The Author

Griff Ruby is from Lompoc a small community town close to the stunning Pacific Coastline of California in the United States. He has been married to his wife Juliet for over twenty-five years. Griff like me was born in 1958 and for most of his life he has been searching for the true meaning of Christianity. That search took him on a journey as he explored various religious teachings, but he eventually settled on Catholicism, but even that is only the general neighbourhood since he speaks for a growing group of Catholics who believe that today’s Vatican no longer speaks for Catholicism. When you have a look at his books, you’ll see that he can be quite controversial, possibly putting him at odds with contemporary doctrine. What does he think of Vatican II? Well, I’ll let you draw your own conclusions as you peruse the pages. So, let’s turn to the book that we are going to focus on in this podcast interview.

The Book

Sede Vacante! The literal translation from the Latin to English is ‘Vacant Chair.’

And when you have read the book, you’ll understand why Griff gave his book this title. At first glimpse Griff sets out the purpose of the book and let’s be clear it’s not a bedtime read, it was never intended to be that; it’s a thought-provoking book with some interesting and at times controversial viewpoints. For me Griff has set the book out in a unique way, are they chapters? Or are they sections that can be viewed as chapters? Either way you decide but Griff has set them as doctrines and deductions. He starts off with sixteen doctrines closely followed towards the end with five deduction sections, at the end of most doctrines and deductions Griff challenges you with a series of findings and raw questions all done to simply make you think. Is Griff’s Ideological rhetoric to your taste hmm…maybe, maybe not but it’s well worth investigating. At the end of the book, you’ll find an exceptionally well written epilogue, a compelling table of basic premises, findings and questions, and finally an engaging Appendix around the sources of errors against the authority of the traditional Catholic Bishops.

This book is extremely well written, but as I have already hinted at its contents in places will certainly raise a few eyebrows. I would be interested to hear what the hierarchy in the Vatican would say about this book. So, look for yourself and formulate your own opinions.

Is God’s will being shaped to fit man’s needs rather than man shaping himself to meet God’s expectations? This question is at the heart of this book.

Annielean is from a small community town not far from Toronto in Canada, her life has had many ups and downs but what has been steadfast throughout her entire life is her faith which at times greatly challenged her. Annielean is a mother, a widow and a whole host of other things, but the 5th June 1999 was a very important day in her life, for that was the day she was ordained. Ordination for those in the religious life means different things but, for Annielean it means dedicating her life be that long or short to the Lord’s workings, something she sees as an absolute privilege. Her favourite scriptural passage is John 3:16 KJV: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Izaera lives as a free-minded person in the Toronto area of Canada. Firstly, he sees himself as a human being thus identifying with the rest of the world’s eight billion people. Crystal Stewart is an award-winning author from Red Bluff, California, in the U.S. She best describes herself as a lightworker, mother, housewife, gardener, domestic goddess, baker, meditator. For me she’s all of these but with a wonderful zany attribute to compliment her overriding personality. On a professional note, Crystal is certified in numerous holistic practices which include, Clinically Certified Hypnotherapist, Theta Healing, Reiki, Metatronia Therapy. She’s a Reader and Energy Healer as well as a Spiritual Counsellor. One busy woman you might say. 

If you have a gift Crystal believes that you should pursue that gift, for that is what she has done with having the gift to interact with awakening souls. Her first experience of encountering awakening souls was when she was eight, her parents had separated when she was three and she moved with her mother to Florida who at the time went back to school to re-educate herself to get a better job to support her family. During that time Crystal stayed at her grandparents. One night she woke from a sound sleep because she could sense something was coming, initially she was frightened with the energy that was surrounding her, but when she later reflected on the situation, she realised she could see three Dickensian characters.  A reader later in her life explained the scenario to her and that these Dickensian characters were friends from another life just stopping by to say hello. This encounter and others that followed changed Crystal’s perception on both religious views and life in general, hence her decision to explore her gift and professionally help others who were experiencing similar things. 

During a meditation Crystal was asked to co-write this book with spirit, so let’s open the book and see what she has to say about awakening souls.

