Chicks Talking Footy

Bec and Breeza were well rested after their mini break.  We discuss  all the footy news and isn’t there ALOT going on right now!  We review all of the AFL Round 15 matches and try to make sense of the troubled times gripping the AFL competition right now.

Breeza provides a VFLW update and looks ahead to finals and we bring back a favourite segment – No Warning.

Which one of the Chicks does Bec choose to take into footy Hub life?

Give us a listen and find out.

Rachael and Fi tried their hardest not to talk about the Hawks during the whole show and managed to discuss the footy news and the (mostly) uninspiring Round 14 Bye round. It’s Pride Month so we caught up with the new Diversity & Inclusion Manager of the Richmond Football Club, Rita Nehme and celebrated the great work of the AFL Pride Collective.

Fi and Sasha were feeling fresh after resting during the Bye Rounds. The Chicks caught up on all the footy news and games – Nathan Buckley retiring, Carlton rebuilding, VFLW and the classic outfits from the Big Freeze. We celebrated the footy recipients of the OAM Bec Goddard, Erin Phillips and Jan Cooper and of course Neale Daniher. To celebrate the awards we played a chat from the passionate and absolute legend, Jan Cooper.

Our listeners are in for a treat this week. Sasha and Bec caught up with Penny Cula-Reid coach of WilliamstownFC VFLW. Penny has literally smashed down barriers and changed pathways for girls to play footy, she is the coolest of Chicks and we were delighted to chat with her.

Bree and Sasha,  also caught up with Clare Woodhouse, Captain of the Brunswick Renegades Womens Footy team on the eve of her 250th milestone game. These games don’t come around often in Women’s footy so we were thrilled to celebrate Clare and her wonderful career.

Sasha gave an update on VFLW. We reviewed Round 10 and discuss all the footy news of the week (and there was plenty to chat about)

Give us a listen. #welovefooty

Fi and Sasha talked all about the AFLW bombshell announcements. Sasha gave an update about VFLW. We reviewed Round 9 (although we were both hurting from Hawks and Suns bad losses on the weekend).

We also caught up with Pete Holden former Radio DJ, Audio Producer, commentator and champion of promoting and encouraging women in broadcast via

@WARFRadio

Fi and Rachael covered the big news in AFLW – should Tayla Harris get $150,000 to play for Carlton, Nathan Burke signs on again as coach for the Bulldogs and Jessica Burger is joining the AFL Women’s Competition Committee. We talked about all the highs and lows of Round and 8, the Prison Bar guernsey war between Eddie and Kochie and Hardwick sticking up for his players in a night club brawl.

It’s also LAW WEEK which believe it or not is great for inclusion in sport for trans athletes. Bec and Fi caught up with trans man Aram Hosie from the Victorian Equal Opportunity Human Rights Commission about trans and gender diverse inclusion in sport. Aram will be speaking about all this at the law week event he is speaking at. https://www.humanrights.vic.gov.au/news/victorian-law-week-17-23-may/

Bec and Bree talked a lot about footy in this episode and it was excellent fun.

Melissa Kuys the Captain of Port Melbourne VFLW team joined us for a chat about their inaugural season.

Molina Asthana who is an expert on so many aspects of sport behind the scenes, particularly in the areas of governance and diversity also joined us.

We gave a BIG shout out to the Pride Cup games coming up this weekend, and we discussed the footy news of the week.

Give us a listen!

Cheryl Critchley is a Melbourne journalist of 30 years, President of the AFL Fans Association and lifelong Richmond supporter who loves football but is concerned about how its corporatisation affects grassroots fans. She recently helped unfurl the Richmond Football Club Premiership flags which was a huge honour.

Fi and Cheryl could’ve talked about footy all night (and almost did). We talked about ticketing, rule changes, fan inclusion and took some questions from fans on Twitter.
