“Drag is how you perform gender for people to see and understand. If you’ve confused them, that’s even better!” /
In Part 1 of this episode on gender bending performance art, Anteus Mathieu, aka C'etait Bontemps, discusses growing up in Florida watching RuPaul's Drag Race and going to gay clubs, and how burlesque helped him get in touch with his transmasculine identity. He opens up about how his community was affected by the Pulse nightclub massacre, and how his dysphoria relates to the ways his body is perceived sexually onstage.
Stay tuned for Part Two later this month when Matthew describes his drag routines and digs into the complex implications of folks who are turned on by cross dressing. /
Anteus Mathieu, aka C'etait Bontemps, is a Non-binary drag and burlesque performer living in Brooklyn! A Florida transplant, he has been working in nightlife for 6 years. His brand of drag melds the worlds of feminine and masculine performance in both sexy and sometimes uncomfortable ways. His goal is to push the boundaries of drag and burlesque as performance artistry to explore gender identity, sexual agency, and just plain weird shit.
