Everyone has an area of specialization. Some are great with numbers and become bankers, C.P.A.'s, math teachers, and negotiators. Others are gifted athletes and become professional ballplayers. Some love nature and make great farmers. Some specialize in communication and work in media, or become politicians, and maybe even preachers.

God specializes in impossibilities.

Over the past 5 weeks, we've gone over times when Jesus had brought peace during times of chaos. This week, we finish up the series as we look at the single greatest event when Jesus brought peace to a world in chaos.

In each of those stories, there’s the moment of chaos and Jesus providing peace. But how does Jesus calm chaos that has been a part of our lives for a long time - those in chronic chaos. Maybe that’s you - it holds you back, you used to pray about it, but now you’ve given up. You’ve lived with it for years, it bugs you, but now you just ignore it. You’re a little angry with God, you do you’re best to call it normal, it’s your normal, but it’s not normal.

The scribes and Pharisees of Jesus' day had laid down a trap for Him. This was in order to either jail Him, or invalidate His teachings. Jesus turns it back on them.

The reason for chaos varies. My chaos usually comes from financial pressures, adult children decisions, the health of this church. Your chaos may be different, some things on your list would not be on mine and there are things on my list that would not be on yours.

Most just simply try to avoid chaos. Some deal with so much chaos with kids, instead of dealing with issues, you avoid them by enrolling them in as many activities as you can. For some, there’s marriage chaos so you work more and longer to avoid dealing with it. Some never learn how to relate to each other because you watch TV to avoid chaos. Some avoid chaos by keeping everyone at arms length - your kids feel it, your spouse and friends know it, you do it because you’re trying to stay out of the mess.

Everyone has chaos happening at some level. You may feel chaos politically in our world, or chaos due to racism or social injustice. Kids are back in school and you’re wondering what ever happened to summer. God has been dealing with people in chaos since the first two people were created.

Some habits are healthy and some are unhealthy. There are three components to every habit: The Cue, the behavior, and the reward.

Have you ever started a diet on Monday and it ends at about noon on Monday? Or you say, “i’m not going to say it, I’m not going to say it,” and before you know it your saying it. Why? Why do we look at stuff when we vowed to never look at it again. Why do we lose our cool with our kids and we said we weren’t going to do that again.

My kids were in town last weekend, one of the things they love to do is “Grill & Chill”, which is code for “let’s get the family together, grill steaks, fry shrimp, play 42, and have a good time.” I love doing that kind of thing and this is such a great time of the year to throw a party - there’s Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Most people like a good party and most want to be invited to the party.
