Arthur Rutledge was born in Houston, Texas in the USA, at the age of four his family moved to a small town called Fairfield where he grew up. Arthur now lives in Dallas the place synonymous with the assassination of John F Kennedy on the 22nd of November 1963.

He describes himself as a fiery motivated individual, putting that gene characteristic down to his genealogy routes stemming from his grandparents. On his Father’s side his grandmother was a native American from the Comanche people, his grandfather on the other hand was of Irish abstraction. On his mother’s side of the family his grandfather was of English heritage and his grandmother was of Irish stock. Well, there’s a hereditary line for the melting pot.

School wasn’t his forte, academia bored him, however his innate sense of practicality amongst the trades enabled him to have a very good lifestyle. Unfortunately, an incident took place in his life, the outcome of which saw him confined for thirty-three years in a U.S. state penitentiary.  It was there that the concept and the inner workings of this book began, so let’s turn our attention to the book to discover what it contains and holds for future readers.

The Book

Legacy of the Melkizadek (Melchizedek) is the most intriguing and informative revelation from the Creator God of the entire history of the world! Those things uttered by the ‘Seven Thunders’ in (Rev.Ch.10), which John the Apostle was not allowed to write. The book also touches upon the history of Yahweh Yahshua the Creator God before he arrived in this sector of the galaxy. Also, included is a complete and thorough explanation of the Melchizedek priesthood, a priesthood that all believers are baptized into. The Book explains the relationship covenant (The Ten Commandments) in detail, plus grants a further discussion around the plan of salvation for man. 

The author has spent thirty-five-years looking at the numerous translations that are in existence, what misconceptions he has witnessed they have been readdressed in this book. When you open the book you will see, it’s a short book and that it has been divided up into several sections starting with the prologue, through to a list of appendages. This book is not intended to be a cosy bedtime read, more the book that makes you stop and think. Now, whether you agree or not with the authors views, interpretations around the legacy of the Melchizedek, I leave that judgement for you to ponder on, once you have read the book. It has many ideological points that may fascinate you, and I’ll say no more.

James Allen Johnson was born in Berry a small farming rural town in the U.S. State of Alabama. James’ early years where certainly lean, but not dirt poor in comparison to some households back then. Coming from a large family of eight, all of whom had to work on the local white owned farms picking cotton and vegetables to support the family taught James a fundamental lesson in life, that being if you want something then you have to earn it by doing an honest day’s work. His father David worked in a nearby steel mill, his mother Kathleen worked as a domestic for one of the local white farmer’s families, so the family was slightly better off financially as opposed to those that relied solely on farm work. Like most black African Americans from the deep American South, the role of the church and God’s standing both back then and now played and still play a key fundamental part of both James’ family and community life. James’ faith is partly responsible for the coming about of this book, but I make it very clear this book is an alien adventure.

James currently lives in Tuscaloosa Alabama with his wife of forty-one -years Beatrice. He has three grown up children. James required a BSc in Accounting from the University of Alabama, with a further MBA. He runs his own business now that he is officially a retired civil service employee who was involved in the financial regulator side of things. Over here in the UK accountants or financial experts are commonly known as ‘Number Crunchers,’ no doubt, in the USA a similar term of endearment is attached to those in that line of profession. 

James has written numerous books but, ‘An American Abduction’ is his first published work that he put out last year so let’s briefly turn to the book.

The Book

Holly Brough is from the state of Utah in the U.S. She’s married and has devoted most of her married life to her husband and three children. I can’t help but wonder how her life would have turned out had she not been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of nineteen; would she have gone down the theatrical path of dance, acting and singing, something she had set her heart on. I can only image Holly herself wondering how her life would have been very different, had it not been for a cruel twist of faith, that took that dream away from her.

Despite some life changing events that have restricted, but not destabilized her life, the one thing that has steadfastly been at the backbone of who she is, is her faith in God, he has been the glue that has guided her through both the good and challenging times in her life, and that is something she is truly grateful for. Is he responsible for her turning not only to writing but painting as well, in her eyes probably so, for the past six years Holly has found water colour painting extremely therapeutic and exhilarating.

