  • Pokemon Go 1 Year Anniversary
Pokemon Go has been live and out for 1 year. Chip and Cern have been hunting those Pokemon for the entire year. Time for a recap and summary of the last year. Talking the new gym updates, special events and hunt for filling the Pokedex.    Chip and Cern have lost some steam after the Gen 2 release. They have pretty much resulted to just spinning the first stop of the day to get the bonus and catching the first mon to get the catch bonus.    At the end of June Pokemon Go updated the gyms, fighting systems and added a few new features. In the old ways of the gym battling systems these maxed out level gyms would rule the roost and it was nearly impossible to take down solo. This really broke Chip and Cern’s spirits to play the gyms, which resulted in the lack of game play.    Some of the new updates to the gyms are:
    • Gyms can now be spinned for item rewards, similar to PokéStops
    • Gyms will now feature six permanent slots that can be filled by the controlling team’s Pokémon, and opposing teams will battle Pokémon in the order they were assigned to the Gym.
    • Trainers will receive Gym Badges are rewards for fighting at the Gym
    • Gym Defenders will lose motivation over time and when being defeated
    • Gym Defenders require Berry upkeep
    • Trainers will have the opportunity to virtually team up with others nearby and work together to defeat extremely powerful Pokémon known as Raid Bosses.
    • Before a Raid Battle begins, all Pokémon assigned to the Gym will return to their Trainers, and a large Egg will appear atop the Gym. When the countdown above the Egg reaches zero, the Raid Boss will be revealed.
    • Raid Boss rewards include: Rare Candies, Golden Razz Berries, and two types of Technical Machines—Fast and Charged
    • Raids have a 20 Player Limit and 5 Minute timer
    • Friends can also create Private Raid groups via a customizable code system that allows Trainers to invite their friends to a specific Raid group.
    • Technical Machines are items you can use to permanently teach a Pokémon a new Fast Attack or Charged Attack.
The new gym system is a big improvement in Chip and Cern’s view. They are playing a lot more and the gym battling has really improved.    For the new Raids feature it is pretty cool idea, but it is tough to get the amount of people needed to beat the big Pokemon. In the suburbs it is tough to find the 8 people or so that are needed to take it down.    Pokemon Go offered up a “Gift Box” special for 1200 coins during the 1 year anniversary. Chip and Cern did some math on this and it is a fucking rip off and not worth any value. Cern reads some funny tweets that people blasted Pokemon Go with during the event.    Chip and Cern speculate about what Pokemon Go could have done to make the 1 year anniversary a little better than the dud it was.    Are you guys still playing Pokemon Go? • 2017 MLB All-Star Game
The 2017 MLB All-Star Game and all the surround festivities have came and went. Chip and Cern share their thoughts on the game, Home Run Derby, line-ups, Cern and Tony’s All-Star Game experience in 2007 and more. There is also a really solid Brady Anderson tangent.    The show opens with Chip and Cern talking about how they don’t do any show prep, which everyone knows already. In 2007, Tony and Cern took a week off work for the 2007 All-Star Game at AT&T Park. They stayed the entire week at Chip’s apartment and it was a great time. Home Run Derby was top notch, Cern shook Cal Ripken’s hand, Tony Gwynn (RIP, RIP) and more.   The Home Run Derby changed the game play rules a few years back and it has really improved the game.   