Starting to feel like another school year upon us...getting busier around campus, to be sure. Tonight's featured live session was with UBC and Discorder alumnus Scott Rudd, who's in town to visit family. He is currently based in Brooklyn, and has a gig at the Railway Club Aug. 30.
A very eclectic and post-full moon sorta playlist tonight. Tell me what you think?
Thanks so much for listening, and thanks for your support of campus/community radio.

    Till next week!

A lovely show tonight, starting with a phone chat to Malcolm Holcombe. He was kind enough to phone in live from several time zones away, so forgive him if he sounds a bit weary. Do see him Aug. 19 at the Railway Club here in Vancouver.
Tonight's live session was with local actor/musician/activist Scott Perrie. He celebrates his new ep with a show Aug. 16 at the Backstage Lounge.
Some welcome rain has arrived here in Metro Vancouver - time to hunker down inside and check out some live music! Thanks as always for listening, and hope you'll tune in next week.

    cheers, val

How's everybody doin'? Here in Vancouver we're breaking records for sunniest and driest July ever. Tonight's featured interview was with Australian Jordie Lane, currently nearing end of his first cross-Canada tour. Nice guy!
To end the show: as it's second of three nights of Vancouver's annual fireworks competition, I did my annual spin of "Indoor Fireworks".
May your long weekend be safe, and hope there's some live music in there somewhere..
    Thanks as always for listening!

Warm enough for ya? ;-) We're days away from setting a record for driest July ever here in Vancouver. "Summer Fires" seemed like a good tune to start with tonight. Tonight's interview was with Victoria-based quartet West My Friend, who are touring the West Coast over the next few weeks. More festival features included vintage vinyl from Dick Gaughan and Valdy! Phew, it is warm in this studio so I shall bid you adieu and thank you again for listening. See you next week!

We're days away from the annual Vancouver Folk Music Festival. Weather looks like it'll be fabulous, and the music will be as well. We had a chat with Jayme Stone, who will be at Folk Fest with a very interesting Alan Lomax project. We also chatted to Jeremy Allingham of Factories and Alleyways, who have a CD release party on July 20 at the Biltmore Cabaret.
And, as we have done for many weeks, we featured more festivals; Artswells (Wells, BC) and the South Country Fair (Fort Macleod, AB). So many festivals, so little time! :-)
Congrats to Erin, who won 2 day passes to the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. If you're at VFMF, please stop by the CiTR tent and say hi.
Have a fun and safe weekend, all!

Happy summer! Special shout-out to you soggy folks in Toronto, hope you're much drier. You too, Alberta! Here on the West Coast we're enjoying the sunshine and festivals, festivals, festivals. Some of which were featured on tonight's show. Near top of show we chatted with Cory Woodward about his new project The Lion The Bear The Fox. They'll be at Khatsahlahno! Festival this coming Saturday (July 13). Later in show we chatted with Jon Davis, who's touring across Canada, and playing at the Railway Club July 11.
Hope you enjoy tonight's show, and I'd love to hear from you! Thanks so much for listening

How's everybody's summer going? We in Vancouver had a heatwave (by our standards...we are wilting wimps, mind you) over our July 1 weekend. Somehow we survived!
Tonight I featured several festivals (Vancouver Folk, Mission Folk, True North Fraser Bluegrass) and a set in the last 1/2 hour to honour my American friends. Two versions of "America the Beautiful", and I'm sure you will figure out which version I prefer..
Have a safe and happy July 4th weekend, and careful of that strong sun!

    cheers, val the shade-seeker

Now that we're firmly, and officially, into summer (local weather be damned..) Folk Oasis continues down the road of summer festivals. We had a nice chat with the artistic director of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival, Linda Tanaka. Less than one month before the big event! (July 19-21)
Other festivals profiled tonight include events in Bella Coola, BC + Darrington, WA.

To wrap up the show I played two new tunes which, in their own ways, are anthems to Canada. Enjoy! And have a safe and happy Canada Day weekend, woncha?

    Thanks, as always, for listening!

    cheers, val

Back from Friendly Manitoba! Had a great time at the National Campus & Community Radio conference. So many bright, engaged folks involved in the same kind of programming that we offer here at CiTR. Thanks again to GAK for last week's podcast.
This week, the usual mix of new (mostly Canadian) releases. Tonight's special live session featured 18 year-old fiddler and stepdancer Jocelyn Pettit, who lives in Squamish. Extremely engaging, poised and talented. Hope you enjoy this one - she did a great job.
Until next time, enjoy summer (officially here this weekend!) and thanks again for listening.

    cheers, val

Thanks so much to Gary Karhonen (aka GAK) for filling in while I was at the National Campus and Community Radio conference in Winnipeg. From the looks of the playlist, Gary provided an amazing and eclectic taste of folk, through his lens.
(*please note: there may be a 'dead air' gap/glitch, we are working on fixing that)

Enjoy and see you on June 19,
    Val folkoasis