 Living with dyslexia, the prospect of writing a book somewhat daunted Holly and considering she didn’t really appreciate the enjoyment of reading until the birth of her first child, you start to get a sense of what an achievement writing this book means to Holly, and we can only hope that she continues to write with such voracity and vigour as more books roll off the conveyor belt. The one thing that sticks in her memory with regards to her literary skills, is what her scripture tutor told her, and that was to read the scriptures every day, by doing so she would overcome her limitations both in reading and comprehension. All I can say is that Holly must have swallowed the whole bible to write a book of this depth and intrigue. 

Let’s hope for more books, but on the note of books let’s turn our attention to this one.

The Book

Forty-three chapters of highly imaginative storytelling, told through creative well-written prose awaits you all here. If I was a literary award scheme, this book would be rated ‘Gold star Plus,’ in the category ‘New Author Must Read.’

The story revolves around Amalia and is set in nineteenth century Spain. As a young Fifteen-year-old Amalia’s life takes a different course put her past cannot be eradicated. What of that past! well that’s a journey well worth exploring in the book. However, her future is equally precarious, Spanish patriarchal society, abusive controlling nobility, limiting choices, Royal frolicking’s, pregnancies followed by abandonment, and escaping for safety, only to be deceived into another layer of entrapment by a male dominated society whose cold-hearted approach leads to prostitution for survival. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel, but at what price? 

Want to know more? Well, I’m not going to divulge anything that will spoil your intrigue as to the very essence of what this magnificent plot reveals about Amalia and her life back then. You’ll have to buy and read the book to find out. Enjoy I did.

Neil Grew up in and around Washington D.C, and for most of his life he has been involved in the construction industry. He’s been married for neigh on forty-four years, plus he proudly states he is a Scottish Rite Mason. Poetry has been at the heart of his life for a considerable amount of time and very often the poems are accompanied to music. In 2018, Neil published his poetry book Moods of a Lake: and selected poems with illustrations to go with them, he’s currently working on a second book of poems, some short stories, a novella and a movie script, hmm…a busy guy. When you ask Neil what guides his life, he will say three things, but what those three things are, are revealed in his poetry, so when you read the poems, you need to search in between the lines for the message. Very clever.

The Book

Moods of a Lake: and Selected Poems

This is a book of forty-five free standing poems, for Neil it’s a collection of poetry because of the interactions he has had with people and events over the years who have in someway moulded his life. The poems are in sequential order, and I suppose you could say form a snapshot view over the years of Neil’s life from early childhood to mature adulthood. The poems depict the many trials in Neil’s life from the good to the bad, from the exciting to the dreary, plus happy and sad times. I think it’s wonderful how someone, can analyse their life in a collection of poems that we have here. Neil Noble’s life in forty-five fleeting glimpses of honesty, combined with fascination. The one thing that I have learned from Neil is that his poetry speaks from the heart about all sorts of issues, for example the many sides to love’s different philosophical thinking’s. 

I’m led to believe that Neil sets his poetry to music, unfortunately that side of his poetry cannot be visualized in book format, but what can be visualized in book format are the illustrations by Jingfang Wang that cleverly accompany the poems, which for me brings a sense of reality to this wonderful book of poetry, built and created around Neil’s life in all its guises.

Charlene Tess and Judi Thompson are sisters who co-write mystery, thriller and romance novels under the name Tess Thompson, I’ll leave all of you to figure out how they came up with the pen name, let’s say it’s not rocket science. They were born in El Paso, Texas. Their father was a pilot and aircraft mechanic, their mother was an elementary school principal.

Charlene is married to the love of her life Jerry; she has two daughters and three grandchildren at the last count. She was an English and creative writing teacher who wrote her own grammar workbooks and lessons. Her Highly acclaimed series of grammar eBooks, ‘Simple Steps to Sentence Sense,’ are widely used.

Judi on the other hand lives near Houston and is married to Roger, she has two sons and seven grandchildren. Before retiring she worked in education as a speech language pathologist, educational diagnostician and as a special education supervisor. Like Charlene, a busy lady so to speak.

The sisters began writing together in 2002, with the publication of Accidental Angel. They have written twenty-two novels and five series together. Charlene lives in Denver Colorado in the US and Judi lives near Houston in Texas. You might wonder how on earth do they manage to write the books, well a lot of Zoom meetings, emails, texts, and good old fashion phone calls plus Dropbox. Old ways combined with the latest technological advances seem to work for these sisters who are self-published on Amazon.com.

