Chicks Talking Footy

The Chicks debriefed the Semi-Finals and the Queensland flavoured grand final entertainment! Rohan Connelly dropped by to give us the goss on the Bombers and why there seems to be an exodus from Tullamarine. Plus we caught up with Beau Newell from Pride in Sport about the 8 Peak sporting bodies (AFL, Rugby AU, Cricket Australia, Netball Australia, Hockey Australia, Water Polo, UniSport and Tennis Australia) committing to implementing governance that supports a greater level of inclusion for trans and gender diverse people in their sports.

Chicks Talking Footy decided it was time to find out what was going in inside Essendon FC and whether all the media reports were true. So we had a chat with Rohan Connolly, award winning journalist, creator and co-host of the Footyology podcast – a man who knows and cares.

Wow!! What an incredible first week of finals!  Breeza, Rach and Fi get right into the review of the games and look ahead to the Semi finals.

We check in with Port Adelaide young gun Xavier Duursma and it is AFL Womens DRAFT time!  We catch up with  CarltonFC  newest recruit Winnie Laing taken with pick 36 in the AFLW Draft.

Give us a listen!

It’s finals time and Bec, Bree and Motty got right into the discussions of teams – those that did make the finals and those poor sods that didn’t.

Josh Battle from the Saints jumped on the line but unfortunately the CTF curse struck and he found out the next day that he wouldn’t be playing on the weekend. Doesn’t matter he is our number 1 Saint anyway.

Saints supporter (and one of the CTF faves) Mikey Cole gave us a passionate insight into what it means to have his team in the finals.

The Chicks talked footy festivals, the possibility of 28 games a season, the retirement of Bryce Gibbs (a little too much), whether Jeff Kennett is becoming of a Club president and the night grand final.

Fi also caught up with Donnie Hess head coach of Des Moines Football Club (part of the USAFL League). He filled us in on how the league is set up, launching a women’s team with two pregnant players and how popular Mason Cox is in the States.

To be honest it has been so difficult to work out what round we are in this season so we have resorted to talking about games and teams and not worrying about the specifics. The latest restrictions in Victoria will now include a single person bubble; Bec, Motty and Fi chose Luke Darcy, Timmy Watson and Chris Fagan as their footy celebrity they’d head into a bubble with – have a listen to find out why.

The Dinner Table served up its usual mix of entertainment and controversy and Bec and Fi had an enlightening and open chat with indigenous broadcaster and member of the Outer Sanctum Shelley Ware.

The Chicks catch up on all the footy news, and review the Round 14 matches. The Bombers and Cats prove footy really is a game of halves.

We reach into our archives and replay our beautiful chat with Women’s Footy Legend Jan Cooper and we light the candles for our dinner table to discuss the run home to finals, the AFL’s impending announcement on where will the Grand Final be played and its time to stop referring to women as WAGS.

Look out for our Footy Shakespeare inspiration. Give us a listen.

The Chicks dedicated this week’s show to the fans!

Fi & Motty caught up with Alice Murray, mad (and slightly deflated) Bombers supporter. We talked about how special the Dreamtime Game was in the NT, trying to stay engaged with footy during Melbourne’s lockdown and Irving Mosquito being the best name for a first game player ever!

The Chicks dedicated this week’s show to the fans!

Bec and Motty caught up with Crows super fan Ann Dahl (and super fan of Bec Dahl) to talk about the woeful season the Crows are having and her deep dislike of Port Adelaide.

She also talked about what it is like to go to an actual stadium to watch a game.

The Chicks caught up with the fans on this weeks show. One of the most devoted St Kilda fans, Yvette Wroby. Yvette is the author of Siren’s Call, a regular contributor to Footy Almanac and member of Saints Pride.

She talked about watching her blessed Saints remotely, the Robert Muir article that was released during the Indigneous Round and the loving having an AFLW team.
