Jane M McCabe is an American author (both adult and Children’s), painter, former teacher and associate editor, she was born in Billings, Montana where she attended various school levels before attending the University of Washington in Seattle where she obtained a BA in Art and a minor in English. From there she progressed to obtaining an MA in Fine Art Painting at San Francisco Art Institute in 1967. The following Three years Jane attended Luther Seminary in St Paul’s, Minnesota and I think I would be justified in saying this was the start of Jane’s earnest religious pilgrimage, a pilgrimage that she has been on right up to this very day. The path she chose to satisfy her unquenchable thirst for religious discernment is very much in evidence in this book of hers.

Apart from her theological findings Jane has diversified in to teaching, painting, writing, illustrating, editing and delivering one man shows all of which she has done at various stages of her illustrious life. Boredom does not exist in Jane’s world, life is for living, exploring and pursuing your dreams even if they don’t always turn out as you expect. Always be prepared to give it ago is her stance. Jane has criss-crossed America in her pursuit of a worthwhile lifestyle and careers. Would she do it all over again if age was on her side, who knows.

So, let’s turn our attention to the Children’s books she has written, edited and illustrated.

The Books

The Remarkable Story of The Very First Flower

This is the story of a little flower that bloomed a hundred million years ago, she was the first flower to emerge on the planet, the dinosaurs were dying off and mammals started to replace them. The little flower was very lonely as she was the only flower to exist. However, her fruit and seeds transformed the landscape and soon she was surrounded by countless other flowers, just like her. The book is aimed at 5–6-year-olds. Parents and Grandparents will love reading this book to the younger generation as a bedtime read. The Illustrations are amazing, bright and jovial.

The Little Blue Lamb
Written by Wayne F Maxwell Jr
Edited & Illustrated by Jane M McCabe

This book was written by Wayne F Maxwell; however, Jane edited the book and did the illustrations. It’s a story of a blue lamb called Heather, she’s a little confused as to her colour. She encounters Mary and Joseph on a donkey on their way to Bethlehem. Joseph gives her a drink and Mary rocks her to sleep. While asleep Heather dreams of an angel who tells her to follow the star to wherever it goes. The star takes Heather to a humble stable, inside she finds the Baby Jesus in a manger. When he touches her, she realises it’s okay to be blue. The illustrations that accompany this story are wonderful. A great Christmas story for kids.

The Worm Who wanted to Fly
(Caterpillar)

This is a children’s book for very small children. It’s the story of a worm who wants to fly; actually, he’s a caterpillar, the story and the wonderful illustrations tell the tale of the various stages a caterpillar goes through to become a magnificent butterfly. An Adorable book for a bedtime read.

Celeste, Oliver and the Holey Wall

Another adorable children’s story aimed at 5-8-year-olds with amazing illustrations that really do extenuate the story of Princess Celeste and Prince Oliver. The scene is an apple orchard that separates their two kingdoms, yet the dividing wall has a whole in it which allows Prince Oliver and Princess Celeste to meet up and play. However, Prince Oliver is rather curt at times and Princess Celeste has the whole filled in to keep him away. But not for long, for he soon hatches a plan to get round the wall.
