia's war on Ukraine dominated today's G20 Summit talks. President Biden is meeting with other world leaders in Indonesia. Delegates discussed whether Ukraine should seek a peace deal. The University of Virginia says all three students who were shot to death Sunday night played for the school's football team. Police allege they were killed by a fellow student and former player, who was arrested yesterday after an hours-long manhunt. Four students at the University of Idaho have been killed, in what the local mayor calls a "crime of passion." police are treating this as a homicide case, but are saying little else about the investigation. Protests against the Islamic regime in Iran have been going on for weeks and the government is still trying to crack down. It has confirmed the first death sentence for a protester, someone accused of setting fire to a government building.

A landmark meeting between two of the world's most powerful leaders, President Biden and China's President Xi Jinping. They spoke for about three hours in Indonesia this morning, ahead of the upcoming G20 summit. U.S. officials say the discussion ranged from Taiwan's future to Russia's war in Ukraine and the leaders agreed to work together. Ukraine's president made a surprise visit to a key city just freed from Russian troops. Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Kherson this morning and spoke to soldiers and civilians, calling the liberation "the beginning of the end of the war." We now know who will control the U.S. Senate for the next two years. After a lengthy vote count, CBS News projects Senator Catherine Cortez Masto was re-elected in Nevada. That gives Democrats and their independent allies at least 50 seats, enough to keep control with a potential tie-breaking vote from Vice President Kamala Harris. Control of the House remains unclear, with fewer than a dozen seats still undecided. Breaking news from the University of Virginia, where officials say a gunman who killed three people is on the loose. The shooting happened late last night on the campus in Charlottesville, Virginia. Police are searching for a student who authorities believe pulled the trigger. Investigators in Texas are trying to find out what caused two vintage military aircraft to collide mid-air and plunge to the ground at an air show. Six people on board the planes were killed Saturday.

Florida hit by another hurricane overnight. Hurricane Nicole made landfall on the Atlantic coast, near Vero Beach early this morning. It later weakened to a tropical storm. Florida is still recovering from Hurricane Ian. We're still waiting for results in three key senate races this morning that could determine control of Congress. In Nevada, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto trails her Republican challenger Adam Laxalt, but she is gaining on him, as more votes are counted. In Arizona, Senator Mark Kelly's lead has grown over his Republican challenger, Blake Masters. While in Georgia, Senator Raphael Warnock and Herschel Walker are headed to a runoff in December after neither got above 50 percent. Meta, parent company of Facebook, sent e-mails to 11,000 employees yesterday, telling them they no longer have jobs. Meta joins more than 30 other tech companies that have laid off employees this month alone. Russia says it is pulling out of a key region in the south of Ukraine. The military says it is withdrawing from Kherson, a move seen as a huge defeat for President Vladimir Putin. Putin annexed the region in September, making it part of Russia.

A big surprise in the midterm election results so far, we're not seeing the GOP surge that many Republicans had forecast. With five races still to call, it's unclear who will control the Senate. Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin, Georgia and Alaska still don't have a winner. Control of the House is leaning Republican, but only barely. Democrats, overall, are doing much better than expected. Incumbent Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto is trailing Republican challenger Adam Laxalt, but there are still a lot of votes left to count. A series of big wins for Republicans in Florida. Governor Ron DeSantis sailed to victory in his re-election campaign, beating former Governor Charlie Crist. In his victory speech last night, DeSantis thanked a long list of supporters, but he did not mention Donald Trump. The former president watched the results at his Mar-a-Lago resort and called it "a great evening," but he also tried to warn the governor against running again anytime soon.