Lieutenant Commander Dave Lassam, RAN(Ret) Joined the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) in February 1978 as a recruit medic. Dave quickly progressed through the medic training with great success. He was posted over the forthcoming years to the hospitals of HMAS Cerberus, Albatross and Melbourne. Further postings and promotions led to ‘Sailor of the Year’ at HMAS Huon, coupled with ‘Instructor of the Year’ at HMAS Cerberus. Fresh promotions followed which ultimately led to him becoming a Lieutenant Commander.

Throughout Dave’s distinguished career in the RAN he experienced his fair share of overseas operations, Bali, Astute, Slipper, Quickstep, Sumatra and Catalyst to name but a few. What he saw and experienced as a medic officer ultimately effected his mental health. In 2016 he retired from naval duties on the grounds of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, plus receiving treatment for Prostate Cancer.

Outside of naval life (Civvy Street) Dave’s medical background is often called upon, he has frequently attended road traffic incident scenes, plus on numerous occasions at dog shows being asked for his assistance when a medical emergency has come to light. 

Dave and his partner live in Melbourne, Australia, there house is dominated by dogs, dogs are their lives, hence the reference to the dog shows.

Why has Dave written this book about his life in the Royal Australian Navy, well let’s find out by turning our attention to the book.

The Book

When I look at this book, I don’t see standardize chapters, what I see is a collection of 60 -70 events, events that have shaped and influenced Dave’s life both in naval service and in his private life. But, for LCDR Dave Cameron Lassam, the Australian navy has and always will be a significant part of his life.

Rick Stuempfle is from Fenton in Southern Pennsylvania in the USA. For the past forty years he has been an active pastor for the United Church of Christ officiating in various roles of the church but mainly focusing on rebuilding challenging environments and reuniting congregations on what he sees as the right path. This is an outstanding book of exceptional quality, it falls under the genres of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Sword & Sorcery. For lovers of Tolkien this lengthy book is a must read.

There are two volumes to the book, the first volume has ten chapters, the second has twelve. As the subtitle alludes to it’s all about the reframing of a new world.

What causes a society or civilization to stand and fight or collapse and fall in the face of uncertain adversity is an integral part of the story creatively foretold in this spellbinding book? How will the Haafian’s fare in unchartered waters when pitied against the godless Kyykki? With the truth well and truly concealed who will prevail in this battle of power to survive into a new world?

Dr Emmett was a reconstructive plastic surgeon who after retirement from active surgery retrained for five years as an artist and sculptor. He simultaneously explored the nature, of the unconscious mind with a talented clairvoyant seeking the source of his inner voice, which had a profound influence on him stemming back to his childhood. He met Sri Sathya Sai Baba who sourced material for the clairvoyant, and was shown records of influences in his life, and in his previous lives. His father had been the only surgeon and doctor of Ayr North Queensland in WW2, thus an extremely busy person. With it being war time in Australia getting parts to fix things that broke were extremely difficult, so as a young boy he quickly learnt to be resourceful with repairs, the advice as to how to fix things Dr Emmett firmly believes came from his inner subconscious. 

Dr Emmett’s medical career was highly successful, but during his professional life he became interested in the subconscious responses from his patients stemming from his own beliefs and experiences in inner subconsciousness. Dr Emmett, aided by Sai Baba gained so much knowledge in this field he began to see how the inner mind could have a profound impact on humanity, thus he has continued right up to the present day to explore further into the philosophy that surrounds this area of expertise.

Furthermore, Dr Emmett understands that we live our lives in our everyday conscious level but need sleep, which is a higher conscious level. He also advocates that we use the subconscious everyday and that we can access the higher conscious at a higher frequency again, which connects to the divine energy. Sai Baba said his main teaching is that we have God within, God is absolute consciousness.

The Book

The story of consciousness describes the mystery we are, where we come from before birth and where we go after death, plus the thinking both in our mind, subconscious and beyond. Dr Pat Mosto is a Professor and Dean Emeritus from Rider University in Lawrence Township; New Jersey in the U.S. her area of expertise is around Environmental Sciences and Ecology. Dr Mosto presently lives in Reston a community town in Virginia close to Washington DC. The Book

The book is a collection of eleven Argentine recipes, the first half of the book is in English and the second part in Spanish: naturally so, with Argentina’s native tongue being Spanish. Each recipe covers off the history behind its making, along with how to prepare and cook it, plus the required ingredients. This is a great book for grandparents and parents alike to have fun in the kitchen teaching grandchildren and children how to enjoy good healthy meals. Most of us love messing around in the kitchen creating delicious nosh, even when it all goes pear shape, but that’s the fun of it, even the world’s great chefs mess up at times. The Proverb, “too many cooks spoil the broth,” springs to mind. But let’s have fun learning how to create and cook delicious meals with the young ones. The photos of how the dishes should turn out are very good.

