Yirmiyahu says that at that time, the enemies will remove the bones of the Jewish kings, leaders, and prophets from their graves and set them under the sun and moon which they worship.

He says that death will be preferable to life for the survivors.

Hashem asks him if they are just going to continue to fall and not rise since if they would repent, He would return to them.

He says the problem is that they refuse to repent and they just lie and no one acknowledges that they did something wrong.

He says that the birds know their seasons and times but His people don't know the law of Hashem.

He says that they claim to have Hashem's Torah with them but their quills are for falsehood and their scribes are false.

The wise men have rejected the word of Hashem and make light of the impending disaster by saying “peace, peace” but there is no peace; they don't even have the capacity to feel ashamed and therefore they will fall.

At that time, the people will try to go to fortified cities because they will realize that despite their hopes for peace, He is not helping them because of their sins.

The enemies will come and devour the land and those who dwell in it and Hashem says He is sending venomous serpents against them.

Yirmiyahu says he seeks strength to withstand the sorrow but his heart is sick within him.

He hears the cry of his people asking if Hashem is not with them.

It seems that the suffering doesn't end and he says if only his head would be water and his eyes a spring of tears so that he could cry all day and night for the slain of the daughter of his people.

    ● This prophecy took place at the entrance of the Beis Hamikdash.

    ● Yisrael, change your evil ways!

    ● Don’t put your faith in the actual physical structure of the Beis Hamikdash. The Beis Hamikdash had no inherent power of its own.

    ● Hashem only rests His presence on the Beis Hamikdash when Yisrael is worthy.

    ● If they are not worthy, Hashem won’t rest His presence on the Beis Hamikdash.

    ● If Yisrael would only do what is proper in the eyes of Hashem there would no longer be a threat of destruction.

    ● Hashem tells Yirmiya not to pray on behalf of Yisrael because Yisrael won’t listen.

    ● Hashem will pour out His anger on the residents of Yehudah.

    ● All happiness will cease to exist in Eretz Yisrael.

    ● The Navi addresses Binyomin and prophesies that Hashem will destroy Tzion; the impending destruction will be carried out by Nevuchadnezar.

    ● Yerushalayim is compared to a widow in pain, as foreign soldiers trample her soil.

    ● Corruption has filled the streets of Yerushalayim.

    ● People have become deaf to Hashem’s word. The leaders and laymen are both filled with greed and self-centeredness.

    ● The Navi urges that Yisrael sit and contemplate its unethical ways, put on sack cloth and prepare for destruction.

    ● The nation has rejected Hashem. Therefore Hashem has rejected the nation.

Yirmiyahu speaks in the name of Hashem Who justifies the impending destruction based on their not being justice doers and truth seekers.

Yirmiyahu responds to Hashem and says that he had said to himself that he would speak the leaders and hopefully change things but saw that it was ineffective.

Therefore, he warns, the lion, wolf, and leopard would cause destruction.

He quotes Hashem saying to him that they had forsaken Him despite Him having made them affluent and He asks, "shall I not destroy them for these things?"

He quotes how the people said that no harm would come upon them so Hashem says that He is making His words in the mouth of Yirmiyahu into a fire to consume the people like wood.

He speaks of an enemy nation that will overpower them and that when people wonder why Hashem did that to them, He will say it's because they deserted Him.

He calls to the nation that has eyes but can't see and ears but can't hear and condemns their inability to fear Him.

He notes that they didn't even say in their hearts to fear He Who supplies rain.

He says they pervert justice at the expense of orphans and the poor and are therefore deserving of vengeance.

    ● Yirmiyahu tells Yisrael to do teshuva before it’s too late and to serve Hashem with honesty, whole-heartedness, and sincerity.

    ● He says they should blow shofar and gather, for the “lion has already left its den” (referring to Nevuchadnetzar and Bavel) from up north to turn the land into waste.

    ● Yirmiyahu describes the impending destruction like a strong wind and rising clouds with the swiftness of eagles.

    ● He tells them to cleanse their hearts so that they may be saved and cries out “Mei’ai Mei’ai Ochilah - My innards, my innards, I shudder” at the thought.

    ● He says in Hashem’s name that the nation is foolish and only knows how to do evil.

    ● Yirmiyahu describes the vision before his eyes as if the destruction has already taken place, seeing the desolation and emptiness in the land.

    ● He describes how the heavens and the earth will be darkened and Tzion will scream like a woman in labor.

    ● Yirmiyahu describes that Yisrael had committed adultery with another “woman.”

Radak: Klal Yisrael serving others gods and following their host nations’ ways is considered adultery throughout the entire Tanach.

Yisrael had committed adultery against Hashem (Rashi, Metzudos). But even so, Hashem will still accept their Teshuvah.

    ● Yirmiyahu chastises the members of Yehudah for not learning a lesson from the Northern Kingdom of Yisrael to do Teshuvah before they, too, are exiled from Yerushalayim.

    ● A prophecy about the final redemption:

One by one, family and individuals will begin to return to Eretz Yisrael.

    ● Ingathering of the exiles; the nations of the world will unite to support Eretz Yisrael.

    ● Yisrael and Yehuda will reunite.

    ● The Navi continues to relate how Yisrael had been “unfaithful” to Hashem.

