It’s King Joffrey’s nameday! He celebrates by being cruel and unpleasant. Sansa saves the hapless Ser Dontos Hollard with a little help from the Hound. The celebration is curtailed by the arrival of Tyrion with his mountain tribes. Simon and Mac join the festivities.

Chapter Review:
Sansa is escorted by Ser Arys Oakheart to the tourney for Joffrey’s name day. En route, they speculate as to the meaning of the red comet that dominates the sky. The tourney is a pale shadow of Ned’s tourney a few months earlier. The royal family is confined to the Red Keep for safety and so it’s held in the small outer bailey. Since many of the noble houses are now in open or covert rebellion, the list of participants is also much diminished.

The feeble jousts are enlivened by drunken Ser Dontos Hollard’s arrival, sans pants and sans horse. Joffrey aims to kill him for sport but Sansa saves Hollard’s skin with a bit of quick thinking, oddly backed-up by Sandor Clegane. Ser Dontos is pegged as Joffrey’s new fool.

Tyrion arrives with his mountain clans. He gives Joffrey some grief and offers and receives apologies from Sansa for the behavior of their respective families. Sansa is touched by his kindness, but reminds herself that he’s still a Lannister, they’re good at appearing kind.

Sansa Stark - Eldest daughter of Lord Eddard Stark and Catelyn Tully. Betrothed to Joffrey Baratheon. Captive of the Lannisters.
Queen Cersei Lannister - Widow of King Robert Baratheon, twin sister of Ser Jamie Lannister. Mother of King Joffrey Baratheon.
King Joffrey Baratheon - Bastard son of Jaime Lannister and his twin sister Queen Cersei Lannister. Currently King Joffrey Baratheon, First of His Name.
Ser Arys Oakheart - Member of the Kingsguard, in King’s Landing.
Sandor Clegane - The Hound. Prince Joffrey's personal protector and now member of the Kingsguard.
Tyrion Lannister - Youngest son of Tywin Lannister. Brother to Queen Cersei and Jamie Lannister.
Bronn - A sellsword who fought and won Tyrion’s trial by combat. Now Tyrion’s friend and bodyguard.
Timett son of Timett - Member of the Burned Men clan from the Mountains of the Moon. Confederate/captor of Tyrion Lannister.
Catelyn Stark - Lady of Winterfell. Wife of Lord Eddard Star
