An influential figure in sports and business, Arthur Wirtz helped solidify the NHL and the Chicago Blackhawks. Wirtz’s first stop was with the Red Wings, before buying a stake in the Blackhawks in 1950. He acquired outright ownership of the team in the 1960s, and it has remained in the family since. The team was passed to Arthur’s son, Bill, then on to Rocky Wirtz. Today, Arthur’s great-grandson Danny Wirtz serves as chairman and CEO.

WGN Radio’s Charlie Roumeliotis breaks down the Blackhawks’ 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks for their first win on the road trip. Colin Fraser joins the discussion from Rogers Arena to talk about a five-goal third period for Chicago and Tyler Bertuzzi’s hat trick. Plus, Colin reminisces on the long road trips he had with the Blackhawks, the Mario Party nights during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and more.

Later, we hear from Bertuzzi, Spencer Knight and head coach Jeff Blashill. Charlie also explains why he believes Knight should strongly be considered for Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Today we’re profiling the great Troy Murray, a third-round pick by the Blackhawks in 1980 who spent 12 of his 15 NHL seasons in Chicago. His best year came in 1986, when he posted a career-high 99 points and won the Selke Trophy as the league’s top defensive forward. After retiring, Troy joined the Blackhawks’ TV broadcast before transitioning to radio, where he’s been the color commentator for nearly two decades.

Dave Manson was a Blackhawks defenseman for parts of 7 seasons. He had career highs with 18 goals and 36 assists in 1988. Manson, was also known as an enforcer, and that was on display in one of the more famous games in Hawks history, “The St Patrick’s Day Massacre” in 1991 against the Blues at the Stadium. The teams combined for 278 penalty minutes. There were a series of brawls including Manson facing off with Scott Stevens at center ice as one of the main events.

Doc Emrick was never the TV voice of the Blackhawks but during the Hawks’ Stanley Cup era, it was tough to tell.  He was at the mike for many of the team’s greatest moments. As the lead announcer for NBC, Emrick teamed with Eddie Olczyk to call such highlights as the Winter Classic, and great playoff moments like the Stanley Cup Final wins over Philadelphia, Boston and Tampa Bay. Among those moments?  Patrick Kane’s overtime Cup-winner in Philly in 2010.