The Books

All the books in The Angel Fall Series are stand alone books and you can read them any order, ideally though I would suggest you read them in order of publication, for what makes them a series is the characters. While a lot of the books have very distinctive and separate storylines some of the characters are the same throughout the series but not necessarily in each book. Having said that the character Bella Morales, a blunt, self-opinionated, psychic takes centre stage in quiet a few of them. In this podcast we’re going to focus on two of the books that make up The Angel Falls series, so that you can get a feel for the series. Oddly enough we’re focusing on the first and the latest book, the ninth in the series. 

Angel Falls

The Story within this book is foretold across thirty-three chapters and two parts. The tension throughout the book is palpable like any good book should be. The characters are strong and highly developed as they take you on a twist-turning ride of psychic romance and intrigue. Just as you think you’re getting to grips with the story and the characters, Charlene and Judi twist the knife to unbalance you but keep your interest.

The narrative evolves around Russell’s loss of family from a tragic accident, he retreats to New Mexico Forest to come to terms with what has happened to his life. Maggie and her great-grandmother, psychic Bella own the resort he stumbles or possibly trespasses upon. For Russell life is about to change, equally so for Maggie, but who is sabotaging her business, why is love so complicated, what secrets lurk in Russell’s past and are those secrets devastating enough to make Maggie choose between her heart or cold hard facts. What role does Bella play in all this Drama, does she know what’s behind the knock on the door from the sheriff. Hmm…

Dark Flight

Thirty-one chapters of spine-tingling complex plots, twists and excitement lie between the pages of this ninth book in the series. Charlene Tess and her sister Judi Thompson are at it again with another psychic romance tale. ATF agent Matt Bentley’s past comes back to trouble him with the escape from a high-security prison of one of his former criminal offenders, Lyle. His escape means trouble for all involved in this sublimely written book as Lyle sets about an exhausting cycle of revenge. Gennie de Lange, being dyslexic, has drawn on the innate artistic gift she was given. She grew up during WWII in her grandparents’ vast house and forested garden. Being taken to the ballet to see Peter and the Wolf when she was tiny reinforced her beliefs which many children share that toys and animals understand everything. Born in New Zealand in 1942, Gennie received her training at Wellington Polytechnic, The Hammersmith and Middlesex School of Art and The Chelsea Pottery in London.

Her ceramic paintings have been exhibited in the USA, England, France and Switzerland as well as galleries in New Zealand. Talking about her ceramics, In New Zealand she ran pottery classes on a Saturday morning for children so that they could enjoy the art of creating things. 

Tales of war from her father were real. He had led a New Zealand dive bomber squadron, from which only half returned. The camaraderie, dare devil escapades, laughter, determination, and sacrifice that everybody was prepared to make and endure were part of life. Her father always felt he was here on borrowed time. It was her father’s stories from his war years that got Gennie interested in the history of war which made her aware of the goings on and why she delved so deeply into this subject matter.

For Gennie, life is a gamble. Being a ceramic artist, every time she puts her work in the kiln is a risk. The glazes that she paints with are all varying shades of powdery grey. After hours in the kiln at very high temperatures, her painted tiles emerge transformed like stained glass. Her exhibitions often sell out. The viewers relate to the subjects personally, and see the dramas of their own lives.

Now in her eighties, she has turned to using her own ceramic paintings as the background. The Observer, who is a worn velvet antique toy, views the devastation of war. The sale proceeds from this book (so far New Zealand only) are going to a family orphanage in Ukraine supporting children who have been separated from their parents. Gennie believes the young people of Ukraine will eventually have the spirit and determination to rebuild their country.

The Book

The book is a collection of fifty very short poems about the terrible effects of war on people and the devastation left behind.  Each poem is accompanied by a picture of a ceramic painting on a tile done by Gennie de Lange herself. The images closely correlate to the message in the poems. They are bright, gregarious and most of them have a worn velvet antique toy in them, known as The Observer.

The author’s work is intense and attested, yet parallel with an edge of innocent freakiness when it comes to the childhood toy named ‘The Observer. The simplicity of the child’s toy pitted against the horrors and devastation of war. While Gennie’s work covers the general theme of war, she does touch upon what is happening in Ukraine at the present time. 

The poems and the accompanying artwork tell the story of war brilliantly. 