Dr Shirley McClerkin-Motley PhD lives in a small community called Cayce in South Carolina in the U.S. Dr Shirley has four grown up children, thirteen grandchildren, and seven godchildren. As a retired tenured professor and Social Work Department Chair at Coker University, life’s pace has slightly eased now giving her more time to focus on what really matters to her as a black African American with a deep faith, a faith that has been her rock throughout her life’s journey. As well as these societies Dr Shirley is listed in the 2024 Wall Street Journal’s Who’s Who Among Distinguished Leaders, and has appeared in Bold Journey, an online digital magazine.

Education was and still is a fundamental aspect of her life, she completed her undergraduate studies at Benedict College, where she received a miner in Child Abuse and Neglect, graduating Magna Cum Laude; her MSW from the University of South Carolina, where she received a USC Minority Fellowship. Dr Shirley was awarded a PhD from Capella University in Human Services with a specialization in Social and community services. None of this would have taken place if it wasn’t for the support from her family especially her two brothers; to these people she will always be indebted to and keeps them in her daily prayers as a profound sense of love and gratitude.

The Book

Let me give you an insight as to what you can expect from Dr Shirley’s well thought out and cleverly written account around the last book in the bible Revelation. A lot of people write their own conclusions to the events and happenings occurring here and Dr Shirley is no exception. But, for me what makes this book stand head and shoulders above the others I have reviewed is its clarity with ease of reading and understanding. The message is succinct and clear.

Linda Dooks was born and raised in a farming community in North Yorkshire a proud county of the UK. As child she would often doodle stories in a notebook, a notebook she hid from her parents who thought writing when other chores needed to be attended to, a waste of time, they often wondered why Linda dilly-dallied when taking the dog for a walk, the walk was brief but a necessary activity to get some doodling done. A trip to the local library on a Saturday was very often the hi-light of Linda’s week. The librarian there would keep all of Linda’s short stories she had written in a box under the counter, so that she could revisit them, plus allow her to read some of her favourite authors, Agatha Christie and Arthur Conon Doyle. 

Having left school to earn a living and learning that her librarian had died, Linda forgot about the box under the counter and often thinks what happened to it, but she didn’t forget about her desire to write, and picked that up again after the birth of her children. Linda joined a writing class in Hemsley, North Yorkshire, and with renewed encouragement wrote her children’s stories based on the North York Moors Railway adventures, maybe one day she will publish them. Let’s hope so.

Now retired from the local council and having more time to focus on the one thing she has loved throughout her life, Linda has written this debut novel, with the full support of her husband Peter and children Emma and Richard, plus a few other friends from nearby writing fraternities. So, let’s turn our attention to the book.

The Book

Sixty-five stunning but brief chapters are wrapped up in this book to bring you a scintillating story about the character Rose Watson a sixteen-year-old girl born in North Yorkshire in the UK in 1897. Her early years were profoundly impacted upon by the death of her mother, which left her in an uncompromising family situation with an uncaring father and a precarious unwanted situation with regards to her brother whose advances towards her probably bordered on incestuous had she allowed matters to unfold. Growing up in a male dominated farming community with little sympathy Rose needed to escape her world of drudgery and unpalatable attention, a new world called with new prospects but equally a world adorned with new dangers.

Rose emigrates to America, New York to be precise, the boat journey across the Atlantic from Liverpool to Ellis Island New York was long and arduous. Agnes a budding singer who she meets lures her into New York’s dubious and dangerous underworld. Rose quickly learns that the tough streets of New York are not paved in gold. Rose’s one saving grace is that of Thomas Blackwood an American who she met while travelling to America. Does romance come her way or does another cruel lesson of life lurk around the corner. Hmm…I know what happens, but if you want to find out, then this historical fiction book which has been carefully researched to bring a sense of authenticity to it, is waiting for you to flick through its pages. So, flick through them.

The narrative is very well written, it’s an easy read, but a read packed with the reality of those times and what life was like then for a young girl braving a new adventure.
