Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 527 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - The most important electric guitar performance ever? Also New Guitar Day!

Brian teases a "special private show" and Richard discovers something about his American brethren and it has upset him - but then a lot has this week. More importantly Brian has a brand new guitar! He tells us all about it and some of the unexpected features it has and the guys notice a special twinkle in Brian's eye. Brian also said something outrageous about a classic Fender design and Richard is disturbed. 

On the 55th anniversary of the Woodstock festival, Richard got a chance to re-watch that infamous Jimi Hendrix performance, and he has views which the guys debate. He also managed to learn something from the master of the Stratocaster and is very proud of himself. Brian also has learned something new - about Pink Floyd - and admits to being a foolish individual and there is talk of school-day shenanigans. Blake has issues. 

Blake has a very special Metalzone and he tells us all about it and the guys talk about pedal naming schema before getting defeated by a classic pedal name. Brian is expanding his barn and Richard has a new pedal which he thinks is one of the most fun pedals ever. Do fancy IEC cables make a difference to your amps tone? He is the new CEO at Guitar Center and he has probably seen more amazing string, valve, and transistor based toys than most of us can dream of. Gabe tells us about his music tastes, his writing, and his gigging experiences before he reveals that he is in fact a complete gear nut just like all of us! This turns into a fascinating insight into how Gabe has not just analysed the business he runs, but has lived and breathed Guitar Center since he joined it, and created a vision for a ground up rejuvenation of this retail behemoth. 

We get a very candid and thoughtful appraisal of the business model of Guitar Center to date and then a glimpse of where it is going and how giant pedalboards will play a role. If you are interested in the music instrument business, heck if you are interested in musical instruments full stop, then this episode does not disappoint. Brian and Blake have some good ideas. Richard makes another Gilmour mistake when he mixes up one guitar with another.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 525 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Sometimes the right song at the right time can impact you like nothing else...

Blake has been blessed with luck in the form of his son's predictive skills and so is immediately buying a lottery ticket. There have been other pedals released with Germanium components within and this also sparks some conversation. Those pioneers of pedal perfection, Electro Harmonix, have released a new POG. It looks insanely good so the guys talk about it and Richard makes a terrible Dad joke. 

Blake has a new vintage Gibson guitar acquisition and the guys dig in and discuss some of the electronic quirks and features. Richard wants a new guitar but he has a problem and tells us all about it. Aerosmith have announced the end of their touring career and this almost provokes a sensible discussion. Richard admits his awe for Hendrix. 

Brian has a proud Dad moment when one of his children makes a music based confession and it has made him very happy. This morphs into a conversation about the pull of music and how people have different emotional levels of involvement with it. Meanwhile, back on planet gear, Neural DSP have revealed details of the robotic device they created to capture amplifier settings more accurately.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 524 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Mine some more Germanium!   

Well it has been a week! We check in with the guys post the release of the Germanium Tumnus Deluxe and it's fair to say that said pedal is the main subject matter of the episode. We told everyone it was coming. It made no difference! The pedal sold out in record time and it caused some website availability issues and Richard and Brian talk about how they got through a crazy week. 

The guys recall other pedal special editions and Brian gives away some personal secrets before returning to the topic du jour. Richard details some of the server shenanigans and also talks about how stock levels are managed. Blake calls both Richard and Brian names, but they are pretty hardened to it, and gives some interesting statistical analysis of the music industry. 
 
There was predictably an almost immediate response by professional flippers so the guys are also duty bound to look into this. Richard got hold of another new pedal and gets the name wrong but he loves it and that's all that matters. It is the boost he has been looking for so he tells us all...

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 523 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - A new pedal and we broke the internet again...

Picture the scene. It is a beautiful summer Tuesday night. The guys are chatting away merrily about a load of random nonsense. Brian and Richard are joined by Ryan Burke for Episode 522 of the Chasing Tone Podcast

Blake is out of town on string business so the guys are joined by Ryan Burke of 60 Cycle hum and his haunted mannequin...yes, you read that correct. This naturally means there is some offset guitar insight - 'offsight' if you will - and Ryan has great advice for anyone weighing up their options. 