The Observer

The Observer is nearly a hundred years old. My father-law bought him after he left medical school in the 1920s. He needed support through life, as a third of his medical class had died from infections. There were no antibiotics in those days. During WWII The Observer was posted to Cairo where the doctor ran a prisoner of war hospital. Most of the men were Italian tailors who made uniforms until they realized it was more fun designing and making glamourous evening clothes for those on leave. After the war The Observer stood on the mantelpiece of the doctor’s surgery room, listening to how people coped with the unexpected sadness and pain in their lives. Nearly eighty years later The Observer looks on with knowing eyes.

Anne Angelo was born in 1911 in Invergordon, Ross Shire (now Ross and Cromarty) Highlands, Scotland in what can only best be described as a difficult family set up. As a child she grew up in an environment of hatred, dejection, fear and other social dissent. life was hard back then in a society where children and young adults were to be seen, not heard and certainly not to be believed. Anne’s dream was to be a pharmacist, but a ruthless father blocked that opportunity by refusing her to go to Edinburgh to sit her pharmacy examines, instead opting for marrying her off. Thank goodness times have in many ways changed. As a young woman Anne’s life was fortuitously driven by events beyond her control, the war years of the second world war like for all that lived through those times were extremely tough. In 1944 Anne gave birth to Hugh who I have the privilege of talking to about the books she wrote, he recalls his mother typing the manuscript in London in 1949, just before they left for New Zealand in 1950, followed by upping sticks again to Australia in 1959 following Hugh’s father’s death. Over the years Anne worked on and off the manuscripts with the aid of a ghost writer, tragically Anne passed away in 1999, so the scripts lay untouched until lockdown in 2020, when Hugh rediscovered the files and decided to get them published in memory of his late mother Anne.

The Book

The Forbidden Zone 1940

This book is a continuation of the story of Anne Angelo’s experiences in the war years of the nineteen forties. Anne’s return to Lille in France, the ‘Phony war’ when she almost got killed driving ambulances. A romance with a dashing British Army Officer to whom she gave a sprig of white heather as a good luck memento. The romance was brief as the Germans invaded and closed the area as they prepared their invasion of England. Anne joined the French Resistance until she was betrayed to the Gestapo, she escaped home to Britain, where the dashing young Army Officer tracked her down with the sprig of white heather firmly in his grasp. Anne married the dashing British Army Officer who is Hugh’s father.

The book comprises thirty chapters of stimulating stories, some romantic, some hard-hitting and others simply telling what life for Anne was like in those days. It’s cleverly written, the pace and the tension are wonderfully balanced as the narrative reflects what people of that era had to endure, face and overcome. Every day was a battle to survive and only those lucky and strong-minded enough like Anne came out the other end.

The Night the Lights Went Out on Broadway

Matt Petosa works at the stage door for the Winter Garden Theatre. Everyday I’m greeted by him as I walk into the theatre. His kind, wise smile assures me that I am exactly where I’m meant to be and that everything is more than okay.

On March 13th, 2020, the Great White Way went dark for nearly two years, impacting one hundred thousand theatre employees from actors to stagehands and ushers. New York City without Broadway felt empty indeed.

This shut down was simply unprecedented. Broadway had stayed open through the Spanish Flu of 1812, two world wars and had only closed down once before, for two days after September 11th attacks.

The curtains fell on the longest shutdown in theatrical history. The only shining light that remained was the ghost light on each stage of every house. A beacon of hope in the tradition of “The Show Must Go On.”

These photographs represent those dark days.

The Book

Normally, I write a dossier to give you all and idea as to what to expect in the book or books. This book however is a collection of Matt Petosa’s stunning photography that portrays the empty theatres of Broadway New York during Covid-19 lockdown. These theatres would be bustling with audiences and famous actors treading the boards. When you look at quite a few of the photographs you’ll notice a light on the stage. These are the Ghost Lights that stood silent in the theatres as a beacon of hope that one day the theatres would reopen. Hence, part of the book title,’ 2020 The Ghost Light Year.’

Melisa Schonfield is a woman with a difference in her life. A difference, which up to a certain point was probably seen by those around her as an ideal middle-class American lifestyle. But one event that she says she was driven to, in order to protect her family changed all that. Did it! Most definitely. Melisa’s life before that occurrence was a devoted mother raising two successful children. She was the eldest of three, and only girl. Her father served in the Marines before supporting his family with a career in the cosmetic industry. Melissa was not always a New Yorker, she was born in Brooklyn and raised in northern New Jersey. She married a dentist, and for eight years played Army wife. Melisa graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in social work, that world was everything to her, she gained so much experience from the people she engaged with, her main focus was eventually in the field of psychotherapy, now that was an area, she had great affection for, but again one event but a stop to all that. What was this one event that changed Melisa’s life so much? A spell in prison! What for? Well, read the book to find out.

