Every weekday leading up to and through the 2025-26 season, you will hear about a different all-time Blackhawks figure in both the morning and afternoon WGN Radio sports reports, and here on WGNRadio.com. Today we’re profiling Bill Mosienko, who spent all 14 of his NHL seasons with the Blackhawks. A five-time All-Star and winner of the Lady Byng Trophy in 1945 for going an entire season without a penalty, Mosienko is best known for recording the fastest hat trick in NHL history, scoring three goals in 21 seconds against the N.Y. Rangers in 1952. That record still stands today.

He was known as “Mt. Orval”. Orval Tessier followed up his playing career with a successful coaching career in the NHL. He led the Blackhawks for three seasons. In 1983, Tessier won the Jack Adams Award as the best coach in the NHL. During the 1983 Campbell Conference Final, Tessier was quoted as saying his team needed heart transplants after giving up 16 goals in the first 2 games of the series with Edmonton. Tessier was a scout for the Avalanche in 2001, the year the organization won the Stanley Cup.

Tom Lysiak came to the Blackhawks via trade in 1979 from the Atlanta Flames. Popular Hawks Phil Russell, Darcy Rota, and Ivan Boldirev were sent the other way. Lysiak didn’t score in his first 14 games in Chicago. He ended up playing seven full seasons with the Hawks and scored 20 or more goals in four of those years, including a career-best 32 in the 1981-82 season. On October 30th, 1983, Lysiak tripped linesman Ron Foyt during a game against the Hartford Whalers. For the incident, the NHL imposed a 20-game suspension, one of the longest in league history.
