Brad A. LaMar when he’s not fighting evil witches and wizards or uncovering the true tales behind some of the most well-known nursery rhymes, is an educator who resides in the Indianapolis Metropolitan area in the US. He has taught science to middle school students for more than twenty-five-years. He is married to his wife Lori who he describes as a beautiful and supportive woman and has two grown up children Evan and Paige who are making their own way in the world. 

Having interviewed Brad a couple of times and chatted to him over the years I think it’s fair to say he’s a man whose head never really gravitated far from the fantasy world of childhood/teenage imaginations. 

The idea for the Celtic Mythos series came from his love of science fiction and fantasy and the underutilized and abundantly rich folklore of the Celtic people. They are so much more than leprechauns! Brad has always loved a good story, and upon reaching the mythos of the Celtic Isles he became enthralled in the type of story he could create.

Brad especially enjoys the way a story makes a reader think, laugh and react. He has worked hard to bring about those experiences in his best-selling YA fantasy series, Celtic Mythos.

As for The Goz Tales books and Winkerton Wolf well, Brad really has let his childhood memories of old nursery rhymes and their characters run riot as he puts a completely different spin on bygone tales cleverly entwined with detective twists.

M&T’s Private Detection and Bakery

This is the first book in the Muff N Mann and Tom Thumb detective stories. Muff is a baker who works in the village bakery of Gosling, now Gosling isn’t a particularly nice place to live as it’s plagued with crimes all related to old nursery rhymes. Tom, Muff’s detective partner lives in the bread bin in the bakery shop as he is the size of a thumb, but his detective skills are quite astute when required. Muff and Tom’s reputation to solve mysteries has spread wide and far and they start to receive letters asking for help. This book starts off with the nursey rhyme “Jack and Jill” who we all know went up a hill to fetch a pale of water, but why did they go up the hill and furthermore why did they come tumbling back down again. Muff and Tom are tasked with revealing what’s behind this ancient rhyme and where it takes them and what other famous nursey rhyme characters they meet along the way is what this storyline/case is all about. There are thirteen chapters to this story for young children to fall in love with and discover how different characters from other nursey rhymes beautifully blend to crack this case.

What has a billionaire pig who goes by the name of Norma Pigg, her three brothers, bad wolf, a Tv Judge and gumming all have in common. Well, the answer lies within this second book. Muff has had a visit to the bakery from Norma Pigg who hands him a note, he’s keen to take the case on, but all the others around him are very reluctant all most to the point of being hostile to the idea, even the judge advises Muff to leave well alone. However, Muff is undeterred with all the negativity and proceeds drawing those around him into the murky world of gumming in the next-door village of Grimm. We meet new nursey rhyme characters from more old nursey rhymes and as in the first book again the characters blend well to reveal all as to what’s going on here. The plot thickens, but who is really behind all the gumming shenanigans going on here.

Abundance N Solomon is a health care support worker from Cambridge in the UK. He was born in Nigeria and moved with his family to the UK at the age of five. Strangely enough as a child he often thought what is life like after death. Despite all his childhood attempts to ascertain an answer he drew a blank, but he does know now. In his early teens his father sent him back to Nigeria to fulfil his secondary and tertiary education. While he was there at a military boarding school in Northern Nigeria, he turned his attention to the gospel and the more he became engrossed with its teachings the more his life took on a deeper spiritual meaning something that has remained with him right up to this present day. He came back to the UK where he undertook another degree, while completing that degree he got the inspiration to write the book.

Lynn Slaughter is a successful award-winning American author of nine books, ranging from romantic crime, fantasy and young adults.  She lives in Louisville in Kentucky in the USA, where she resides with her husband. Lynn has two grown up sons and five adorable grandchildren. However, she grew up in New York and Connecticut where she graduated from Smith College with a degree in Sociology, to that she added a masters.

While Lynn’s work in sociology formed an integral part of her life, in particular interacting with people from all backgrounds, she had another great passion that stemmed right back to her childhood and that was music and movement, more so the movement. Dance for Lynn was the very essence for getting up each day, juggling family life and a professional career had its challenges, but the enjoyment she got from dance outweighed the difficulties. Lynn chose to become a professional dancer specializing in modern dance, and throughout her career performed, choregraphed and taught.  As a dance educator she instilled in those that she taught an ethos and understanding that the art of movement to music was to be enjoyed and cherished, just like she did.

Like most things in life, there comes a time when a new path to follow calls and for Lynn that was writing. The love of books and the art of creative writing had for some time now co-existed with her passion for both dance and people. To refine her skills in creative fictional writing Lynn enrolled on a writing course at Seton Hill University where she obtained an MFA in writing popular fiction.