In the end Yisrael will admit their sins.

Hashem tells Yirmiyahu to tell the inhabitants of Yerushalayim that He lovingly remembers their original loyalty when they faithfully followed Him into the desert when they first left Mitzrayim.

He adds that they are therefore kodesh to Him and anyone who tries to devour them will be heavily punished.

However, despite all the goodness He had given them by bringing them into Israel and giving them plenty of food, they, the nation and its leaders (Kohanim, “shepherds,” and neviim), didn’t seek out Hashem and rather rebelled and served the Baal, making Him wonder, kavayachol, what He did wrong.

He is “astounded” that there are nations who will not give up faith in their false gods who don’t provide anything while Klal Yisrael rejects the True G-d in response to the goodness He gives them.

He explains that it’s because of this that they have “suddenly” become prey.

Their rampant idolatry and foolish claims that their idols had created them and their brazenness to claim innocence would result in terrible judgment against them.

They call the wood and stones their parents, having as many gods as they had cities, but then in times of distress wonder why Hashem doesn’t arise and save them.

They rebel against Him, spill the blood of the poor and innocent, and then assume that they are pure and Hashem won’t be angry with them.

They say “Lo Chatasi” and therefore they will be taken to judgment and will be shamed by Mitzrayim (in whom they would try to take refuge) as they were shamed by Ashur.

    ● Yirmiyahu ben Chilkiyahu was a Kohen from Anasos in Binyamin and he prophesied from the reign of Yoshiyahu ben Amon Melech Yehudah through Galus Bavel in Av.

    ● Hashem appears to Yirmiyahu in a nevuah and tells him that He has chosen him to be a navi since his birth and that he should not be nervous about his youth and that he should not fear those whom he will rebuke for Hashem will save him.

    ● Hashem then “touches his mouth” giving him the nevuah.

    ● Hashem asks Yirmiyahu to identify a “Makeil Shakeid - almond branch” and when he does, Hashem tells him he is correct and that He will be “Shokeid - fast/diligent” regarding His word.

    ● He then asks him to identify a bubbling pot facing the north and when he does, He tells him that a great evil will come from the north and Yehudah and Yerushalayim will be punished for their idolatry.

    ● He then tells Yirmiyahu to gird his loins, communicate His rebuke, and not fear his antagonists for Hashem would not let them prevail over him.

_Based on the Navi summaries of Pisron Daniel, R' Daniel Eisenberg_

    ● Yeshayahu quotes Hashem as saying that the heavens are His throne and the land is His footstool yet He focuses His attention on the poor, broken-spirited, and those who tremble at His word.

    ● He says that those who bring insincere korbanos are considered murderers of the animals and wasteful.

    ● Hashem says He will punish them for going against His will and then turns His attention to those who are “chareidim” to His word and encourages them saying that retribution will come to His enemies. He then says that the “woman” will give birth without painful labor and that unlike anything that’s ever happened before, a land will “give birth” in one day for He had not “brought the woman to the birthing stool just to not give birth.”

    ● He tells whoever mourned over Yerushalayim should rejoice in her and delight in her glory.

    ● Yeshayahu continues in the name of Hashem saying that peace will flow to Yerushalayim and Hashem servants will know Him but His enemies will be met with divine wrath for Hashem will “come” in a fiery chariot like a whirlwind with a sword.

    ● He will destroy those who “sanctify” and “purify” themselves yet eat pig, mouse, etc. Hashem says that he will arrange enemy nations to gather and war against Yerushalayim and they will kill the sinners.

    ● Ultimately, the enemy nations will be defeated and their survivors will be sent back to their homelands to spread Hashem’s name and glory.

The nations will then bring back all Jews in their lands to Yerushalayim in fancy chariots as a gift to Hashem just as the Jews give a mincha to Hashem is pure keilim. He says that He will even take some of them (either the goyim or the returned Jews) for Kohanim and Leviim.

    ● He says that just as the renewed heavens and earth will endure, so would the name and offspring of the righteous.

    ● He concludes that every Rosh Chodesh and Shabbos, all of mankind will come and bow before Him and will pass by the corpses of those who rebelled against Him.

    - Yeshayahu responds in Hashem’s name that He had been, kavayachol, waiting, waving His hands, and begging saying “Here I am!” for Klal Yisrael to connect to Him but they ignored Him and instead did avodah zarah, sorcery, ate pig, etc.

    - Therefore, He cannot be silent until He pays them back for their evil.

    - Nevertheless, He promises not to completely destroy Klal Yisrael and that He will indeed spare offspring from Yaakov and Yehudah and will settle those who sought Him out, while the idolaters will be punished with death.

    - Hashem then compares the treatment of His servants to the sinners saying the first group will eat, drink, enjoy, etc. while the latter group won’t.

    - At that point, everyone will bless and swear by the Elokei Amein because previous suffering will be forgotten and He is creating new heavens and earth.

    - He says He is also recreating Yerushalayim which will be a place of only joy and no more weeping.

    - He says a 100-year lifespan will be considered short, people will be able to enjoy the fruits of their labor and they won’t toil in vain, Hashem will answer Klal Yisrael before they speak, wolf and lamb and lion and cattle will graze together, and snakes will not damage on His holy mountain.
