Summer's coming to a close, school's back in session - autumn is in the air! We welcomed good friend of Folk Oasis Bocephus King to the CiTR studios. Jamie (aka BK) brought his lovely daughter Stella along, so listen for her backing vocals and commentary. Bocephus King's long-awaited CD release party is Sept. 22 at Chai, here in Vancouver, so be there or...

UBC is a hustling, bustling place this week - welcome back, students! Tonight's show was heavy on local content and new releases. On 'Vinyl Vault' we heard several old tracks from Leo Kottke, who celebrates his birthday on 9/11.
Happy September everybody and enjoy the remainder of the summer. It's lookin' good out there!

Many new releases tonight, including a teaser track from the upcoming Tom Waits release. Mr. Waits was also the focus of tonight's "Vinyl Vault" feature. Had a nice phone chat with Ottawa singer-songwriter Amanda Rheaume, who will be at the Café Deux Soleils Sept. 7.
Starting to look busy here on UBC campus with students back in classes next week. Have a safe and happy Labo(u)r Day weekend, all!

Fun show tonight! We talked to Joelle May about an exciting new folk festival in Victoria: see folkwest.ca for details. Then we had Morgan in for a delightful chat and songs. Go see him at the Media Club Aug. 12 if you're able. Tonight's Vinyl Vault featured Dave Van Ronk and the recently departed Philippe Bruneau, master Québécois accordion player.
Enjoy the craziness that is August and go see some live music..

Because that's what's clogging up the streets and waterways of downtown Vancouver tonight and Aug. 6.. Lots of new releases from a wide variety of artists, as well as the latest installment of "Val's Vinyl Vault". Bonus (classic) vinyl to end the show -- and it's fireworks-related, too. Enjoy our late summer, Vancouver! The rest of ya, enjoy your summers too, and thanks so much for listening.
    cheers! val

Tonight we lightly scratched the surface of the many (many) musical offerings happening around our province this long weekend. Travel from Coombs to Comox, Kaslo to Rock Creek, and back to West Van -- all without the tolls, sunburn, or kids throwing up in the station wagon.. Take care out there and come back in one piece! As always, thanks for your support.

Wonderful session with Melbourne, Australia trio The Little Stevies. Great wit to go with the harmonies! Tune in to hear what "dink" means in Aussie-speak. Also chatted with Mission Folk Music Festival artistic director Francis Edwards. This great little fest takes place July 21-24 in the Fraser Valley. For those of you in parts of North America stuck in a heat wave: Keep cool! For those of you in SW British Columbia..here's hoping for some sun..
    Cheers and thanks for listening!

Wonderful live session with Redgy Blackout. Keep a close watch, these guys are ready to move up several levels. Check out their CD release party on July 15 at Cafe Deux Soleils. Also did phone interviews this evening with local ghazal/tabla wizard Cassius Khan, and with Edmonton singer-songwriter Ann Vriend. Vancouver Folk Music Festival is just around the corner, my friends! Enjoy the sunshine and thanks, as always, for your support.

Festival season is here, and tonight I chatted with 2 of the world/roots bands taking part in the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. At 8:40 I spoke with Natalie of Australia's Blue King Brown. At 9:30 I spoke with Aaron of Toronto's Jaffa Road. Both bands worth seeing live this Canada Day weekend if you're in town. We also paid musical tribute to the late Gaye Delorme, and finished tonight's show with a song written from the viewpoint of Paul Revere's horse.(!) Happy Canada Day (July 1) and Independence Day (July 4)! Thanks, as always, for listening.