The Books

The Big Switch: Varney and Cedric

This latest narrative From Lynn Salughter is dynamically told over forty-five engrossing chapters. The book is split into two parts with the first part being considerably shorter than the second. There are two main protagonists to this story Varney and Cedric. Varney has been diagnosed with V.A.D. Vampire Adjustment Disorder, he hates the taste of blood and longs to be a human boy who can go to school and play basketball during the day. Cedric on the other hand is extremely unhappy as a human and fears that he’s turning into his bully of a father, something he dearly wishes he could control and avoid. For Cedric a vampire’s powers have long interested him and the thought of becoming a vampire would be beyond his wildest dream. Camilla, a friendly witch gives Varney and Cedric the opportunity to switch places on a temporary basis, this golden opportunity is a moment not to be missed for both, but should they reveal this brief transformation to anyone, the reversal will end with immediate effect. A trial period of thirty days has been set, after that if they like their new personas, the switch will be made permanent. 

Death in the End Zone

If you enjoyed Lynn’s book Missed Cue and the complex character homicide detective Caitlin O Connor, then you are going to enjoy this latest book as Caitlin grapples with the murder of two young budding footballers. Who Killed Elijah Williams a young black African American boy and Joey Mateo a white teenager whose bodies were found in a compromising position in the end zone of their high school’s football field. The story is interwoven with homosexuality, sibling squabbling; if these two aspects weren’t enough for Caitlin’s homicide team to deal with, throw in religious viewpoints, alcoholism and a whole host of complex matters especially Caitlin’s new man on the block. The cauldron around this contentious homicide case is well and truly coming to the boil. If Caitlin cannot get to the bottom of who’s behind these murders, she’ll be off the case and her reputation as a serious homicide detective will be severely damaged. She can kiss any chance of a career move goodbye. But maybe, just maybe romance could be on the upswing for her, feeling all maternal, hmm…

Sixty-two short, sharp, focused and intense chapters is what you can expect from Lynn Slaughter in this page-turning book of hers. It’s a book that’s cleverly telling two stories from different time periods that have a connection.

 Noelle is a seventeen-year-old aspiring ballet dancer who has serious doubts as to her mother’s disappearance, was it suicide or something more sinister.  What her investigation throws up, you’ll find absorbing, plus what of her romantic entanglement with Ravi another dancer will leave you guessing. 

Savannah’s story running alongside that of Noelle’s is equally fascinating, she’s a young woman from twenty years ago, her escape from an abusive marriage has close interrelatedness with Noelle’s investigation into her mother’s circumstances.

The two stories running parallel with each other blend smartly together to bring about an interesting overall narrative. Well done, Lynn!

Missed Cue

Forty-five spine-tingling chapters of crime and mystery are exposed in this book as Lynn Slaughter takes you on an intriguing journey of what happened to the ballerina Lydia Miseau whose death on stage in the final dress rehearsal of Romeo and Juliet leaves many open-ended questions, questions homicide detective Catlin O Connor needs to answer. The autopsy report reveals no apparent cause of death, so Caitlin must not only ferret out who may have harmed the ballerina, but how they did it. Her investigations lead her to believe that the person responsible, as in most murder cases, is close at hand but getting the evidence to support her theories is proving a little tricky, especially when you consider Lydia’s messed up personal life particularly when it comes to her dalliances come affairs with married men, which never bode well for all concerned. 

A clever book, well written and constructed, and worth a read, as is Missing Mom.

Janet Dunne lives in Dublin in the Republic of Ireland; she’s a woman who has lived with bipolar disorder for some considerable time. Bipolar disorder is a lifelong mental health condition that causes extreme shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and concentration. The characteristics of the disorder are intense emotional highs which come with irritable moods, little sleep, racing thoughts, rapid speech, impulsivity, and a distorted sense of grandiosity to manic depressions that leave a person with deep sadness, hopelessness, lack of energy, loss of interest in activities and potentially suicidal thoughts.  Like most disorders there are several types to bipolarism all depending on how severe the ups and downs are. Yes medication, talking therapies and lifestyle adjustments play vital roles in keeping symptoms stable, but at the end of the day this is a life long mental health issue. Janet’s book talks about her many experiences, good, bad and indifferent from childhood to current day. What Janet hopes to achieve with this book is for those living with bipolarism to see Janet’s perspective on bipolar disorder and how she has confronted many of her inner demons so to speak. On the other hand, those of us fortunate enough not to be living with a mental disorder of this nature, Janet’s wish by writing this book is that you get an inkling as to what it must be like for someone who has bipolar disorder and maybe adopt a more sympathetic approach when they are going through a rough patch. Both the book and Janet’s own life have many humorous antidotes and tales that are cleverly entwined in the storyline.

