Chicks Talking Footy

Fi and Breeza dissected the games, discussed crowd noise, VFL and VFLW announcements and the border restrictions lifting. Our wonderful guest was Laura Kane the Football Operations Manager at the North Melbourne Football Club, she was previously working in the club’s Women’s Football Department and the Next Generation Academy. She’s a true pioneer of the game.

The reboot of Season 2020 is finally here and we’re super excited to have footy back on our screens and for some lucky members (in some States) back in the stadiums to watch their beloved teams. We bring you up to speed on the latest footy news kicking about and preview Round 2.

Fiona caught up with Cameron Schwab former CEO of Richmond, Melbourne and Freemantle Football Clubs. He now works developing leaders in his business DesignCEO and is a talented illustrator. They talked about how they fell in love with the game, pioneering women’s footy, the state of the league post Corona, mental health, vulnerability and how leadership in sport has evolved over the last few decades. Guess who’s back, back again, Chicks are back, tell a friend….

Yes that’s right, the Chicks are back on air and that means AFL footy is around the corner and aren’t we all thrilled. Fi, Motty and Bec were joined by friend of the show Phil Davis from GWS for a great chat covering many topics and a recap on man buns. A tip for youngsters from Phil “The longer it gets, the easier it buns up” – remember that on match day.

 

 

 

 

The Chicks caught up with Dr Kasey Symons, Director at Fitzroy Football Club, Media Manager The Sport Literature Association and Co-founder of Siren Sport: A Women’s Sport Collective. We talked about the impact of the lock down on local clubs, looking after the mental of players, coaches and supporters and the lack of reporting on women’s sport during the sport lockdown.

 

Earlier this year, the Chicks caught up with Tanya Hosch, AFL General Manager of Inclusion and Social Policy. There has been a lot of discussion lately about sporting clubs being more open to all of our community as we reset during this time. Tanya has been a pioneer in this space, working with indigenous communities, players with disability, the LGBTI community and women. She discusses how policy change and cultural change are what is required to make the footy a space that is open to everyone.

 

Fi caught up with Gerry Eamon, president of the AFL Fans Assocation the week of the big announcement. Little did we know what lay ahead! We’re all missing footy right now, it’s interesting to look back on where we were at just two week’s ago.

The Chicks recorded remotely from their homes this week to discuss the impact the corona virus is having on the footy industry around the Country. Will their be a men’s season? What does a 17 match season look like. Will the AFLW season continue to be completed.

The Chicks caught up with prolific ball winner (averaging 20 disposals for the 2020 season) Karen Paxman from the Melbourne Football Club and discussed Daisy and her dog Poppy. They also caught up with ‘Coach Kiwi’ Lisa Roper who has been coaching women’s footy for 30 years and is now coaching the Fitzroy Star team and is the midfield coach for Collingwood. As always, the chicks talked about footy with some very interesting people. Tanya Hosch the AFL‘s General Manager of Inclusion and Social Policy has a huge portfolio and had a chat to the chicks about what her job entails and what progress is being made in this space.

Ange Foley, a member of the Adelaide Crows AFLW leadership group talked about where the club is at half way through the 2020 season and how much she loves playing footy.
