  • 2798: When city and country collide
Shotover is a country park within a city - a beautiful place for a forest walk within the boundaries of the city's ring road. While Oxford is lucky to have so many green spaces within its city limits, you're always reminded that you're in an urban space, as the gentle throb of traffic pervades, and here we're also in the flight path with an aeroplane passing overhead to interrupt the reverie. Recorded by Cities and Memory.

  • 2793: Poorly-translated forecast at Osaka train station
Umeda train station reimagined by AJ Born.
"How will life in cities change in future? I can imagine that the sound of Osakas most busy train station now can be any train station of the world in future.
"Maybe a bit more noise, which I added to the original sound (I got it from modifications of the original sound). And we will hear some new electronic sounds of things that will be invented in future.
"Many things came into my mind when I thought about the future in cities and I wrote a short text about it - in German.
"I thought that we will use automatic translation functions in future, which I simulated here (and I just took the translation and added it and didn't check if it makes any sense)."

  • 2788: Limassol
Farmers' market reimagined by Poly Graphi.
"Having been to Limassol before I know that it is a very fast moving seaside city. The main town road runs along the seafront for around 26 kilometres and it is is always bustling with activity. I wanted the piece to reflect this.
"The sound came from a farmers' market which is a traditional thing and quite different from the hustle and bustle of the city.
"I used a few parts of people talking and laughing to show the human interaction that is all part of a market with the backdrop of the energised drums to signify an energised city.
"Many of the instruments and drums were created from small samples so there was quite a bit of sound design involved."

  • 2789: Bahnhof: Above, Below
Steglitz Bahnhof reimagined by Gretchen Jude.
"The word "reverie" in the title of the original field recording inspired me to create an otherworldly sound that emerges out from under/floats down from above the everyday sonic environment of this snippet of Berlin.
"I love the transformative nature of musical sound, the ways that listening attention can bring about transcendent states of experience, and I aimed to achieve that here."

  • 2790: Traces (Kandy)
Kandy traffic sounds reimagined by Wayne Mercier.
"From the original description of the sound: "a valiant effort to maintain order at the corner".
"All sounds used were processed from the original recording and the final production contains the entire original. Bits and pieces were stretched, granulated, chopped, resonated, delayed, distorted and layered.
"Each honk, rumble, toot, and whistle is a bit of a life in passage, concatenating together. A valiant effort to maintain order at the corner."