Col. Charles Cone, USAF(Retired) of Farrington Hills, Michigan has led a life of service having reached a glorious century and not out, on the 5th of January this year. He entered the US Navy on the 22nd of February 1944 and having decided that career path was not for him, he transferred to the Air Force and was soon called up for duty for the Korean War. In 2006 he received the prestigious Master Pilot Award from the FAA for fifty years of accident/incident free flying, though at times some flights came perilously close to denying him that achievement. Col. Cone in addition to the pilot award has numerous military awards to his name including two Legion of Merits, an Air Medal and Presidential Unit Citation. Besides his military honours Col. Cone achieved a BSc from Ohio State University and a MSc in computer Science from Texas A&M University.

In addition to his accomplishments as a decorated officer, Col. Cone has built a legacy of community service, including flying patients across America for medical procedures through Angel Flights. Col. Cone has also served as an officer of the Lions’ Clubs International and various Masonic organisations along with countless hours of supporting his local church. Adding to this illustrious list we must mention his work for the Penrickton Centre for Blind Children, the Greater Detroit Society for the Blind, The Salvation Army and Operation Able. Col. Cone is a proud recipient of the Spirit of Detroit Award and numerous international, national and local Lions’ Club honours. Col. Cone’s most recent accomplishment is the completion of his published memoirs.  So, as you can see Col. Cone is quite a distinguished guest and I’m led to believe he was offered a post of General but having spoken to his wife Jo of sixty-nine years who has now sadly passed he turned that position down. At the age of 100 is he still flying his beloved, most definitely.

This outstanding book is an autobiography of Colonel Charles Cone’s own remarkable life from humble beginnings in a farmhouse in the town of Covington, Wyoming County, New York State to the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Abraham was born on a poor farm in 1939, with ten siblings. “I did not even own a pair of shoes until I was 10 years old”. He developed a love for learning, and at seventeen, he became a communist. His eloquent speeches attracted large crowds, but deep inside he felt empty, and the longing for God only continued to grow. His life changed dramatically one night, as he entered a church and dedicated his life to God. Ever since he has been on a relentless path to know God better and to lead others to the truths of the Bible. He is a Pastor with three PhDs around theology, and specializes in Old Testament, Bible Prophecies, Divinity, Church History, Numerology and Typology, with more than thirty books written. His first book in English was The Tabernacle and the Church (by Wipf and Stock Publishers). His latest book is Russia’s Final Destination (a best seller in South America for forty years: Israel, Gog and the Antichrist), and soon to be released Sabbath, Grace and Glory (Should Christians keep the Sabbath?). One of his greatest achievements is being one of the scholars who translated the NIV Bible into Portuguese. He currently lives in South Florida with his wife Penha and son Junior.

The Book

This powerful, provocative and exquisitely written book contains many stimulating theories on how some of todays issues around Russia, Israel and end times were predicted in biblical conjectures. 

Many of us have often wondered why Russia invaded Ukraine, does it have anything to do with Biblical prophecies surrounding Israel. Abraham a pastor with three doctorates in theology, grapples with that debate plus numerous other arguments in his book. In part 1 Abraham focuses on references the Bible makes about the nation of “Gog” now Russia. Abraham attests that Russia’s predicament with Ukraine today can be traced back to prophecies made in the Bible. In Part 2 Abraham draws attention to Israel’s current phase and attempts to address why antisemitism is on the rise. In Part 3 under End Times Abraham examines and explains what End Times looks like, including the Rapture of the Church, the world government (first beast), the Antichrist (second beast) identified by 666, Great Tribulation, Millenium, New Jerusalem and the glorious eternity with God. 

This convoluted book hasn’t been written as a cosy bedtime read, that’s not its purpose, its impetus is to make you stop and think how past Biblical prophesies are coming to the fore and playing their part in todays world be they good or just plain evil.

