Cinema is full of fresh starts, bold transformations, and second chances. This week on CinemaJaw, we’re diving into our Top 5 Character Rebirths or Second Acts. Whether it’s Gandalf’s rise as the White Wizard or Neo breaking free from the Matrix, we’re spotlighting characters who were reborn to rewrite their destinies.
On the review front, we step into the world of Emilia Pérez, Jacques Audiard’s bold and funky crime-meets-musical tale of identity and transformation. Does this genre-bending story hit the high notes, or does it get lost in its own groove? Plus, we celebrate Zoe Saldana in this week’s trivia challenge and give a shout-out to the one and only Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as our featured star of the month. Packed jaw? You better believe it!

Reviewed: Memoir of a Snail, Blitz, A Real Pain
CinemaJaw is back this week with a lineup that’ll take you from the heartbreakingly slow to the painfully funny—literally! We’re diving into three films that bring their own unique twist to storytelling: Memoir of a Snail, Blitz, and A Real Pain. This episode has it all—whether you’re looking to ponder life’s big questions at a snail’s pace, or laugh (and cringe) at family drama, we’ve got you covered.
First up, Memoir of a Snail. Directed by stop-motion mastermind Adam Elliot, this is a film that says, “Slow down!” and really means it. We follow the journey of Grace Pudel and her little snail buddies through a story that’s equal parts tragic, hilarious, and, yeah, a bit weird. Is it worth inching along for this arthouse experience, or should we leave it in the garden? You’ll have to listen to find out!
Then there’s Blitz. Set during the tumultuous years of WWII, with a cast that takes no prisoners. If Memoir of a Snail is all about slowing down, Blitz is here to speed things right back up!
Finally, we dive into A Real Pain, the latest dark comedy from Jesse Eisenberg, who both directs and stars alongside Kieran Culkin. Let’s just say that if you’ve ever been on a family trip that went south, you’ll feel right at home here. Is this film “painfully” good, or is it just… a real pain?
PLUS! Each host pairs each review with a “double feature”, another movie to put on your queue that pairs nicely.
So grab your popcorn, hit play, and get ready for an episode that’s all about the speed, the laughs, and the heartfelt moments. Let’s dive in!

Reviewed: Terrifier 3, Sleepy Hollow
The fog rolls in low, the branches creak in the dark forest, and scattered leaves float on the breeze. The atmosphere of Fall is heavy this Halloween season, so this week on CinemaJaw we take a look at our Top 5 Atmospheric Horror Movies.
We do this in honor of our retro review, we celebrated its director all last month, of Sleepy Hollow. Does this Burton/Depp vehicle hold up after 25 years?
But we also have something new for you as well. Art the Clown is back for another swing in the surprise hit Terrifier 3 (out now). We peel back the wrapper to see if this indie blood bath has guts, or is it just empty gore?
It’s a jam-packed jaw as always.

This episode marks 15 years of CinemaJaw. What a wild and amazing journey. Here’s to 15 more!
This week on the show we have a duo of reviews for you… but do they have chemistry? So much is made about a duo of actors that perform in a dual lead when they seem to “click” or have “chemistry” as they say. The performances feel that much better. This week in honor of our review of We Live In Time (Andrew Garfield/Florence Pugh) we are delving into dynamic duos that bring that spark when united, with our Top 5 Chemistry Duos in Film.
We have an additional review of the new Saoirse Ronan vehicle, The Outrun, and no – it’s not based on the 80s racing video game.

Reviewed: Wolfs, Alien Weekend, Super/Man: the Christopher Reeve Story
In this episode, we delve into some duos.
In honor of our review of the new film, Wolfs (no typo), which sees George Clooney and Brad Pitt reunited on the silver screen (and it feels so good), we are choosing our top 5 from their combined Filmographies.
To unpack this dynamic screen duo of Pitt and Clooney, we bring in our own Screen duo of Krueger and King, betrothed collaborators with a fresh film on Amazon Prime!
Jada Krueger is an actress born and raised in IL. Her passion for acting began at 14 when she performed in her high school’s plays and musicals. After that, she studied at the Second City (formerly Harold Ramis) Film School in Chicago and later took acting classes at The Green Shirt Studio. In 2023, Jada was cast as the lead role, Violet in Alien Weekend created by Taylor King. Alien Weekend is her first leading role in a feature film. Soon, she will be seen leading in 3 more feature films, and she is going on to her first series beginning in October.
Her Fiance Taylor King was born in Torrance California, opting out of film school to start a production company, New Zealand Son Films, with his father Sean King in 2015. Taylor has produced over 20 films and television series half of which he has written and directed. He is about to start production on “The Salem Sisters”, a 12-episode series following the story of three young witches.
These are a pair of filmmakers to follow, and I do recommend Alien Weekend!

Joining us is a very special guest, Ali from Ali’s Reptile Den. Ali is a lifelong animal enthusiast who, growing up, idolized legendary conservationists like Jungle Jack Hannah, Steve Irwin, and more. Today, as an adult, his love for these incredible creatures has only grown stronger and he’s made it his mission to carry forward the legacies of his heroes by inspiring and educating others about the crucial importance of protecting our planet’s diverse biodiversity.
Of course we are also plugging our upcoming collaboration with Ali, The Music Box of Horrors, and Shudder – on October 8th we are co-presenting a special screening of the cult snake movie, Ssssssss (don’t say it hiss it). Here’s the skinny on that and a link:
