Bruce Martin is a British author who has lived in the realm of make believe for a very long time, that is not to say he’s an astute person with a business mind and a clear vision with regards to his future, a future in words. Like most of us his life has been a rollercoaster ride and upon reflection had he been diagnosed earlier on in his childhood with OCD/ADHD things might have turned out differently.  How Bruce, saw the world then and to a certain degree now and how the world saw him particularly his parents could best be described as two very stark pictures, where the pictures in black and white or white and black. Bruce is now in his fifties, a single parent to his three-year-old daughter and having almost reconciled his disorderly youth days to the past he now focuses and relishes on his creativity way of thinking, something that has always been at the core of who he is as a person. It’s this creativity in particular his penchant for everything mystical, fantasy and possibly make believe that this debut book of his came about, so let’s turn our attention to the book, a book as the title alludes to somewhere between realm and reality.

The Book

Twenty-one chapters of exhilarating gothic fantasy awaits you here, and for young adults to whom this book is mainly written for, well! you’re in for a surprise as the author takes you on his lopsided version of Alice in Wonderland. This dark tale of magic and deceit told by an eclectic bunch of remote from reality creatures and the authors own conceptualization of how he perceives the Mad Hatter, Rabbit and the Queen of Hearts will at times make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. A chilling tale indeed, beautifully written and masterly composed.

Alison Wilde is plucked and plunged into the Netherworld; her earthly world has diminished to a mere fleeting memory and her new dark world filled with werewolves and other horrifying mystical creatures is less than comforting. Her so-called new friends endeavour to steer her through this dark murky world where dark evil forces are at play to destroy the very fabric of the universe. Alison has a destiny which is thwarted at every stage by the evil that lurks in the mystical universe she finds herself in. What is her destiny? Who are the dark forces at play? Why do they want to destroy the universe? Will Alison overcome those that seek to destroy her and achieve her desired result?
