  • 2805: Call your mother!
Minneapolis city sounds reimagined by Tom Miller.
"The continuous ringing of telephone bells against a background of traffic noise urges us to fulfil our filial obligations as we are reminded of the unbreakable maternal bond; yet they remain unanswered.
"Eventually another voice rises in counterpoint, asserting the right to ignore the call, but the summoning remains insistent as the bells morph into an urban technofuture in which motherly love is expressed through means of electrocommunication."

  • 2803: 講文明 樹新風
Suzhou bus ride reimagined by Marg Laing.
I heard the music of persistence midst decay, driving forward. The bus rattling, heaving and sighing like waves, while a voice cries out, its slogan repeats and even with translation is perplexing. Yet it is strikingly evocative "stress a civilisation, plant a new culture".
Everything you hear is an element from the original field recording that has been reorganised, stretched or looped. No additional content has been added.

  • 2802: Stress a civilisation, plant a new culture
The recording was rendered on a public bus from Suzhou city centre (China) to the ancient Tiger Hill Pagoda (Huqiu 虎丘).
While an automated announcement in both Mandarin and the Suzhou dialect is aired from one stop to another, constant rattles from a seat compartment are heard alongside with the vehicle motion.
However, the lasting impression of this sound event is the repetitious
slogan, "stress a civilisation, plant a new culture" (講文明 樹新風). Recorded by O. W. Chow.

  • 2801: At the heart of Santiago
Santiago's Plaza de Armas reimagined by Andy Lyon.
"The recording captured a range of activities and a diverse range of sounds.
"It has quite a laid back feeling and I've created a fairly minimal arrangement to compliment and contrast the mood.  I've used a variety of Spitfire Audio libraries, Go2 synth by Rob Papen and a range of Eventide Effects."

  • 2800: Plaza de Armas, Santiago

  • 2799: Oxford Birdy Num Num
Oxford Shotover Park reimagined by Alan Kirker.
"The syncopated bird song in the original field recording stood out and serendipitously matched a drum loop with a few tweaks. Slightly edgy ethereal atmospheric loops were then added to lend a futuristic feel.
"The Peter Sellers voice sample softens the underlying message:
We must look after our feathered friends as they are integral to healthy, biodiverse cities and towns now and into the future."

  • 2797: City Imaginaries
Parisian street soundscape reimagined by Anthony Miller.
"I imagined the future city as a dystopian place and wanted to represent echoes of the past in amongst that desolation. I used the segment of the sound of people and car horns. That is the sound that sticks in my memory of being awake at night in the city listening to the street sounds below. "

  • 2795: Another school year begins
Mukuru primary school reimagined by Connie Lim Keh Nie and Tan Yi Lee.
"Upon arrival, friends greeting with each other with a big smile, running and skipping with rhythms, dancing to the beat of the dance to welcome a new beginning.
"Buzz of several-hundred voices hummed like an orchestra, playful and noisy chatter, bustling and hustling down the corridors, register called, school days begins in Muruku school."
