On tonight's show I featured a few more summer festivals. All in early August, they take place in Kaslo,BC Comox,BC and Deming, WA. Road trip anyone?
I also had a lovely chat with Vancouver's own Kate Reid, who's celebrating the release of "Queer Across Canada" on June 8 at the Rogue Folk Club. katereid.net
It's a warm and breezy evening here in Point Grey (UBC Campus), hope it's lovely wherever you might be. Thanks for listening and please keep in touch!

Another rainy UBC evening, vastly improved by a cheery live session with Vancouver singer-songwriter Connor Roff. Some really good material from this 20 year old. One to watch..
Rounding out the two hours, the usual eclectic mix -- heavy on newer Canadian material, as always. And still kumbaya-free! Many thanks for your continuing support, and please continue to spread the good word.
    See you next week!

Tonight I was thrilled to welcome back to CiTR studios Matt Masters, who's visiting from Calgary. The boy can sure spin a tale, and he kept us entertained with stories and a few tunes. Gotta love his version of "Summer Wages" (nice tip of the hat to our town!) Accompanying him was Vancouver guitarist Craig McCaul. See mattmasters.com for upcoming Vancouver & Vancouver Island dates.
Besides musical tributes to important figures of the Canadian folk scene who passed recently,(sound engineer Si Garber and writer Greg Quill) we tipped our hat to Bob Dylan. He's still alive and kickin', turning 72 on May 24.

Hope you're still enjoying spring, and thanks for your support of this podcast!

    cheers, val

Welcome to another two hours of kumbaya-free folk music and interviews. This week I spoke to John Miller of acoustic trio Miller/Dermody/Johnson. They'll be at the Rogue Folk Club on May 17. Later in the show I was joined in CiTR studio by David Roy Parsons and James Testani. David has a show coming up May 24 at Cafe Deux Soleils. And he'll be a father soon - exciting!
Thanks again for your support, hope you enjoy this podcast.
Enjoy the long Victoria Day weekend and play safe!

    hugs, val

An eclectic two hours tonight, after a break last Wednesday. We celebrated the music of Bob Brozman and George Jones, who both passed away recently. We also celebrated the music of Willie Nelson, who's still alive and well, and now 80 years young. Summer festivals featured this evening were the Vancouver Folk Music Festival (official lineup announcement May 9th) and the Starbelly Jam Festival (Crawford Bay, BC). Both take place July 19-21, 2013.
As our recent heat wave confirms, summer is not far off! So get ready to enjoy some live music, whether indoors or out. Big hugs to all, and thanks for your ongoing support.

Yes, folks, a mixed bag this fine spring evening, all kumbaya-free of course. No interviews tonight, so we had time to feature tunes from our vinyl vault and from artists playing in Vancouver soon. We bid farewell to the recently departed Richie Havens, and celebrated upcoming summer festivals. Featured tonight were the Vancouver Island Music Fest (Comox, BC) and Pickathon (Happy Valley, OR). Summer doesn't feel so far away. Enjoy the Full Pink Moon tomorrow, and thanks for listening!

    cheers, val

Welcome to another extended edition of Folk Oasis (Sexy in VanCity not on air tonight). After a live interview with Kiran Ahluwalia, we welcomed Melanie Brulee and Dylan Groulx for a live session in CiTR studio. We also marked the recent passing of Nova Scotia's Rita MacNeil with tracks from some of her older vinyl releases. Which reminds me...

Happy Record Store Day / 4/20!

Thanks for listening, and keep on keepin' on!

Crazy spring weather day in Vancouver: started with torrential downpour and then the (strong) winds blew in some sunshine. Same kind wind also blew Vancouver singer-songwriters T.Nile and Melissa Bandura into the studio for a live session. They were joined by Chris Ronald and Glenn Chatten who joined in with chat about the "Takin' Turns at the Prophouse" series that takes place monthly in East Van. CiTR is also a sponsor of this series! Hope you enjoy listening to some fine local talent, and thanks again for your support. Take care and keep warm!

On this mild spring evening we started with some hot fiddling from Natalie MacMaster, and finished up with classic Nick Cave (sold out show in Vancouver April 6). In between, an eclectic assortment of new Canadian releases, a "geography" set, and vintage Richard Thompson vinyl (his birthday today). And... a lovely interview with Horsefly, BC residents Pharis & Jason Romero. They have a fantastic new album out and a show at the Rogue Folk Club April 5.
Please enjoy, and thanks as always for your support!

One week into spring and it's starting to feel that way, around Vancouver at least. And what a beautiful full moon tonight! Near the top of the show we chatted with Toronto performance artist + musician, Evalyn Parry. She mounts her bicycle-themed show "SPIN" at the Cultch starting April 9.
To end tonight's show we heard from Nick Cave's "The Boatman's Call" album. In between, all sorts of eclectic new goodies, as always. Enjoy the long weekend and take care!

    Happy Easter,
