Chicks Talking Footy

Fi caught up with Beau Newell from Pride in Sport in the lead up to the AFLW Pride Round. They discussed the Pride in Sport index (which benchmarks Clubs in terms of inclusion of LGBTI players and supporters), the importance of visibility and the trans inclusion policies announced in 2020.

Motty and Rachael caught up with Jess Hosking, from Carlton in the lead up to the AFLW Pride Round.

Fi and Motty caught up with Ashleigh Guest, Bulldogs AFLW utility player, in the lead up to the AFLW Pride Game. We talked about what the Club does to educate players and staff, what the Round means to her personally and the Pride Guernsey.

Fi caught up with Tanya Hosch, AFL GM of Inclusion and Social Policy, about the importance of celebration while pushing for change, visibility, the upcoming AFLW Pride Round and the trans inclusion policies being developed.

Tanya is the first Indigenous person and second woman appointed to the AFL executive and was recently a finalist for the SA person of the Year award.

The Chicks caught up with Gabby and Gill from Geelong Cats Pride Group about the Cats Pride Guernsey reveal this week in the lead up to the AFLW Pride Round.

Cats CEO Brian Cook and Richelle Cranston talked about the significance of the round and the design they will be wearing in Sunday’s match against Brisbane in a video presentation on their socials.

Gabby and Gill talked about how the Club has embraced the group and worked together to make the Cattery a more inclusive place.

This week is the first ever AFLW Pride Round and we are super EXCITED.

Gabby and Jill from Geelong Pride jump on the line to tell us what their Geelong Cats are doing for Pride Round this weekend. We talk about all of the amazing Pride Round Guernseys revealed, we talk about Collingwood’s response to the Do Better report and we talk footy from the weekend.

Give us a listen.

The Chicks reviewed the crazy 2020 AFL season and Bec and Rachael (almost) admitted that it was good that it went ahead despite their cries for it to be cancelled mid-season. We talked about the dramatic events in the first quarter at the Gabba, whether a night grand final worked and how Richmond keep winning!

Richmond President Peggy O’Neal had a chat with us about the rise of the club over the years and how they have managed the strangeness of 2020.

Peggy is the first woman in Club history to serve as President and in June 2019, she was made an Officer of the Order of Australia and we always love talking to her about her passion for the Tigers and how she is preparing for the big dance this week.

It’s AFL Grand Final week and the big game between Geelong and Richmond will be held two states away from the G in Brisbane. Things are most certainly different this year but like all footy followers we will still watch the game, eat pies and celebrate. Because it’s what we do.

The Chicks Talking Footy picnic in the MCG car-park on Grand Final day isn’t going to happen, but as soon as we can we will be meeting and talking about – you guessed it – footy.

Richmond President Peggy O’Neal had a chat with us about the rise of the club over the years and how they have managed the strangeness of 2020. Super Cat Dave Beckett and our resident Tiger Breeza dissected the Grand Final, Fi and Motty are simply looking forward to 2021 when the Bombers and the Hawks will rise again.