Do you collect pedals as an investment? The guys chat about the ramifications of where the collectable pedal market is going and then of course try to accurately predict the future and along the way they invent a new form of musical currency. Richard has a pedal related confession to make and Brian is thinking about Germanium hearing aids.

Ryan has a box full of Afford-a-board pedals and tells us about some of the fun discoveries he has made. Richard has been away on his vacation and has some tales to tell, but starts off with a debate about vinyl collecting...Meanwhile Brian has been on a live-stream with the intellectual giants behind Two notes and Neural Amp Modeler. He has a good case from why Amp Modeling could be a great tool for all gigging musicians.

Brian has a brilliant business idea based on his compressor woes and shares his genius ideas with us all. Meanwhile Fender have launched their new Player II range of guitars and our good buddy Travis Feaster got to be part of the launch so we talk about that before looking at some more band practice woes.

Blake ducks out early because apparently he like his job, so Brian and Richard fumble on through the subjects...and Brian becomes audibly aroused at a new Gibson special edition.  This turns into a discussion about how good quality guitar gear is so much more affordable these days and then Richard inadvertently gives Brian a new idea and immediately regrets it. Brian then invents the greatest app ever.

Our glorious leader has reached a milestone birthday and the chaps kick off by looking back at the Roast video that the team at Wampler put together for him. Richard notes an interesting horological coincidence and Brian gives us his views on aging. In a twist of pure Irony, Brian is struggling to find a compressor, and the guys listen to his tales of woe.

Have you got any Tube based drive pedals? In a bizarre twist of fate Brian has decide to educate Richard on the best way to get the "Classic" David Gilmour tone and there is some ill advised political commentary as Richard reviews a recent piece of marketing from a political party. Blake has had some unexpected musical adventures and tells us all about it.

Richard has taken delivery of a lifetime's supply of spices and Brian has a request. He also went to see Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets with his schoolfriend and gave pedals to the band. This leads onto a discussion about a very high end delay pedal that commands a premium price. There is a very scary AI credit read from RoboBrian.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 519 of the Chasing Tone Podcast
 
Ai has finally gone to far and we have an Ai version of Brian and it causes some emotional distress. Brian also has a rubber device. Richard tells us about his first experience with IRs and IEMs in a band practice scenario. It was a a partial success. Richard also has purchased new gear, has learned some important new lessons, and Brian continues to hellishly rebuke him.

We've had some really interesting suggestions for 1980's themed shredding guitars and Richard talks about some of the candidates and it provokes reactions from Brian. Brian then makes some gangland confessions. There's a new Fender artist Telecaster and it has caught the guys' attention so they talk about it before revealing some interesting statistical facts about Brian;'s pedalbuilding career. 

What do you think about companies that make completely identical pedals to the original they're based on? There was a release this week that was close to home and the guys all have reactions. David Gilmour released a new track and Richard is a big fan. Take a shot. The guys had a message from the listeners about modern Country music and have some suggestions for artists to listen to.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 518 of the Chasing Tone Podcast
 
Blake has been standing to work for a long time and it is energizing him so the guys discuss the merits of office furniture. Yes, you read that correctly.  This turns into a conversation about how you apply Tolex correctly as Richard thinks about building his own amplifier.  Do you wait before you switch on the stand-by switch on your amplifier? The guys ponder this age old question.

Richard invokes a hellish rebuke from Brian when he tries to convince him that MIDI is the future for amplifier control and a robust and bizarre conversation ensues.  Richard has been thinking about digital modelling and Brian is not happy with him, but he and Blake also have some new gear and it somehow involves the Insane Clown Posse.  Richard is also worried about taking his favorite combo amplifier to gigs until his personal amp tech intervenes...

What size pick do you use when you play guitar? This question provokes a variety of responses from the chaps and Brian desires a new sponsorship.  Speaking of Brians, Brian May has just made a not particularly surprising announcement about a collaboration with Gibson. Richard makes bizarre confessions about his follicular obsessions. He is a mean and awful person and tries to explain British humor - badly.
