Mike and Tina make the journey from Cincinnati to Athens to have a chat with Weston Lombard, the Executive Director of the 10th annual Ohio Brew Week along with board member Jody Grenert. Here how the festival went from it’s organizers going around Ohio in a U-Haul truck collecting kegs from brewers, to the states touchstone event for both craft brewers and craft beer lovers.

All roads in Cincinnati craft beer have been said to lead to Listermann Brewing Company, and that’s a statement that’s hard to argue with.  Listermann Manufacturing Co has been the leading homebrew supply store in the city since they first opened their doors back in 1995, so it only made sense that this episode of Cincy Brewcast should be done live from their hallowed taproom on Dana Avenue.

We talked ourselves through a ton of topics such as where Listermann sees themselves in Cincinnati’s ever growing and evolving beer scene, to the current expansion that is underway at the brewery (and in the taproom).  We also drank a few Listermann beers and chatted about the many sides to their tap lineup.

It’s our first ‘official’ show on location, and it’s a perfect space to have it in… It’s hard to find a place like Listermann Brewing Company in any beer city, and there definitely isn’t another place like it in Cincinnati!

This week we meet Ron Sanders and Eric Bosler, the founders up the upcoming Darkness Brewing in Bellevue, KY. Ron and Eric are hoping for an early autumn debut, but they are already in their space and preparing things!

Find out why some of what you may have heard or read (brewing only dark beers, a reliance on crowd funding) may or may not be completely true.

If that’s not enough, we’ll also try some of their homebrew, which (spoiler) is outstanding… and definitely not dark. We also drink some beers from Rivertown, Quaff Brothers, Moerlein and MadTree. It’s action packed.

Let’s sit down and have a chat this episode with one of our newest favorite groups of people… Brewhaus Dog Bones. We meet Lisa Graham the founder and driving force behind the non-profit and we learn how she took an idea that she got during a visit to a San Diego craft brewery and in less than a year has turned it into an amazing educational opportunity for our area’s developmentally disabled young adults.

We also bring into the studio Cheryl Henkel, a Special Education teacher and Allen Moellman from Listermann to tell us about their unique contributions to the program.

Of course… none of this would be the same if we didn’t have a beer or two along the way!
