Live phone chats on tonight's show with above artists: Lenka calling in from Toronto, Jacquie calling from the road, near Vancouver. Local shows upcoming for both artists.
Lots of new releases featured tonight. I'm particularly fond of the new Chuck Prophet and Great Lake Swimmers releases.

Feb. 15 show will be pre-empted by a live broadcast from UBC School of Music, so load up on some old podcasts, woncha?

Many thanks for listening, and happy Feb. 14! xox

It's SOCAN* reporting week at CiTR, so I made sure to load up on local music tonight. Including a live session with Vancouver trio Willy Blizzard. Delightful chat and tunes ensued. Welcome to a 29-day version of February, and hope this leap year is a lucky one for all y'all.
    Many thanks for listening!

Keith William Miller, a local singer-songwriter, joined me for a lovely live session. Accompanying him on cello was Adam Mackenzie. In honour of Australia Day I spun some Paul Kelly for the "Vinyl Vault" feature. Finished up the night with some brand new Leonard Cohen. Long may he sing..
Keep warm and dry, and thanks as always for listening!

Tonight we featured some Gordon Lightfoot. Quite a bit, actually, so hope you enjoy it! (although we only hear him singing on one track) Check out the new book about Mr. Lightfoot by Dave Bidini if you get a chance.
Joining me live in the studio this FRIGID* winter evening was Lee Watson of Vancouver roots/bluegrass group The Breakmen. We chatted about their new CD and upcoming tour.
Later in the show we also had a quick phone chat -- from Australia(!) -- with Ash Grunwald, who's touring here in Feb.
Take care and keep warm, everyone!

*frigid is relative. We're currently much colder than Australia, yet somewhat warmer than say, Edmonton.

The subtitle about says it all! This week we featured several tracks from a Time-Life compilation of 60's folk. Nothing like some Bobbie Gentry to get the phone lines going! Many other new and new-ish releases featured tonight, hope you enjoyed what you heard! Thanks very much for listening, and feel free to get in touch. Hope your 2012 is going well so far!

As we roll the calendar over to 2012, tonight's show surveys a few music blogs for their fave roots/folk albums of last year. Thanks also for the listener feedback and suggestions! Here's hoping 2012 is full of peace, hope and prosperity for you all. As always, many thanks for listening!

Happy holidays! Many vintage tunes from the country end of the Oasis this beginning-of-solstice night (Bob Wills, Dale Watson, Buck Owens). Also musical tribute to two important roots music figures who passed away this week: Cesaria Evora and Warren Hellman (founder of Not Strictly Bluegrass Festival). As Dickens said: "It's at Christmas time that Want is most keenly felt", so please remember that this season. Warmest wishes to all, and see you in 2012!

Tonight we ease into the busy holiday season with a blend of new releases and holiday-themed tunes. Kick back with a large warm beverage (or cold if you're lucky enough to be somewhere tropical) and enjoy! Early in the show we had a chat with Vancouver musician Tim Readman. He has a new CD of UK folk covers called "Out of the Green" - CD release party in late January 2012.
2011 rolls to an end soon, so this is probably a good time to wish one and all a happy, safe, and non-dysfunctional holiday season! (well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad..)

We opened up the show with a couple of Christmas-themed songs because yes, it is already December. Eclectic selection of (mostly) new releases followed. Mixed in there was some vintage Jimmy Sturr polka (!) and Phil Ochs' first album in the Vinyl Vault. Take care during these early dark evenings, light a candle and curse if ya hafta..

    warm wintry hugs,

First off, big thanks to all who took the time and $ to donate to CiTR during last week's Fundrive! We're still accepting donations at citr.ca/donate. Featured in the Vinyl Vault tonight were two classic Joni Mitchell albums: Clouds and Blue. Live in the studio we had a great session with Norika Yue, aka From Birch to Yew. Only 18 years old and a finalist in next Tuesday's Shindig!
Enjoy the sun, fellow Vancouverites, and I hope the rest of y'all are keeping warm and dry.

    cheers,