Life after prison is very different to what it was before, now divorced and with her licences to continue her work as a psychotherapist rescinded, Melisa now coaches people with some of their social and mental issues instead. Her daughter and grandson now live with her, and she has taken to writing with a more rigorous approach. This book is her documented viewpoint of circumstances that led up to her arrest, the trial and her experiences of New York state penal system. A gripping story from an author whose love of writing stems right back to her teenage years with her personal diaries which she kept under lock and key as a means of keeping her younger brothers’ beady eyes from seeing what she had written.

Why has Melisa written this book, for revenge! No. Would she liked to have said more! Yes. But for legal constraints and protective issues she’s given you a balanced view. Her real aim behind reason for publishing this book is to give hope and a voice to women who have been incarcerated for carrying out an act that they felt they had no other choice but to carry out. An act done to protect those they love.

The Book

There are nine chapters to this extraordinary book that lays bare the documented circumstances that led up to Melisa’s arrest, the trial procedures and the experiences of life behind bars in a New York State Prison. Some of you might debate my calculation of nine chapters as only eight are listed, but I’m including the one chapter in part three of the book as the nineth chapter for that’s how I see. For me the foreword and the preface: just the facts, are two fundamental sections of the book for they alone set the scene with clarity and punctiliousness.  The Chapters are written in such away that yes, there’s a story coming across, but equally the facts surrounding the story are given to you as well. I think, the areas of the book, which are exceptionally written, that I personally found compelling were the Foreword, Chapter 1: The Dream, Chapter 3: Mama Bear, chapter 8: Life at Taconic Correctional Facility in Bedford Hills, New York, and Part 3: The Light at the End of the Tunnel.

Is this book worth a read! Most definitely.

Scott Roux was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the US, he splits his time between Boulder City Nevada and Antigo a small rural community in Wisconsin. He has a deep faith that has sustained him throughout his life. He attended a Catholic school before serving in the military. Scott while working as a sales executive for twenty-seven years obtained a degree in Marketing from a California University, all achieved while supporting a family of two, a son and a daughter. 

The relationship he had with his biological mother a native American and the role a loving Grandmother played is interesting. Scott’s father was very much in the boys’ lives, but what he experienced in one of the worst rampage shootings in Wisconsin in November 2004 impacted all concerned. This event is talked about in the book.

Despite the many ups and downs in Scott’s life the event that had the most impact on his life was the road accident he endured when a two-ton truck collided with his car, the traumatic brain injury he suffered changed his life completely as he could no longer carry out many of the normal everyday life events he so much enjoyed. Scott is still adapting to a different life, the road to a full recovery has and continues to be a slow process. 

In 2020 while on a trip to the Grand Canyon with his daughter two eagles buzzed them from above, for Native Americans the spirit of the eagle is a powerful totem (hence it’s the symbol of America) Scott took their presence as a sign to start writing this book of his, so let’s turn to the book.

The events that unfold within the pages here are so profound and overpowering, that once read you can begin to understand how Scott’s life has been shaped and driven by these experiences.

The book is written with such amazing clarity, openness and frankness as Scott takes you on the journey of his life from birth to almost present day. When you look at the chapters, you’ll see Scott has chosen a quote from a variety of people to head them up, but each quote has some bearing to the contents within. Ultimately, Scott wants each of you to consider your own everyday meanings that impact your life, and how your past has influenced those meanings, and how the present impacts on them and how those every day meanings could influence your future. More importantly he wants you to momentarily reflect on three key areas that impact all our lives. Who am I? Why am I here? And what is life all about? 

Yes, Scott wants you to think about yourself and the chain of events that shape your very existence, but he’s done it in such a clever and highly imaginative way, all told against a backdrop of a confounding story about himself, which is riveting, tense and a real page-turner. 

The Native American connection is fascinating, hence the image on the cover. What is that connection? Well, you’ll have to read the book and watch the interview to find out for I’m not about to give that episode of his life away here.