The lineup for the 2017 Home Run Derby is and the results are included:   American League   Miguel Sano — Minnesota Twins, 21 HRs Aaron Judge — New York Yankees, 30 HRs Gary Sanchez — New York Yankees,13 HRs Mike Moustakas — Kansas City Royals, 25 HRs   National League   Giancarlo Stanton — Miami Marlins, 26 HRs Cody Bellinger — Los Angeles Dodgers, 25 HRs Justin Bour — Miami Marlins, 20 HRs Charlie Blackmon — Colorado Rockies, 21 HRs Here is the 2017 MLB All-Star Game Lineup:   American League Starters   First Base: Justin Smoak, Toronto Blue Jays Second Base: Jose Altuve, Houston Astros Shortstop: Carlos Correa, Houston Astros Third Base: Jose Ramirez, Cleveland Indians Catcher: Salvador Perez, Kansas City Royals   Outfielder: Aaron Judge, New York Yankees   Outfielder: Mookie Betts*, Boston Red Sox (*replaced Mike Trout in the AL starting lineup) Outfielder: George Springer, Houston Astros Designated Hitter: Corey Dickerson, Tampa Bay Rays   Pitchers: SP Chris Sale, BOS SP Dallas Keuchel, HOU SP Ervin Santana, MIN SP Jason Vargas, KC SP Luis Severino, NYY SP Yu Darvish** ,TEX SP Michael Fulmer**, DET SP Corey Kluber**, CLE SP Lance McCullers Jr., HOU RP Craig Kimbrel, BOS RP Andrew Miller, CLE RP Dellin Betances, NYY SP Chris Archer***, TB RP Chris Devenski***, HOU RP Brandon Kintzler***, MIN RP Roberto Osuna***,TOR * Injured ** Starting on Sunday so unable to pitch in ASG *** Replacement   RESERVES C Gary Sanchez, NYY 1B Yonder Alonso, OAK 2B Starlin Castro**,NYY 2B Jonathan Schoop, BAL 2B Robinson Cano***, SEA 3B Miguel Sano, MIN 3B Mike Moustakas*, KC SS Francisco Lindor, CLE OF Avisail Garcia, CWS OF Michael Brantley, CLE OF Justin Upton***, DET DH Nelson Cruz, SEA * "Final Vote" winner in AL ** Injured *** Replacement   National League Starters   First Base: Ryan Zimmerman, Washington Nationals Second Base: Daniel Murphy, Washington Nationals Shortstop: Zack Cozart, Cincinnati Reds Third Base: Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies Catcher: Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants Outfielder: Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals Outfielder: Charlie Blackmon, Colorado Rockies Outfielder: Marcell Ozuna, Miami Marlins   Pitchers:   SP Clayton Kershaw*, LAD SP Max Scherzer, WSH SP Robbie Ray, ARI SP Zack Greinke, ARI SP Carlos Martinez, STL SP Stephen Strasburg, WSH RP Kenley Jansen, LAD RP Greg Holland, COL RP Wade Davis, CHC RP Brad Hand, SD RP Corey Knebel, MIL RP Pat Neshek, PHI SP Alex Wood**,LAD * Starting Sunday so unable to pitch   ** Replacement     RESERVES C Yadier Molina, STL 1B Paul Goldschmidt, ARI 1B Joey Votto, CIN 2B DJ LeMahieu, COL 2B Josh Harrison, PIT 3B Jake Lamb, ARI 3B Justin Turner*, LAD SS Corey Seager, LAD OF Cody Bellinger, LAD OF Giancarlo Stanton, MIA OF Michael Conforto, NYM OF Ender Inciarte, ATL * "Final Vote" winner in NL   Chip then poses the question to Cern about what % of MLB players are using PED’s. Cern estimates 10% and Chip would co-sign this.    This throws Chip and Cern into a Brady Anderson tangent.    Chip gives Stat Boy Dana some props on a fantasy baseball battle which didn’t end well for Chip.   How did your picks for the Home Run Derby go? • Fantasy Baseball Update/ New York Trip
Nearly halfway through the Fantasy Baseball season and Chip and Cern are providing an update. Already a few beers deep, but enjoying some tall can IPAs. Cern fills everyone in on the standings of the league and Chip and Cern aren’t sitting too pretty. Tony, Joe and Dana are all in the top 5 of the league and Chip and Cern are in the bottom gutter.    In order to validate the sucky-ness of their teams Chip and Cern go into the various excuses why they are doing so poorly. Chip had MadBum on his squad who in on the 90 day DL with some dirt bike accident.    Cern used to play in a league where it would require the weeks lineup to be set on Sunday. Sometimes that would really burn you if someone was to hit the DL.    Chip and Cern discuss their strategy, which prob isn’t valuable to listen to because they both suck.    Chip and Cern then take a tangent to all the beers they enjoyed before recording this podcast.    In another tangent turn, California bars and night clubs have the option to stay open until 4am.   This starts the “when we were 21 in New York we drank until 4am” stories.    Tony’s family invited 21 year old Chip and Cern to go on vacation with them. Nobody can even recall why they thought that was a good idea.    Cern is telling stories that Chip has no memory of anything.   Chip then throws out a hypothetical of running it back to New York with Chip, Cern, Joe, Dana and Tony. They then get into talking about how big of shit show it would be. The itinerary would be baseball games and getting drunk.    Do you have any fantasy sports tips for Chip and Cern? • Amazon Buys Whole Foods