Griff Ruby is from Lompoc a small community town close to the stunning Pacific Coastline of California in the United States. He has been married to his wife Juliet for over twenty-Seven years. Griff like me was born in 1958 and for most of his life he has been searching for the true meaning of Christianity. That search took him on a journey as he explored various religious teachings, but he eventually settled on Catholicism, but even that is only the general neighbourhood since he speaks for a growing group of Catholics who believe that today’s Vatican no longer speaks for Catholicism. When you have a look at his books, you’ll see that he can be quite controversial, possibly putting him at odds with contemporary doctrine. What does he think of Vatican II? The Book

For nearly two thousand years the Roman Catholic Church withstood all the currents of change and history and maintained a closely guarded orthodoxy which has always served as the basis and centre of all Christianity. Yet, it is as if all of that has been arbitrarily swept away in the few years by Vatican II. Given what the church has always taught about itself being indefectible. How could this have happened? Did that Council have something to do with that terrible loss of faith? Can the real Catholic Church be found today, and if so, where?

The shocking answer to this, once seen and truly understood, is as every bit as glorious as the original resurrection of Christ Himself, a tremendous source of faith and inspiration. It is broad-based, longstanding miracle passing right before our eyes, have we but the Grace to see it for what it is.

Sede Vacante! The literal translation from the Latin to English is ‘Vacant Chair.’

And when you have read the book, you’ll understand why Griff gave his book this title. At first glimpse Griff sets out the purpose of the book and let’s be clear it’s not a bedtime read, it was never intended to be that; it’s a thought-provoking book with some interesting and at times controversial viewpoints. For me Griff has set the book out in a unique way, are they chapters? Or are they sections that can be viewed as chapters? Either way you decide but Griff has set them as doctrines and deductions. He starts off with sixteen doctrines closely followed towards the end with five deduction sections, at the end of most doctrines and deductions Griff challenges you with a series of findings and raw questions all done to simply make you think. Is Griff’s Ideological rhetoric to your taste hmm…maybe, maybe not but it’s well worth investigating. At the end of the book, you’ll find an exceptionally well written epilogue, a compelling table of basic premises, findings and questions, and finally an engaging Appendix around the sources of errors against the authority of the traditional Catholic Bishops.

This book is extremely well written, but as I have already hinted at its contents in places will certainly raise a few eyebrows. I would be interested to hear what the hierarchy in the Vatican would say about this book. So, look for yourself and formulate your own opinions.

Is God’s will being shaped to fit man’s needs rather than man shaping himself to meet God’s expectations? This question is at the heart of this book.

Vicki Augustiniak lives in Troy in the state of Michigan in the USA.  She initially grew up in Inner City Detroit as the oldest of nine children, her father’s drinking issues made life at times challenging for the family something she has never forgotten. Her school days in a Catholic environment is where she learned about overseas missionaries and their work walking in the footsteps of Jesus, it was those profound experiences then, that led to her decision to do something similar hence her life today traveling to different parts of the world wherever Christ takes her.

In 1972 she became a nurse a decision she has never regretted, her experience working in numerous sections of the health system has enriched her life both professionally and spiritually. It is these facets of her life that form the core of who and what she is today, but more so why she does what she does today.

Vicki has been married to Rick for more than fifty years, she has two grown up children and six wonderful grandchildren, who outside the realms of traveling for Christ to support those less fortunate than herself and writing, keep her busy.

The Book

The series is about the experiences of one woman’s willingness to follow Christ wherever he leads.

This is the third book in the ‘Really, God ‘series, following on from her spiritual exploits in Bangladesh and South Africa. Twenty-three chronologically laid out chapters set out Vicki’s undertakings in Guatemala, this time to build well sites to provide clean fresh water to some of Guatemala’s poorest mountainous communities. Of course, being a retired nurse, she brings some of her medical expertise to carefully set-up clinics. What Vicki encounters along the way enriches her own beliefs in God and on numerous occasions throughout the book you see her sense of gratitude to God for her lifestyle in comparison to what she sees unfolding before her eyes as she criss-crosses Guatemala. Faith, adventure and a determination to follow Gods’ calling are at the heart of this book and series.

Nick Hoffman was born in Brockway, Pennsylvania, in 1961. He graduated from high school in 1979 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Finance in 1983.

He spent thirty tears with the Courier-Express daily newspaper in DuBois, Pennsylvania, including thirteen years as Managing Editor. He later served nine years at Varischetti Holdings, LP in Brockway as Community Initiatives Coordinator.

A lifelong golf enthusiast, Hoffman draws on this passion in his writing. In 2023, he retired and relocated to Omaha, Nebraska, to care for his father.

The Book

The opening gambit on the front cover of the book really does summarise the overriding backdrop to the story of Nick and his late father’s close but in many respects distant relationship. You might feel what I have just said a contradiction in terms, yet when you read the book, you’ll see why I have said that. At times this father, son relationship incorporated around a game of golf is quite touching.
