Tonight was our annual Fundrive show. Hey folks, we only do this once a year, so please, if you're listening to this via podcast, please throw a few $ in the pot at http://citr.ca/donate. Your dollars help us maintain the podcast archive, among other things. Please note that UBC has both Cdn + U.S. charity numbers, so your secure donation at above link is TAX DEDUCTIBLE. (nice, eh?)
Please enjoy our chat with CiTR alum and local Translink spokesman Ken Hardie, as well as the live session with Linda McRae and her husband James Whitmire.
    Thanks as always,
    Val

Tonight we had a special live session with Matt Masters, which became an extended live session just because we were having so much fun. Go see him at the Cariboo Opry this weekend (Nov. 19) at the Vogue Theatre if you're in town. We also did a live phone interview with Kate Weekes who has several island gigs coming up. Hope you enjoy this podcast, and thanks for listening!

    Keep warm and dry..

Another rainy day, clocks are rolled back and it's dark and dreary. Hope some of tonight's tunes cheer y'all up! Even if we did start with a Dan Mangan song about death.. :) We sampled a new Canadian folk songs compilation, which is available for free download: http://folksongsofcanadanow.com/
We also chatted with Petunia, of Petunia & the Vipers, and later in the show we checked in with Folk Thief. Both these bands have local gigs coming up, so if you're in our city, please come out and support them!
Take care and take a moment to remember on Nov. 11..

It's Day of the Dead (sugar skulls, anyone?) and we celebrated in suitable musical style. Tonight's "Vinyl Vault" feature: They Might Be Giants. 4 songs from late 80's LP's to get us in the mood for their Nov. 8 show here.
We also chatted by phone with April Verch (8:15) and Bonnie Ste-Croix (9:00) who are both playing in our city within the week.
Enjoy the rest of your week and thanks for listening!

Oktoberfest is over for another year so we thought we'd celebrate with music from two of Canada's Polka Kings, Gaby Haas and Walter Ostanek. Whee! We also enjoyed Hallowe'en comedy from Greg Behrendt and a few holiday-themed songs. And in the midst of all that thrill and horror, a mellow live set from Vancouver singer-songwriter Hemant Rao. Whew! Good times. Hope you enjoy this week's show, and thanks for listening!

Subtitle for this wk's show was meant to be "interview with the Gourds" but they were, alas, a no-show. In any case, we heard a couple tracks from their new CD, a polka "teaser" (more Oktoberfest music next week), several new releases, and Peter Tosh in the "Vinyl Vault" feature. Good times..
Thanks as always for listening. Enjoy the rest of your week!

No interviews or live session this evening, so let's call this show "Beau Dommage" because that was the subject of this week's Vinyl Vault feature. Classic 70's era folk-rock from 'la belle province', Québec. We also listened to new releases from Alanna Cherote, Jolie Holland, Gillian Welch, and wished Jane Siberry a very happy birthday..
Hope your autumn is going well, and please enjoy this podcast. Thanks for your support!

Sad news this week as cancer felled not only Steve Jobs but the two folk legends mentioned above. Their music lives on, of course, and we heard some of it on tonight's show. Also featured were great new CD's by blues singers from Ontario & New Brunswick respectively: Treasa Levasseur and Matt Andersen. Wowza.
Have a great Thanksgiving weekend, my fellow Canucks, and happy Columbus Day to my American listeners! I am, as always, very thankful for your support.

    Big hugs,

Back from a long weekend in Nevada! Still a little bit pooped...that's this week's excuse for engineering errors. ;-) Hope you enjoy tonight's eclecticity (is that a word?) which includes new Dan Mangan, Cloudsplitter, and Gram Parsons on our "Vinyl Vault" segment.
Cuddle up and keep warm, it's definitely sweater weather! (in Vancouver, anyway)

Cheers and thanks as always for tuning in,

Summer is rapidly coming to an end and the rains have already started -- in Vancouver, at least. Local singer-songwriter John Pippus joined us for a live session and sang tunes from his new album "Wrapped Up In The Blues". Check out his website http://www.johnpippus.com. Tonight's Vinyl Vault feature was "New Skin For The Old Ceremony" by birthday boy Leonard Cohen. Long may he sing!
I'm off to Vegas for the weekend, so luck be a lady tonight!!

    cheers, val