Everyone’s favorite online retailer Amazon purchased Whole Foods Market for 13.7 billion dollars. Chip already missed one sound drop within the first 2 mins of the show. Cern has intel that Albertsons was also rumored to be in the hunt for Whole Foods. Amazon’s stock has hit a 52 week high trading at nearly $1k a share. Chip and Cern are going to go in one share of Amazon stock.    Whole Foods has 430 something stores which Chip and Cern believe will be a big play for the Amazon Fresh arm of Amazon. Amazon Fresh is groceries where you can get anything to eat. Fruits, veggies, meat, cheese, along with all non perishables.    The Amazon Go store in Seattle, WA has perked Chip and Cern’s interest and want to visit. Basically the Amazon Go store is a checkout free store. Literally walk in, grab a sandwich, some groceries and a drink and just walk out. You scan a barcode to start your shopping experience and grab anything you like and walk out. It will then charge your account. No checkout, no human interaction, sounds great.    Cern doesn’t really shop at Whole Foods that often, but he will stop by to grab something quick. If you remember the Dana’s Bachelor Party Recap episode Chip, Cern, Dana, Joe and some other slap dicks drank at the Whole Foods outdoor beer garden.    Amazon has totally changed the way people shop, not just online, but in store as well. This purchase of Whole Foods will change the way people shop for groceries. Cern thinks that this purchase is a play at Amazon going after and taking market share from Wal-Mart.    Chip has sold some stuff on Amazon and it is pretty easy.   Have you used Amazon Fresh? • Bill Cosby Trial
Chip and Cern have brought Alexa on board for a try out as a 3rd mic. Chip and Cern have about a dozen Amazon Alexa’s between them two. At the time of recording this was breaking, not fake, news. Bill Cosby’s trial has reached a verdict.    Both Chip and Cern thought this trial would be a slam dunk and the 79 year old comedian actor would be locked away for the rest of his life. There was about 58 accusations of sexual assault, or other related sexual harassments. These accusations started back in the mid 1960’s.   The verdict was a mistrial and Cosby walks free.    Cosby’s wife, Camille, was a strong supporter of Cosby throughout the accusations and trials. Both Chip and Cern were puzzled and seriously questioned that she had no idea that this stuff was happening. Cern says Cosby would host annual parties at the Playboy Mansion, which according to Wikipedia is true. No #fakenews here.   Chip recalls a creep clip from The Cosby Show where Cliff Huxtable made a special juice or sauce that made women really horny. Also he had his “Spanish Fly” comedy bit.    Chip is really rocking the Wikipedia facts this show. No haters on the YouTube comments this week!   Cern tries to derail the pod by bringing up that George Lopez got divorced for hookers, but after a quick internet search there were limited facts to support that.    Chip isn’t totally surprised about the mistrial because it was so long ago that this happened. No rape kits, Snapchat, photographs, etc.    Do you think Cosby is guilty? • Top Baseball Movies
A friend of the show @RZCole wrote an article on his Medium blog “Is the Kid Ready for Bull Durham” and Chip and Cern weigh in on this. RZ Cole’s son is 8 years old, so he is vetting if these classic baseball movies are ready for viewing by a youngster.    Sandlot Of course, Chip and Cern co-sign this movie. So many great scenes, lines and generally awesome movie. For an 8-year-old there might be some things to explain, but overall a great movie.    A League of Their Own Chip drops a #truthbomb that he hasn’t ever seen this movie. Cern actually likes the movie and says it has some decent lines in it. Cern gives his co-sign and Chip vows to watch this movie.    