Happy December! Tonight's interviews went longer than expected, but they were both so interesting, it was hard to "rein 'em in". Hope you find them interesting as well. Barney Bentall (yes, that one :) ) called to chat about his upcoming Grand Cariboo Opry event (lotsa fun + for very worthy cause). Following that was a lovely talk with Edmonton's Maria Dunn about her new CD and participation in The Christmas Carol Project.

On a more serious note, tonight's show ended with a song by Australian folk icon Judy Small, which commemorates the Montreal Massacre of 1989. Please take a moment on December 6 to remember those who have been victims of violence.

The bubbly and vivacious Lindsay May dropped by CiTR studios for a live session. Great songs, nice picking, beautiful voice and a great sense of humour! See her live at the Main on Main Nov. 30. We also had a live phone chat with San Francisco's Lauren O'Connell. Her debut Vancouver show is Dec. 1 at Little Mountain Gallery.
And I played a Mexican folk song, covered by The Tubes (speaking of San Francisco..) There you have it, another kumbaya-free two hours!

Tonight's show included a chat with Newfoundlander Amelia Curran, who ends her cross-country tour Nov. 22 in Vancouver. In the spirit of the season, I sprinkled in a few Thanksgiving songs tonight for my American friends. A lively show! After some classic Neil Young and Roger McGuinn we had 3 local singer-songwriters in the studio: Brett Wildeman, Francesca Belcourt and Ian Schram. Good times! They have an upcoming gig in East Vancouver at Prophouse, November 17. The last 30 min. or so of show consisted of music by groups nominated in the "Instrumental Group of Year" category of upcoming Canadian Folk Awards.
Doesn't get much more folky, or eclectic, than tonight's show -- enjoy!

As a nod and wave to our American friends, post-election, we started tonight's show with a classic Joni Mitchell tune from 1969. (she turned 69 today) Had a nice chat with Liam Titcomb, young Toronto singer-songwriter who's currently in BC opening some dates for Colin James. Also heard some nominees for upcoming Canadian Folk Music Awards. All in all, two eclectic kumbaya-free hours. Thanks for listening!

Thanks to CiTR's Saturday morning dj, Steve Edge, for filling in while I was in transit home from Las Vegas. I would have been getting a luggage search and questioning at the border (grr) right around the time this show started at 8pm.