The Bad News Bears  A classic example of a movie that would never be made in today’s climate. Cern was just sharing a story that he cannot even question a call of the umpires at Little League games today, let alone smoke cigs and drink beers in the dugout. This movie might be a little slow for 8 years old, but overall worth the watch.    Field of Dreams Chip and Cern auto co-sign this movie based on the lines that people are always quoting in life and the kid needs that context. Kevin Costner loves to be in baseball movies and he does seem to have a love of the game.    42 Both Chip and Cern haven’t seen this movie. For some reason, they didn’t really feel the need to see the movie or want to see it. Maybe because they know the story and have been doing book reports and essays on Jackie Robinson since youth. For an 8-year-old it might be a good history lesson who didn’t grow up learning all about how big of a deal Jackie Robinson was to the game of baseball. On Rotten Tomatoes “42” scored a 79%.    Bull Durham In Chip and Cern’s eyes, this is the baseball movie to end all baseball movies. Yes, 8 years old is a little young to deal with some of the off the field deals of minor league baseball. Might be a good one to catch on cable TV where some of the racier stuff is cut. Chip says this is in his top 10 all time movies.    Honorable Mention   Fever Pitch Chip and Cern come out of the gate with some hate on this movie. RZ Cole’s stance on this movie was to get a significant other into baseball or at least warmed up to the idea. Chip and Cern still wouldn’t bite with this theory. Scored a 65% on Rotten Tomatoes.    What RZ Cole missed in Chip and Cern’s eyes. Cern has been talking about The Natural all podcast and that was a big hole in this list. Chip would have liked to see For the Love of the Game, Major League, and a few others, but for a 8-year-old those are a little bit more adult.    Be sure to check out RZ Cole on Twitter and on Medium for his newest writings.    Be sure to spread the word around and tell your friends about the Chip and Cern Show. • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Review
Chip and Cern finally got around to watching Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. They already admitted defeat on the Star Wars knowledge front, humbled themselves and called in a reliever. Welcome Chris from Man Points! Podcast. Rotten Tomatoes score 85% on the Tomatometer and 87% audience score.   Rogue One fits into the Star Wars Universe as movie 3.5 after Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.     ***SPOILERS TO FOLLOW***   Straight away Chris drops some serious Star Wars knowledge bombs to the podcast. Everyone really took exception on Forrest Whitaker’s character and the way it was played. Just didn’t seem to really fit in there at all.    Chip really didn’t like the blind guy and how much ass he was able to kick ass. Chris thought he was a cool character and Cern was also all in on him.    Darth Vader was, as usual, super bad ass in the movie and was loved all around the podcast.    Cern is perplexed by the amount of people that talk shit to Vader because he always fucks people up.    In Rogue One they used CGI to recreate a few deceased actors. The general thoughts were that he was overused for some parts, but it was really cool to see the technology. The Princess Leia camo/ CGI was spot on and perfectly executed.    K-2SO was Chip’s favorite character in the movie. He was way better than C-3PO in every aspect.   Chris, from Man Points Podcast, loved Cassian Andor and his grittiness. He appreciated that they showed more realness of war and the fact that Cassian has done some shit in his life.    Be sure to check out Chris on Man Points Podcast on Twitter (@TacoBellPicasso). • Chip's Vacation Recap
Chip went on a (childless) cruise on the open seas for about 7 days. Unlimited drinking package, food and did he mention no kid? Hear the recap, all about Harry Potter land in Florida and all about Chip’s vacation on this recap.    On a Friday Chip and his wife left for Florida from San Francisco to enjoy 9 days of vacation. Friday was travel, and Saturday was spent at Universal Studios and more specifically the Harry Potter area.  The Florida weather, walking around all day, and just general being outside all day Chip and his Mrs. was in need or a beer. Chip’s wife got a few Butter Beers (which isn’t actually beer), and Chip really wanted to quench his thirst after a loopy roller coaster, but there was no Butter Beer left after his wife polished it off.   After a big day walking around at the theme park Chip and his wife went to Yardhouse to quench their thirst and enjoy some half decent food. At Yardhouse they were surrounded by idiot amateurs drinking out of the half yard glasses like a couple of rookies. The couple next to Chip was on maybe a 3rd date or something, but not totally sure. He comes to the bar and asked the bartender for a cinnamon beer. He was honestly surprised by this answer and really taken back. Then he just picked a random beer off the tap and ordered that. It came served in a goblet and this was really thrown off and appalled by the glass it was served in. This really upset Chip because he just tried to order a Big Red beer off the menu.   Chip and his wife got some free hotel credit and got served a massive cheese plate with no crackers or vessel for the cheese to be served on. The lady brought up 8 packs of saltines crackers that you usually get with your cheap ass soup.    Finally, Chip get’s to tell the story about the cruise which was 7/9 days of the vacation.    Chip, his wife and their new cruise friends all had the unlimited cruise package, so lots of drinking was had. Chip and his new cruise friend drank a few bars out of Dos Equis which was the beer of choice for Chip. In the spa early on Chip and his new bestie were doing some calculations on how to eat into the cruise ship’s booze profits on the unlimited drink package.    The cruise stopped at the Bahamas, US Virgin Islands and St. Martens. On one stop Chip was very intrigued by some island marketing that said “2 beers and 1 cigar for $2.99.” 6 beers, and a few dresses and more souvenirs later they were on their way out of the store.    Cern and his wife went on a cruise for their honeymoon a few year ago. They were off the coast of Mexico. Cern didn’t spring for the unlimited drink package because it would have been drinking solo. Cern did a shot with a retailer in Mexico before buying a purse for his wife. That must have closed the deal.    A big part of the vacation for Chip was the ability to catch some regional Pokemon that aren’t available in any other part of the world. Chip had Cern’s log in info for Pokemon so he could catch them for Cern. After much hunting Chip was able to secure two rare Pokemon for Cern. At Airport Beach in St. Maarten Chip scored a rare one for Cern. Vacation success.    Cern’s wife once bought him a Horchata Rockstar energy drink that has actual Horchata in it mixed with some Rockstar stuff. If you have tried this we want to know. • A-Rod's Notes #pulloutstuff
Alex Rodriguez made his broadcast booth debut at the Yankees and Royals game and came prepared with some notes in a ruled notebook. Chip and Cern dig into some notes that are visible via a Tweet from the official Fox Sports Net Twitter account. A-Rod fails to write in between the lines or have any regard for anything on the paper. There are some curious notes on there that reads:    CHILD:
    • Birth control
    • Baby
    • Pull out stuff
https://twitter.com/dfank_BU/status/865309217233797120/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fdeadspin.com%2Fajax%2Finset%2Fiframe%3Fid%3Dtwitter-865309217233797120%26autosize%3D1   Chip and Cern are really scratching their heads over this one from A-Rod. Chip shoots out the theory that one of A-Rod’s kids are about to get the sex talk and A-Rod is gonna school them on his wise ways of the #pulloutstuff.   Cern suggests that it might be A-Rod’s mantra that he uses to gain focus before some big events.    Chip and Cern dig into when is the right age to start bringing up the sex talk to kids. That evidence, along with Chip’s “sex talk” theory really seems to be the correct answer here.    What do you think A-Rod meant by his notes in his book?
